  1. So ive recently had my main clutch basket nut and the crankshaft nut come loose and I've finally fixed that. Now ive noticed a slight ticking noise kinda like a piston slap it sounds like it's coming from the top end and when i took the head off theres a part of the head that is clean metal and no carbon so I assume its that, I couldn't feel alot of play in the bottom end bearings but I didn't take the cylinder off, i just pushed down on the piston, new head gasket is on its way. Should i run it how it is and what would i have to replace to get rid of the noise or should i sell it? I don't have a ton of money to dump into rebuilding this thing as im only 16. Thanks for the help!!
  2. I rode around a bit reving it out then made a final hard pass before i removed it.
  3. Does anyone know a company that has decent prices for custom expansion chambers? My kdx 400 expansion chamber is cracking and I’d like to get a new stock one made same as the oem just fresh metal. Any suggestions would help alot!!
  4. Does anybody know the exact dimension of the plastics on a 1985 kdx200 im gonna wrap mine
  5. I have a 1999 kx 250. I got a brand new tire and my chain is rubbing on it. The chain is good and tight and when I slide it over it can barely touch the tire but it still does. My chain slide is looks very worn. Would a new chain slide keep it from hitting the tire? The ridge left on the slide is not even taller than half your finger
  6. So here's the scenario I've been stuck with. Recently bought a KDX200 with a title but that's where the trouble is because the original owner is from Illinois and had the bike and died in September 2010, the family decided to sell the bike in October 2010 but they didn't transfer the title into their name so they sold it in his name after his death. The guy we bought it from had bought it from the original family in October 2010 and he didn't transfer the title into his name either. Then he moved from Illinois to Ohio and still didn't get the title transferred in his name nor transfer it to an Ohio title. It's not stolen because the Vin numbers and everything match up though. Anyone know a way to get the title transferred to Ohio in our name?
  7. How much would you pay for a super clean 2000 Kawasaki KDX220? Completely stock besides a lowering link. Has the original link. Very low hours. The guy thinks it is original tires and piston, but being 17 years old, I doubt the tires would not be dry rotted. He is the third owner. I also doubt that the piston wouldn't have grenaded. They were all older men that never got around to riding it, so it looks almost brand new. He is asking $2450 OBO. While it is pretty and looks very well taken care of, I think that is pretty high. KBB has an excellent one at only $1250. They are not made anymore and are getting harder to find, however. I have been searching for a while, and ones in a lot worse shape are going for around $1500 in Michigan. What do you think? Here is the ad: https://annarbor.craigslist.org/mcy/6205865594.html

  9. I have recently bought a kdx400. Its not the prettiest thing but it runs(with rough edges) recently its been running odd. When you kick it over it'll start with a slightly high sounding idle but its not screaming but then after riding for a bit it starts reving high enough to putt around in 3rd gear without touching the throttle. The cable and throttle tube are pretty sketchy but its not getting hung to my knowledge ive adjusted the idle down to barely nothing on both the throttle tube and the cable end of the carb. I backed the throttle stop all the way out while it was idling high and it did nothing. A few days prior to this it would start up and scream but i chuck that up to one of the idle nuts backing out and bringing the idle up. I do notice its leaking oil from a corner of the head gasket but I don't think that it would cause it to idle high like this. I can add pictures if they would help. Any help is appreciated!!!!
  10. HI, I HAVE A 94' KDX200. MOTOR HAS PROBLEMS - WHAT ENGINE FITS INTO THE FRAME ? OR WHAT MODS ARE NEEDED TO DO SO
  11. Looking at a JD Jetting kit for my 2005 KDX200. Does anyone have any experience with it? I'm not good when It comes to carbs so I thought this might make it easier. let me know your thoughts on it. here's the link to it https://www.jdjetting.com/xcart5/jdka03-kawasaki-kdx200-95-06-kdx220-97-05-.html?category_id=53

    ohio Tires

So, Im looking for a good rear tire to put on my KDX200. Ive thought about a hybrid tire but here in Ohio we have lots of mud and loose gravel. I was wondering what tire would be best for loose gravel filled hillclimbs but also works good in slimy type mud. but also works decent in hardpack. Main concern is the loose gravel hillclimbs, been thinking about a soft terrain tire as well such as a Metzeler MC360 Mid-Soft tire which has good reviews. anyone from Ohio have any good suggestions? not looking for a DOT tire though either.
  13. recently bought a 2005 Kawasaki KDX200 and I'm in need of radiator guards, skid plate, and other stuff to make It perfect for woods. the only radiator guards I can find are the DeVol ones, there are a bunch of mixed reviews so I was wondering if there was another option from other brands that would fit perfect. if anybody has any other recommendations for parts that would help it perform in woods let me know. Planning on getting an FMF gnarly woods pipe, FMF turbine core 2 silencer, Tusk D-Flex Handguards, moose universal pipe guard or P3 Carbon guard, Moose skid plate, and of course radiator guards. also looking at a rear mx style fender instead of the stock one as well as number plate instead of headlight. Also does anyone know what tires are really good for trails? something that grips well but maybe (if possible) break loose a little when I get on it because that's always really fun. Thanks for the input
  14. Heres the noise. Sounds like its coming from my top end..,
  15. I currently own a 2002 Kawasaki KDX 220R and I'm looking for a new bike. I've been looking at 04 - 08 Yamaha YZ 250s because I think they'd be better for me. Just tell me what bikes you'd recommend. I'm 14 years old, 6'0, 200 lbs, and have been riding for 9 years. And before you say my bike is perfectly fine, I will say this. I ride trails and the street and backyard tracks with my friends. My KDX lacks the power to do much on a track and it doesn't have the power I want for riding on the street either. Just wanted to get that out of the way. All recommendations are appreciated. I can buy anything below $3000.
  16. Did kawasaki use asbestos in brake shoes during 1980 on the kdx 250 and 400s?
  17. Does anyone know another bike that has the same bore x stroke as a Kdx400? The KDX is 80 x 78. Im looking for a piston that will fit in it fairly easily..👍
  18. Hey guys, just looking for some help on this overflowing PWK carburetor. I noticed while out riding about a month ago that the carb was leaking from the float bowl gasket area all around the carb. Finished riding that day and ordered a new gasket and once installed, the carb poured from one of the overflow hoses. I inspected the float and float needle and tested it to make sure it sealed and it did. The floats had a couple of nicks in them so I assumed the floats may have had gas in them causing them to leave the needle stuck open. Just replaced the floats with brand new ones and now the carb is overflowing from TWO of the overflow hoses, sometimes all three. Very typical of me working on a bike only making things worse haha. Does anyone know what could be causing this? Here’s a video showing what I mean https://youtu.be/aaKP1SO0reQ
  19. I’m looking at an ‘01 kdx200 for sale. The seller rebuilt the bottom and top end about 5 hours ago. He claims he was racing another bike when he held it full throttle for too long and seized the piston. It locked up only for a couple seconds, and it now rotates freely, albeit with low compression. He was able to get it to run for a little bit as well. I have no qualms over putting a new top end on it. My concern lies with the bottom end. I understand the bottom end on these bikes is quite solid, but how bad of a shape can the bottom end be in if the bike only locked up for a bit and will now run? It’s still a low hour crank. Would there be any way to check this without measuring the play in the rod? Thanks!
  20. Where should I start with the main and low speed jets for the 1986 KDX 200 at 1500 foot elevation (486 meters for all the youngsters) in Saskatoon Saskatchewan.
  21. This is the cylinder to my 1980 KDX 400 A2. I can't decide if its plated or sleeved, a magnet sticks to the inside of the bore but i saw someone say its eletrofusioned with molybdenum so it could be the coating that's magnetic.... it still runs with compression but i hope to sleeve it this winter with a steel or iron sleeve so i can bore it as needed.
  22. hi need help what seat covers from different bikes fit oN MY RM 125 2001
  23. So after listening to a tinging noise in my top end for a few days I pulled it apart finally the piston has alot of side to side play on the rod, the bottom end has a small amount of side to side and no up and down, is it normal for a ton of side to side play in the wrist pin area, its an air cooled 80' kdx 400. Also im not replacing the piston/rings because it had plenty of compression/lack of availability is there a break in period for the needle bearing/wrist pin?
  24. 2005 KDX200, transmission oil looked milky so we rebuilt the whole water pump (mechanical seal, bearing, whatever other seals are in there. oil is still milky when I drain it. through the sight glass window it looks normal until after a ride in which it looks black but then it drains as milky white color. What could be the source of this? I figure coolant is mixing with it somewhere.
  25. I own a 2002 KDX 220R. I'd like to see if I can make it street legal because it'd save me a lot of money. I live in California and since it's a 2002 model, I think I can do this. I just need to know what I'd need to make it street legal, aside from a spark arrestor.
