  1. Ok guys, i need some help here with the clutch issue where it won't disengage - to put it simply; start the bike in neutral, pull in the clutch lever, toe down to first gear, bike jumps forward and dies as if the clutch was never pulled in. Started to happen after a somewhat hard weekend of riding in the mountains (12/13 combined hours) but nothing out of the ordinary, a lot of up-shifting without the clutch and downshifting 2-3 times with out too. So far, I've replaced; all steel and fiber's (i pre-soaked them for 48hrs in ATF), installed them exactly as the previous ones were installed. pulled the basket off to get in behind it to check out the needle bearing and the rest of the shaft and it looked great. I also check the gears and the rest of the transmission and didn't see anything hanging up or broken teeth. Everything looked in order. There wasn't any noticeable grooves in the basket teeth while holding it at normal arms length away, i put a magnified glass up to it to see if there was small abrasions and there were some very minute ones but very hard to see New clutch cable and clutch lever. Rode for about an hour without the clutch to see if the clutch pack was stuck and the symptoms didn't change. I'm now at a complete loss of what the fix could possibly be, any ideas out there?
  2. I rode around a bit reving it out then made a final hard pass before i removed it.

    1980 kdx 400 HELP!!?

So ive recently had my main clutch basket nut and the crankshaft nut come loose and I've finally fixed that. Now ive noticed a slight ticking noise kinda like a piston slap it sounds like it's coming from the top end and when i took the head off theres a part of the head that is clean metal and no carbon so I assume its that, I couldn't feel alot of play in the bottom end bearings but I didn't take the cylinder off, i just pushed down on the piston, new head gasket is on its way. Should i run it how it is and what would i have to replace to get rid of the noise or should i sell it? I don't have a ton of money to dump into rebuilding this thing as im only 16. Thanks for the help!!
  5. hi need help what seat covers from different bikes fit oN MY RM 125 2001
  6. This is the cylinder to my 1980 KDX 400 A2. I can't decide if its plated or sleeved, a magnet sticks to the inside of the bore but i saw someone say its eletrofusioned with molybdenum so it could be the coating that's magnetic.... it still runs with compression but i hope to sleeve it this winter with a steel or iron sleeve so i can bore it as needed.

Side to side play on a piston?

So after listening to a tinging noise in my top end for a few days I pulled it apart finally the piston has alot of side to side play on the rod, the bottom end has a small amount of side to side and no up and down, is it normal for a ton of side to side play in the wrist pin area, its an air cooled 80' kdx 400. Also im not replacing the piston/rings because it had plenty of compression/lack of availability is there a break in period for the needle bearing/wrist pin?

    Street Legal KDX

I own a 2002 KDX 220R. I'd like to see if I can make it street legal because it'd save me a lot of money. I live in California and since it's a 2002 model, I think I can do this. I just need to know what I'd need to make it street legal, aside from a spark arrestor.

1990 KDX 200 Gearbox Oil Issues

I recently acquired a 1990 KDX200. The bike runs reasonably well for it's age. The first ride over 30 min the gearbox oil started overflowing into the airbox (overflow hose is routed to airbox). The oil that overflowed and the oil in the gearbox are an odd shade of dark forest green. The oil appeared to be overfilled slightly which explains the overflow. What I don't understand is the weird dark blueish greenish gray color of the oil. I believe the PO used motul 10w40 ester gearbox oil because he gave me a half used gallon. I use Motul 710 2t oil which is blue, and run green coolant in the radiator. I drained the gearbox oil and there was a nice little clump of dark gray metalic paste on the magnetic drain plug, which should explain the gray hue. What I do not understand is the greenish blue hue. Anyone know what in the heck is going on with this old horse? The pic shows a sample of my drained oil. When held up to the light it turns more of a green color. Oil still feels slick as can be.
  10. I am in the middle of a fork swap, the bike is an 04 kdx 200 and new forks are off a 2006 kxf 250. To maintain the geometry i am lowering the kx forks 1"by installing spacers and will also add new spring perch grooves offset 1" from existing to prevent increasing pre-load. I am also replacing the existing .46 springs with new .42 springs.(single track, 39 year old, B/C rider). I have pulled apart the forks and this is the existing Compression(base) valve shim stack: 30x.10(12) 22x.15 30x.10 29x.10 28x.10 27x.10 26x.10 25x.10 24x.10 23x.10 22x.10 21x.10 21x.10 20x.10 19x.30 19x.30 19x.30 19x.30 22x.30 My plan is to remove 6 of the 30x.10 Lo-Speed shims from the Compression(base) valve shim stack. I will leave the rebound stack alone. But I defiantly open to suggestions or opinions. I am doing this to improve the handling of the bike but also as a chance to learn about suspension so feel free to lecture/rant/ridicule at will.

    KDX Transmission problems

I had planned on riding my 2002 Kawasaki KDX 220R today and I got about 3 miles out before I could hear the gears in my transmission start grinding. I made sure the oil level was properly filled and I always use the clutch to shift so I have no idea what's wrong with it. I've had enough issues with the bike that after this I'm going to sell it. I should also mention that when I started pushing it back home in neutral the gears would occasionally grind until I would shift it into 1st gear and back.
  12. Heres the noise. Sounds like its coming from my top end..,
  13. I currently own a 2002 Kawasaki KDX 220R and I'm looking for a new bike. I've been looking at 04 - 08 Yamaha YZ 250s because I think they'd be better for me. Just tell me what bikes you'd recommend. I'm 14 years old, 6'0, 200 lbs, and have been riding for 9 years. And before you say my bike is perfectly fine, I will say this. I ride trails and the street and backyard tracks with my friends. My KDX lacks the power to do much on a track and it doesn't have the power I want for riding on the street either. Just wanted to get that out of the way. All recommendations are appreciated. I can buy anything below $3000.

    Radiator Guards KDX200

recently bought a 2005 Kawasaki KDX200 and I'm in need of radiator guards, skid plate, and other stuff to make It perfect for woods. the only radiator guards I can find are the DeVol ones, there are a bunch of mixed reviews so I was wondering if there was another option from other brands that would fit perfect. if anybody has any other recommendations for parts that would help it perform in woods let me know. Planning on getting an FMF gnarly woods pipe, FMF turbine core 2 silencer, Tusk D-Flex Handguards, moose universal pipe guard or P3 Carbon guard, Moose skid plate, and of course radiator guards. also looking at a rear mx style fender instead of the stock one as well as number plate instead of headlight. Also does anyone know what tires are really good for trails? something that grips well but maybe (if possible) break loose a little when I get on it because that's always really fun. Thanks for the input

    ohio Tires

So, Im looking for a good rear tire to put on my KDX200. Ive thought about a hybrid tire but here in Ohio we have lots of mud and loose gravel. I was wondering what tire would be best for loose gravel filled hillclimbs but also works good in slimy type mud. but also works decent in hardpack. Main concern is the loose gravel hillclimbs, been thinking about a soft terrain tire as well such as a Metzeler MC360 Mid-Soft tire which has good reviews. anyone from Ohio have any good suggestions? not looking for a DOT tire though either.

    Title Troubles

So here's the scenario I've been stuck with. Recently bought a KDX200 with a title but that's where the trouble is because the original owner is from Illinois and had the bike and died in September 2010, the family decided to sell the bike in October 2010 but they didn't transfer the title into their name so they sold it in his name after his death. The guy we bought it from had bought it from the original family in October 2010 and he didn't transfer the title into his name either. Then he moved from Illinois to Ohio and still didn't get the title transferred in his name nor transfer it to an Ohio title. It's not stolen because the Vin numbers and everything match up though. Anyone know a way to get the title transferred to Ohio in our name?

    Chain rubbing tire

I have a 1999 kx 250. I got a brand new tire and my chain is rubbing on it. The chain is good and tight and when I slide it over it can barely touch the tire but it still does. My chain slide is looks very worn. Would a new chain slide keep it from hitting the tire? The ridge left on the slide is not even taller than half your finger

    Value of 2000 KDX220?

How much would you pay for a super clean 2000 Kawasaki KDX220? Completely stock besides a lowering link. Has the original link. Very low hours. The guy thinks it is original tires and piston, but being 17 years old, I doubt the tires would not be dry rotted. He is the third owner. I also doubt that the piston wouldn't have grenaded. They were all older men that never got around to riding it, so it looks almost brand new. He is asking $2450 OBO. While it is pretty and looks very well taken care of, I think that is pretty high. KBB has an excellent one at only $1250. They are not made anymore and are getting harder to find, however. I have been searching for a while, and ones in a lot worse shape are going for around $1500 in Michigan. What do you think? Here is the ad: https://annarbor.craigslist.org/mcy/6205865594.html

    So i bought a 1980 kdx400...

I have recently bought a kdx400. Its not the prettiest thing but it runs(with rough edges) recently its been running odd. When you kick it over it'll start with a slightly high sounding idle but its not screaming but then after riding for a bit it starts reving high enough to putt around in 3rd gear without touching the throttle. The cable and throttle tube are pretty sketchy but its not getting hung to my knowledge ive adjusted the idle down to barely nothing on both the throttle tube and the cable end of the carb. I backed the throttle stop all the way out while it was idling high and it did nothing. A few days prior to this it would start up and scream but i chuck that up to one of the idle nuts backing out and bringing the idle up. I do notice its leaking oil from a corner of the head gasket but I don't think that it would cause it to idle high like this. I can add pictures if they would help. Any help is appreciated!!!!
