I am buying my first 2 stroke 🙂 and have decided on a kawasaki kdx 220, Mainly because a newer bike isnt in my budget (desperately wanted a ktm 200) but this bike works great for my riding style. There are 2 in my area but I'm not sure what would be best for me to go for, thats where I need help. NOTE:These are Canadian prices and theres no way I can get one of these bikes for dirt cheap like in the USA Bike 1: 2001 Fully rebuilt with new top end, sprockets and chain. looks in really good shape and comes with full parts bike but needs a new back rim for 2700$ firm Bike 2: 2004 All original, Full FMF Exhaust(dinged up quite a bit), Has street legal title Plastics are very rough and would likely need a rebuild shortly for 2700$ negotiable I honestly feel the 2001 is a better deal but I need an expert opinion 🙂 since the last kawi I owned was a klx125 years ago.
Made a little video of me riding some new trails we discovered, I had no clue where I was going. But I found out a way to ride a pretty fun loop to practice for woods races on. Check the video out, feedback is appreciated
DISCRIPTION - Hi everyone right now I have an 04 CRF250X. I got it to grow into and has been working pretty fine for the logging road trails I have been riding. Recently I did a group ride on some much more enuro trails and saw a majority of two strokes. After doing some research the feeling I get is that for enduro 4 strokes or heavier, slower, more expensive, and are just a ticking time bomb before you have to drop 1500 to rebuild them they really have no redeeming qualities compared to the two strokes ( witch makes me very sad because that is what a have grown uo around). So I was thinking about trying to find somthing like a KDX220R for the tight woods and steep slippery climbs of those enuro trails. Or do some more modifications and after market parts to the 4 stroke that I payed 2200 for. QUESTION- So basically what I'm asking is should I just stick with the 4 stroke and throw some more mony at it or look for a KDX220R. Is the CRF250X a fine bike for enduro and I just need to ride or is really the bike that I should change up? If stick with the CRF what mods would be best? THANKS!
Here's my delima I just purchased a 98 KDX 220 and it's an awesome bike I'm the 3rd owner of the bike the guy i got it from was a younger guy and he has only had the bike for a few months after getting it from an older guy who bought it new. The bike runs great has great compression and everything but I still planned on running a top end on the bike before I started ripping it for piece of mind. When I pulled the exhaust pipe I noticed light vertical scratches on the cylinder I tried taking the best pictures I could get of it and posted them. I then proceeded to pull the head and check from the top side and found more towards the top of the cylinder which also has a pretty heavy glaze but isn't flaking from what I can tell. I have a new piston, gasket, and bearing top end kit on the way. My question is has anyone else ran a cylinder like this? I know replating is my best option as I can't hone this cylinder but the funds are a bit tight right now any opinions or advice here? What is my worst possible out come. A few of the scratches can barely be felt with finger nail.
