  1. Hey guys/girls, I'm looking at buying a new KTM and don't want to spend the money without riding one first. I'm on the fence between the 250 and 300xc models. I race c class in local hare scrambles and will be racing my first GNCC (Camp Coker) in a few weeks (I'm pretty slow btw). I love casual trail riding as well. My current bike is an 09 200xc. My riding buddy has a 2020 300 husky and It is an absolute dream to ride, but at 170lbs wet I'm not sure I wouldn't be just as happy with a 250 and have less felt weight in the single tracks. I'm always looking for new people to ride with and would enjoy meeting up with someone at a local compound. We have a pretty awesome private 6mile loop in Sumter, SC also. Its tough to spend 10k on something without giving it a test ride... Hit me up if anyone's interested, KTM or not!!
  2. OK here goes... Picked up an 04 200 EXC few months back, needed some work to say the least, wont go into detail of all the things i've fixed on the bike just the current and most present issue I cant seem to fix... it is smoking IE blue smoke/lots of splooge to the point that at the end of a few hour's ride, it's out the tail pipe, running down the back and dripping onto the swing arm/rear break caliper and blue smoking quite a bit. When I first got it, it smoked more and smelled like shit. So first things first went to the carb, I live on the Oregon coast (elevation/temp reference) it's old dirty/stained but inside looks good, came with jetting pilot-45, main-178 needle: no idea what brand guessing stock in the 3rd clip, adjusted the float height due to it leaking gas when bike was upright no tilt with the gas on, Bought JD jet kit and running pilot-45, Main-185 and Needle is blue 3rd clip (JD's recommend specs for my bike @ my attitude). I have also replaced my Inner crankcase seal twice (First time I thought I messed up the O-ring so redid to make sure). I've rebuilt the top end/new piston (same thing) cleaned the PV, NOTE HERE that the PV has some issues, it seems to work fine but the screw that goes on top of the cylinder, down into the PV/flap would not come out preventing me from removing the flap to clean it, however it move's/ function's correctly, and has minimum clearance on both sides. One of the PV cover bolts that also works at the exhaust spring holder, was over torqued at some point (impact driver prob), or a result in a hard impact, the hole the bolt goes into is flailed/jared open a bit, not bad, not in the way of any function/ PV Gearing/hinge, it is not needed for that area to be air tight as their is also a breather that goes out of the PV so will not result in an "air leak" or loss in Top end PSI.... anyway... it's still smoking.... quite a bit.. now the bike itself rides fine I feel, the carb does puke gas when tilted over slightly/ hard to start (kick start) after flooded (like all bikes tho) I don't have any stalling/low idle issues outside of user error on clutch control. Honestly outside of it smoking as much as it does I would think nothing is wrong with it.. I have also tried raising the needle Clip to 2nd clip and it changed nothing at all, not even feel of the bike/response and have a new Spark plug I have yet to put on the bike. I have also "compromised" the crankcase Gasket (new one in the mail) while I was putting the Crankcase back on but that should do nothing with the exhaust just a little gear oil leak not relevant but throwing it out there. So I am at a loss... I've been toying with the idea of getting a Lectron carb... However... would hate to drop $400~$500 and the issue still persist, if it's a jetting/carb/float issue that would fix it and improve MPH/fuel consumption Or something with the PV? but I don't see the PV causing that much smoke/sploogee... I've ridden the bike normally/hard and nothing's happened but I don't want to keep pushing it and possibly clip the bike. Any ideas? "Oh help me 2 stroke community you're my only hope"
  3. Hey all, im shopping for my first two stroke. I’m a woods rider and I’ve found what looks like a great deal on an 250 sx. Changes in bike thus far are lower gearing on chain and softer spring on shock, bark busters and handlebar risers. I will certainly need an xc gas tank and probably work on forks. Anything else I can/should do to make this single track worthy?
  4. I came on to see if anyone is having handling issues. I cannot seem to figure out what is going on but since I have owned this bike I have problems controlling the thing. it's been a couple of years. I let a buddy ride it and when he handed it back he was shocked i was even riding it the way it is. I recently bought a 150Xc for my son and it feels so stable compared to mine. how is that possible? I thought maybe it was the rubber handle bar mounts as I was getting almost a quarter inch of wiggle on the bars. I replaced them 2 times. that didn't help. I have tried various PSI in the forks. tire pressure is fine. right now i am at 135psi and 15 15 on the rebound and dampening. i weigh 190. i have forks at the second line at the top. the bike seems to either ping off stuff or is jerky or something. I feel like I have no flow and am constantly trying to make corrections. it is tiresome.. this isn't like reacting to obstacles but a genuine problem i am having with controlling the bike on single track. Sometimes it's like I am turning to much too soon and have to bring it back and other times i am not turning enough. i am 50 years old 190lbs and am seriously starting to think it is my &%$#@!ing body getting weak or something. when it is not a turning issue and i am in a technical uphill obstacle situation however, my riding has greatly improved. so, i don't think this is the case. something is going on and it is driving me &%$#@!ing nuts, because i am developing a shitty ride style because of it.. I had a minor bend in the front rotor that i replaced because i thought maybe this was setting it off while braking but that didn't help me. so, i am now either selling the &%$#@!er or thinking about sending forks off to get setup as the guy i bought it from had them done and although we are about the same size i don't know what was done to them. Just seeing if anyone has had any problems or heard about other folks having issues. i love the bikes power and have modded the starter so it fires up quick and would rather not deal with selling and buying. The stability of my sons 150 is what made me think about getting rid of it as it has seems funky since i got it and I ain't the only one who thinks that it is awkward to control. hope this finds everyone doing well and you are getting in a lot of seat time.
  5. Hi guys, probably a stupid question here, but I figure you can never be too safe. I have some Motorex 15w-50 from my 2010 KTM 250 XC (which I sold) and I was wondering if it would be okay to run in my 2014 KTM 350 XC-F which calls for Motorex 10w-50? What would be the side effects of running a 15w-50 instead of a 10w-50? Also, if you have any suggestions of good oil to run, please feel free to recommend it and give your reasons why. Thanks guys. (Attached is my 350)
  6. Ladies and gentlemen, if you could shed some quick light on this topic and give some quick help that would be great. My dear ole dad and I are planning a trip out to Moab Utah around late June, definitely the hot season. My father has a 2013 ktm 250 xc, great bike, runs perfectly with no problems. However, if you take a quick look at the hour counter, it reads 197😬. I told my dad that it should be in his best interest to at least do a top end rebuild on his bike before we take a couple runs on the 100 mile trail, so he doesn’t end up walking half of it. He is convinced that since the bike is still running well, and it is not showing any issues, “it would be pointless to spend money on a rebuild kit”. Despite my best efforts to explain that rings will simply wear out over time and even a well kept lightly ridden bike should be rebuilt every 80 or 100 hours or so, I just can’t seem to convince him. If any of you could give a quick in depth explanation on why he shouldn’t even think about running this risk through the middle of the desert, that would be great. Thank you
  7. As the title states I'm currently running a 2014 Husky FE450 .. brilliant bike has REGO for the road and comes with set of motard wheels+ dirt wheels oversize brakes + Rekluse clutch along with many enduro parts FC muffler etc so awesome 4st ... been awesome having a two in one kind of bike but as we know that can also mean its not perfect at either >> so yet again after many harder enduro rides over the summer ..I'm yearning for the new steed >>well prob 2x ... one likely to be a KTM duke ,, the other a pure enduro beast weight is my main issue with the 2014 FE450 >> 249lbs dry great 90% of the time ... but during some of the harder enduro sections in the mountains events locally it can really wear you out and if you for any reason have an issue the weight just compounds those issues ...usually this can see me making mistakes and ending rolling down hills then restarting in some horrible locations >>Rekluse auto clutch has been brilliant in helping I'm a converted ... pretty experience off-road-enduro rider 30yrs+ .. (along with near on 20x different dirt bikes over those years) 175lbs -6ft tall - fast -tech enduro focus mate had a 18 KTM 350exc thats 17lbs+ lighter ...I'm certainly tempted to checkout out 2017++ 350 .. FX,XCF,EXC,FE ... My last light enduro bike was an enduronlize 97 RM250 .... loved the 2ST fun factor so very light great suspension bad too low geared .... so also tempted to go down the 2017+ KTM 250xc / exc or HUSKY TE250 ...Gasgas (not a fan of the KTM 300exc I rode ..I like some top-end in my 2st + lighter feel ). So yes you can see I'm KTM owned bikes focused ..got a friend thats a KTM mechanic + I like the higher tech parts they come stock with ... I need not only lighter weight but decent fuel range ...also decent top speed 70mph + so 6spd
  8. I recently picked up a 2017 KTM 250 xc with low hours and the jetting was off I got it way closer and it feels much better now. I just need to refine it a little more yet and am wondering if anyone has any specs running between sea level and 1000 ft usually 10-30 degrees celsius. (50- 90f ish) I know a lot of people say just go to the Keihin from JD Jettint but it’s very expensive compared to ordering 4 or 5 jets lol. (i know it says in the KTM TPI/TBI category but it’s the only option it gave me)
  9. Hello. I buy new bike KTM exc 250 TPI 2020. And I do max speed is 110 km/h. I Think that is to slow. Hay I can make it faster?
  10. I am looking to upgrade bikes but don’t can’t decide between a 125 or 250 4 stroke. I currently have an 85 big wheel and it’s getting too small. I don’t have an issue with power and I’ve been told that power doesn’t matter so much but it’s more if the bike is too heavy. I mainly do trail/track riding probably once a month. I’m around 5”9 and around 60kg. Just looking for any advice? Thanks
  11. Just wanted to share a video I saw recently of some guys riding their two strokes. Videos like this help me get through the winter haha!
  12. I weigh 130 lbs and I currently have a 2017 honda 450R. The bike is too heavy and a little too much power for me. I am stuck deciding between a ktm 150 sx or 250 sx. I ride a lot of desert, freeride, and a bit of track. Which bike should I get?
  13. Hi, I recently bought a 2009 KTM 250 XC-F. Everything is great about it, although I am having a minor issue with the clutch. So I start up the bike, let it idle for a minute or so to get everything up to temperature, pull and hold in the clutch...shift into first...and...*jolt forward*...*stall* I have peeked inside the oil cap and the clutch operates fine (obviously when the bike isn't running). So I then have to start up the bike again and let it idle longer. I have found that it takes almost 2-3 minutes, sometimes i give it a 1/4 throttle to get things going faster. After enough time I shift into first, still get a little jolt, but engine continues to run like the clutch finally separated from the plate. But after this everything is flawless, clutch operates perfect. It's just with a cold engine, the clutch doesn't work. Is this normal and I have just never been told this?? I find it annoying how I have to sit there for 3 minutes or so just letting the engine idle before the bike can even move. Thanks for any info, Dean
  14. I have a chance to buy a 2002 ktm 250 sx for $2000 and was wondering if this would be a good woods bike?
  15. Hi, I recently rebuilt the top end, 3hours so far. I'm getting paranoid about all noises now! Does this sound normal, or does it sound like piston slap, or some bearing issue? Thanks in advance! Bike is a 2014 KTM 300 XC. https://youtube.com/shorts/OF5pS1IG9uc?feature=share
  16. The owners manual says to run 15W-50 but I have seen that a lot of people run 10W-40 for transmission oil in a ktm 2 stroke. Which is better
  17. I just bought a ktm 250 sx and haven't been on a 2 stroke in a while and am wondering what is the best engine oil, transmission oil, and best mix ratio for it.
  18. At the moment I’m in an 85 big wheel and can easily flat foot both feet. I would prefer a 125 but not many are available, whereas 250F’s on the other side are looking closer to my price/availability range than 125s. My only hold back in a 250 is would it be too heavy? I weigh approx 130 lbs (60kgs) and am around 5’9. Would I also be better if adjusting the shock and forks on my 85 and stick with that for longer. Any help would be appreciated
