    KTM 300 XCW Trouble shooting

My 2010 KTM 300 XCW started behaving a few rides ago and I have been unable to locate the problem so if anyone could help me out I would be appreciative. So basically the "Mid Range" just disappeared. At low RPM and High RPM the bike is operating just like it use to. However in the middle zone the Power Doesn't seem to be getting transferred to the wheel. The first time I noticed this issue a hard rev seemed to restore it back to normal operating. After ride that the middle range has never returned. There were no changes on anything else in the bike. The spark plug checks out.

    Plastic Eating Subframe

Curious if anyone is having the same issue on their subframe. This is on a 300 with less than 10 hours on it. I was in the process of installing all new plastic. The side panels/airbox on this 16' is all one piece. The aluminum is getting worn away on both sides where the plastic touches the subframe. I am assume they used the softest lightest aluminum for weight, however I'm alarmed at how deep these grooves are with only a few hours on the bike. Also it looks like I will need to transfer over everything to the new plastic and even drill a hole for the rubber kickstand holder since there isn't one drilled on this new Acerbis kit. Anyone with experience with this? I see the rivets for the airbox holder are available along with all the other needed parts, but I'm curious how to install them with a rivet gun. My guess is it's going to be hard to get the rivet installed with the plastic in the way. Any help is greatly appreciated.
  3. I just bought an older (1997) KTM 300 and I'm pretty sure it's an EXE but it could be an MXC (what's the difference?). It starts and I've ridden it around a bean field for 200 yds and it seems ok, but not set up for a heavier rider (maybe). I'm guessing the bike is pretty much stock, but since these have been around so long what are the standard mods/improvements? 1. Is there a ktm VIN look up so I can figure out what model and year it is for sure? 2. I'm pretty sure I'll need to get the correct springs for the fork and possibly the rear shock. It looks like race tech has a calculator making it pretty easy. They are probably good to talk to about set up in general. However, in my reading about these bikes, many say the fork is an USD (upside down) fork and mine is a conventional (though now USD is conventional). Anyone know what fork is supposed to be on the 97 300? It will probably help when I talk to race tech so I'm getting the right parts 3. The fuel tank looks like a large capacity/aftermarket, but most of the bikes I see for sale have the same tank. The tank blocks access to the choke knob which I'd expect with some aftermarket parts. However, is this just how these bike were? 4. Did the older 2 strokes ever come with an estart (asking for an even older friend ;-) 5. The motor starts pretty easy and is pretty strong, but it seems geared to go run pretty high speed. Is this typical? thanks
  4. Here is my year end video folks I hope you all enjoy it was a ton of work to make, a blend of motorcycles and scenery! Please share it if its worthy happy new year!
  5. Recently, I put my carb back on my bike after adjusting the float and jets and I'm having some problems. I couldn't get the bike started for the life of me and after a little while, it started pouring gas out of the vent hoses. Can someone diagnose my situation?

  7. I’ve narrowed my search for a woods bike down to these three bikes. I have about $4,000 to spend, which one of these bikes will last me the longest? Things to note, I’m mechanically retarded, outside of oil changes, spark plugs, air/oil filter… I’m &%$#@!ed or will be going to the dealership. I’m tall, 6’3 (200lbs) so a higher seat height is desired. I live in Colorado Springs and will be primarily riding Rampart Range. Which of these three bikes will I have the best experience with? Bikes I can afford seem to be in the 2000-2010 era.
  8. Hey guys, this is my first two stroke and im sure a lot of you have more knowledge on this i pulled my plug on my 2018 300, how does it look? Im running a keihin carb this is after about 10 hours just curious how it looks?
  9. Any specific tips and tricks jetting the new 38mm Mikuni on the 300s? There is another thread here about 300 jetting but its pretty confusing talking about the older Keihin models in the same thread, since they are pretty different. I've got about 20+ hours on my 300 XCW (2017) and the carb feels mostly OK, maybe a bit rich. I expect its like all two-strokes, a bit rich from the factory to prevent accidental squeaks during break-in. My dealer sent out an email saying that a lot of their customers are not happy with the as-delivered jetting, and that they are working up recommendations 'shortly'. Of course, here in the East, riding season is quickly ending with hunting season and then winter. My only jetting related solid complaint is that the bike is hard to start the first time of a day (or week) either with the kickstarter or the magic button. Once its has fired, it restarts instantly, but it does not want to wake up.
