I recently purchased a 2010 KX250F from a friend of mine that had been sitting in his garage for about 5 years. The bike seemed to be in decent shape and the price was right so i picked it up. I went through most of the bike before riding it (air filter, oil, greased all the bearings, adjusted suspension, changed all the fluids, etc) The valves sounded a bit loose so i decided to have a "Buddy of mine" adjust the valves. I get the bike back, go for a ride and the cam chain tensioner falls out while i was riding, luckily i caught it very soon after it happened and it never jumped timing. I put the tensioner back in and continue to ride the rest of the day. as the day goes on the valves sound much looser than they were originally before the adjustment was done, I decided to call it a day and tear the bike down myself. I shim the loose valves and button the bike back up, but now the thing sounds god awful. Straight up clacking coming from the right side of the top end. Since then ive probably had the bike apart and back together 4 or 5 times trying to figure out the problem. Its not the auto decompression valve, every valve is in spec, timing is solid, and the cam chain tensioner is working fine. I'm stumped. anyone have any thoughts?

Though I'd ask the question on here since I couldn't find what I was looking for online, just bought a 2011 KX250F bike is in really good shape and the valves were just done, got paper work, bikes runs great at idle and at every speed but if you just cruising at a low speed it's runs pretty rough. Also pops and backfires some times after letting of the gas after WOT. Not sure how these EFI bikes are suppose to run since this is my first. Any help would be appreciated thanks!

Hello all, UPDATED: I believe I found out what is suppose to be mounted in the front frame bracket area. It looks like the Vehicle-down Sensor gets mounted on a bracket that is secured to the the area that I am originally asking. If that is the case, I believe I am missing the mounting bracket (OEM P/N: 11055-1541) that the vehicle-down sensor is secured to, then what gets mounted to this bracket (picture of where the current vehicle-down sensor is mounted, pic with my hand, third pic). I am in the process of putting my 2014 kx250f back together from an engine removal, frame cleaning, etc process and this is the furthest I have taken a bike (electronics removed, etc). Now as I am putting it back together, I am confused on what gets mounted to the front frame bracket in the pics below. It is the smaller alum bracket that is welded the front part of the frame (2 smaller holes, in vertical alignment). I looked throughout the service manual and I am at a loss. Thanks in advance!

I recently tore my 2006 kx250f down to replace a broken case. Its all back together and everything works properly except the clutch. Its a full Hinson clutch basket, hub, plates etc. Plates are in great shape, basket has no notches nor does the hub. When I pull the clutch lever in the Pressure plate lifts but it takes the basket with it. Then when you let go it gets stuck like that and you have to push the whole assembly down by hand. Then pull the lever and it does it all over again. I noticed the plates were a little hard to pull apart but i think that's just from the oil. I have no clue whats going on. Everything seems to be put together right but i can't figure it out. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hey guys. Been looking around like crazy for an answer to my question before starting a new topic but have had no luck. I bought an 05 rmz250 in pieces and after seeing how crappy everything is ive decided to build the engine and use as many parts of the bike as possible to build an 06-08 style kx250f out of it. Used to have 2 07 kx250fs and I LOVED them and the aluminum frames are cheap on eBay. My question is what are the fork tube diameters for the 06-08 and what is the distance between the triple clamps top to bottom? Just trying to figure out if my kyb's will fit in the triple clamps for the showas on the 2nd gens. Appreciate any info. Thanks!

So I decided I should check my valve clearances last night. Season here is just starting and I wanted to make sure I was good. I need a new set of feelers because mine go from .15mm to .20 mm so I can't really get an accurate measurement. This is new to me but, I have read tons and watched many videos. I do need to re shim an intake valve as I could get a .20mm under it My question is when I am shimming where do I want to be? This is something I couldn’t find a definitive answer on. Do I want to be in the middle of spec? Example specs are .1 to .15 mm so do I want to be at say .13mm. I am a little nervous about it even know I think it really isn’t that hard. But it is my first time. Any tricks and tips would be appreciated. Thanks

I am new to the forums and did not see anywhere on the page that has a list of used parts by forum members. I apologize if I am posting in the wrong place. As the title says, I am looking for a cylinder head. Can anyone point me in the right direction on where to find one? Mine dropped a valve. Its for a 2005 KX250F

Hey guys, I just recently bought a 2004 kx250f but am looking to swap out some of the parts to update it. Little stuff for now like seat cover, chain, hand grips, levers, caps etc. Someone in my area is selling some stuff from a 2003 kx250, was wondering if anyone knew if those parts would be interchangeable between the 2 and 4 stroke models? Or if other years of my bike parts would work or not. Any help would be appreciated. Kristi

Am I too small for a 250 4 stroke? What should i buy?

Hi Guys, wanted to begin riding dirt bikes but im not sure what to buy? Im 165 pounds 5"6 and have only rode quads before im not sure what dirtbike to buy. I was in between getting a crf150r or a 250 4 stroke bike i was told that 250 4 strokes are mostly just for the track and that they are difficult to maintain and valves could give me problems. i want to use them mainly for the woods but once in a while hit some jumps. If you guys could give me some recommendations on what to buy that would be great. -
I picked up an 09 kx250f as a winter project and it had a chewed up head, and is unrepairable. I was online and found a 2011 kx250f head and was wondering if it would fit. Thanks.

Hey I'm 14 and am looking to buy a new quad/bike. I am selling my yz85 currently I'll tell you what bikes I have owned/ rode crf50-xr80-yz144-yz85 kfx50-yamaha blaster-raptor80 and I've riden Polaris 500's and they seem pretty sweet . The riding near my house is, a bog, single track, power lines, mud and sand. I feel like a atv would be better for mud and the rooty trails but I love the 75+ mph speed from bike and being able to jump/throw them around. Some bikes/ quad I've been looking at, keep in mind I have about 1500-2000 crf250x all brand 250f's raptor 700 400ex 300ex another blaster? Please help me with suggestions. I'm 120 and 5'5 and I feel comfortable on a 250f I've riden a few. Thanks

Just before winter I purchased a used 2012 KX250F (first bike, no prior experience). It has been difficult to start from day one, but got worse after sitting over the winter. It will bump start no problem and then kicks fine after it has warmed up for a while. It was recommended that I change the fuel and spark plug....so I changed it this evening and it still won't kick start. First kick it backfired and then kept shooting a flame out of the tailpipe every kick after. I'm at a loss for the next step. I have played hell getting this thing to start and want a reliable bike for the riding season. The bike has a digital monitor that say 96.5 hours, the oil was changed last ride before parking it for the winter, bumped it today and rode for a few hours, then changed the plug and dumped the fuel. - note, there were a few times I heated the garage when it was cold out and it started after 20 - 30 kicks. That was not the issue today...it was mid 50's. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I just bought a 2011 Kawasaki KX250F. I left the bike idling for approx. 5-10 mins. I understand now that I wasn't supposed to do that. The coolant started leaking out for 1 minute and started burning (smoke). What could I have done to the engine? I would just like to know how severe of an issue this is.

Dialing idle with and A/F screw
Huey_Boondocks posted a topic in Motorcycle Jetting & Fuel Injection
Finally getting this 05 KX250F up and running. It's kicking over (most times) fairly quickly. However, when it gets going it's Idling at what seems to me to be high or will die out if I start adjusting the idle adjustment. I've done the recommended jetting from 40 to 42. My question is, I know where to start the air/fuel screw but when trying to find to sweet spot for idle where do you start with the idle screw and how do you work back and forth to find a nice idle? TIA -
Hello everyone! I’m brand new here so i apologize if this is in the wrong place. My top end is shot on my 2007 KX250F. Beyond repair. So, I need a new top end with cams. Now, from my understanding 06-08 models are all basically the same. What are my options? What other years/models fit and where should I go and find something that will work? Thank you!

I have just purchased a 2009 KX250f Monster Energy Edition I bought it knowing that it was going to need a little bit of TLC and I had planned to build the bike up from the ground over the summer. As I'm making a parts list and tearing down the bike I discovered that the piston had been seized at one point and damage the cylinder and other issues in the motor, with that being said.. My question to you guys is will a 2008 cylinder work for my 2009? I had found one locally for a screaming deal

Hey guys, new here. I tried the search before doing this but didn’t find too much. Maybe I did it wrong. Well I currently have a 2008 kx250f I just did my oil change 2 days ago and realized the glass having a whitish look to it. Oil that came out didn’t look milky or feel weird though. Bike as been running great and I checked my coolant and levels seem to be fine. Also my crankcase hose has a milky white oil coming out after riding... the oil in the sight glass is fine though? I also checked to my head gasket. I was told I could check it by taking the rad cap off and start the bike to see for any constant bubbles. There was no bubbles besides some little ones and the initial start up but they went away quickly. What should I do?

Okay so I picked up a 2018 kx250f the other week and took it riding and it was BAD ASS! I have a 2002 ktm125sx and it’ll whoop that thing any day! I’m going to the sand dunes this weekend and gonna use the 6 paddle I used on my 125. Should I be using an 8 paddle with a larger rear sprocket? I wouldn’t want my first experience in the dunes on this bike to be a bummer just because I had the wrong paddle on.

I have a 2013 kx250f, completely stock. The header has a megabomb-like bulge in it behind the exhaust guard, what is it??? I know for a fact it's stock, just don't know what its function is and why it's there, have a friend with a 2016 kx250f and it has the same thing so it's not year specific. Thanks
