  1. hi all so i got this bike not too long ago for what i thought was a steal a 96 kx 100 and has been giving me troubles since i got it knowing it would need a new shift shaft since the guy before me took what seemed to be a torch or maybe some sort of cutter to cut it into a square but once i bought it i found out when opening the side cover i was missing the clutch pusher and all the smalls that assemble it but the clutch looked fairly new, once i got all the parts i ran it but every time i would put it into gear it would start to bog down and die, when giving it alot of gas i could get it to go into gear but it would get stuck and the clutch also would not engage.. does anyone know what the problem could be? i managed it get it back out of gear but it gets stuck only when its running any thoughts help thanks
  2. I have a 1995 kx80 and have a Pro Circuit racing pipe and 304 silencer on it. The bike is too loud for where I ride. I want to know if I could put a Fmf slip on on my dirtbike. I dont need a exact fit but I need something. My Kx80 hit 120 Db when I was revving it up and 100 from 5 feet away idling. Can some on please help me.
  3. I have a 1985 kx80 and recently replaced the clutch plates and springs. The clutch basket is not grooved. I've put everything back together, and now the clutch won't disengage/engage when I pull the clutch lever. I put everything back together as per the service manual. I've even replaced the clutch cable. What am I missing on this???
  4. I just bought a 1983 KX80E and found an new old stock piston for $30 but can’t find rings. I know Wiseco make rings for it that cost around $45, so I was wondering if I could pair the aftermarket rings with the oem piston. (Same size).
  5. I purchased what I was told was a 2001 kx 85. It was blown up. I ordered a rebuild kit for that bike, not knowing that what I actually owned was a 1996 kx80. I discovered this after the piston wouldn’t fit in the jug. I was wondering if I could get the cylinder machined to fit the 85 piston as I can’t return it after it’s been installed. Thanks for any help in advance!
  6. So I ordered new clutch plates and springs for my 1986 Kx 80 and today I tried to change them. The clutch cover came off fine, however the bolt in the centre of the clutch WILL NOT BUDGE. I've tried ratchets, torque bars, and multiple impacts. The Bolt either doesn't move or the impact jumps off the head of the bolt, I need any suggestions or help. I will leave a picture of the manual page about the clutch if that helps you guys understand, thanks.
  7. need some help on my 1991 it seems to have a reverse clutch basket. need to get it apart for the case to be split. never had trouble because usualy the presusre plate just comes off with the 5 springs. really confuses and need some help ive done the drive gear washer method. 3/8 impact and still wont break loose. seen vids and looks like they have a bolt on the 91 kx80 mine seems to be a nut 100% so im really stuck and need some help. thanks guys
  8. I recently blew the clutch bearing on my 93 kx80. Bought a new bearing, put it in, and when i go to put everything back together and hook up the clutch cable there is a bunch of play and its like its not even engaging the clutch at all. So my guess is maybe im doing something wrong or theres some other issue. any help appreciated
  9. hi all does anyone have the service manual for a 96 kx 80 i have one with a kx 100 top end that I'm rebuilding and when i got to the clutch i couldn't seem to find any of the specs online
  10. Ok so heres my shot at a bad ass engine conversion and as usual i need a wimter project. Any help or input is appreciated. So i have a rolling chassis 1983 kx80. All the plastics and suspension are in fair condition. I recently purchased a 1992 y250 frankenstein bike. My plan is to stuff the yz250 engine into the kx80 frame and create the kids dream bike. I have a couple yz250 frames in which i am going to cut off the cradle and weld it onto the kx80 frame so it will accept the centerline exhaust. Also the original kx80 frame wouldnt fit the yz250 engine. I will fabricate all new motor mounts except the rear swingarm/motor mount. I will use the kx80 swingarm bolt and get a sleeve fabricated for the yz250 engine to accept the kx80 swingarm bolt. Will need spacers fabricated to align the drivechain. I will get a custom 520 rear sprocket for the kx80(gearing undecided). Will have detailed pics tonight
  11. I just bought a 1998 Kawasaki kx80, and I'm gonna need some help getting it running, so any help that anyone could provide would be great. The bike had a little bit of fuel in it, but it mostly looked like oil, so i'm guessing that the gas evaporated. It was looking very blue inside there. I put in some mixed fuel but not a lot, i'm not actually sure if it was the right mix. I tried kick starting it and it has some compression, but it wouldn't start at all. I tried push starting it and kicking it into second, and it got a lot closer to starting, but still would not fire up. Then I realized that the clutch was not engaging. When I pull the lever, I can see the cable moving, so I think it is something inside the bike. Also, when I pull the lever, I know its supposed to have some tension as you pull it in farther, but the tension does not change at all, like its not doing anything. I know I probably need to get inside the clutch side of it, but what is wrong with it, and what do I need to do? I'm going to clean the carburetor because that is probably one of the main problems, and I will also try cleaning the air filter. I know that it also has a blown head gasket, which is pretty easy to fix, and I can do that by myself. I also checked the spark plug, and it was super oily, and I cleaned it quickly, and made sure it was getting spark. It was sparking, so I put it back, and tried push starting some more times, and it got a little closer, but it still isn't starting. The bike is also super oily/greasy all over, and I have no idea why, is there a specific reason for this, or just because it has been sitting? One other thing that is wrong with it is that the rear brake works, but is super stiff, and when I push it down, it doesn't want to come back up so I have to pull it back up. The return spring does look a little rusty, and everything around the rear brake system does look a little rusty. I'm going to take it apart and lubricate it and see if that helps at all. What I know I need to do: Clean carburetor, clean air filter, replace head gasket, drain all the fuel in the tank and put the correct mixture in, check the oil and all the fluids, What I need answers to: Why isn't the clutch engaging, and what do I need to do to fix it. Should I get a new spark plug just in case, and why is it so oily in there? What else do you guys think could be wrong with it, and what do I need to do to it? Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it.
