  1. I've had several of these bike in my garage and they are not very stable on my bike stand. They flop left/right because of the downtube and frame rails. They don't sit flat. What do you guys use to stable them up? -suggestions welcome, thanks in advance

I am 14 years old and am looking for a bike I am 5,0-5,1 I have a friend with an 07 yz 85 who is looking to sell it to me but I am worried about how it handles and its seat height. maybe a kawasaki honda suzuki or ktm I am also looking at the crf 150r. I want to do some racing and trail riding. I currently Ride a xr100 and love the way it handles on the track and on trails but it lacks a little power. any ideas thanks

I replaced the transmission on an '05 kx85, and ive put the cases back together and everything spins freely, it shifts through all the gears, but once you put that tensioner thing that presses on the shift drum (dont know what the part's called) you cant shift into 3rd, itll get stuck halfway between second and 3rd, but once you take off that tensioner thing you can spin the drum and shift through all the gears just fine, whats going on?

  5. I was looking at graphics for a Klx 125 and noticed that Klx 110 plastics/graphics fit a kx 65. So would Klx 125 plastics fit a Kx 85? I tried looking this up on google but to no avail. Any feedback would be appreciated thanks,
  6. Just out of interest, I ride a 2012 yz85 big wheel, and I have just turned 13 but im quite tall (5'7) and weigh around 55 kilos (120lbs). I have had the bike for about 8 months now and want to move to a newer model 85. I was wondering if it would be worth hunting the market for another one or just to stick with what i have got. The main reason i want to move up a couple of years is because parts are so much easier to find. I don't race mx (don't have the time) but ride trails and on practice tracks. Id appreciate any info. ??
  7. I purchased what I was told was a 2001 kx 85. It was blown up. I ordered a rebuild kit for that bike, not knowing that what I actually owned was a 1996 kx80. I discovered this after the piston wouldn’t fit in the jug. I was wondering if I could get the cylinder machined to fit the 85 piston as I can’t return it after it’s been installed. Thanks for any help in advance!
  8. Does anyone know if a kx80/85/100 swingarm (post '88) will bolt on to a kx60 (post '85) not including the linkage and shock? Trying to get some more height out of this and turn it into a real mini montster as well as a disc brake conversion atleast in the rear. Open to any ideas even if that means I have to frakenstein this thing. I realize all the other parts I will have to buy including a wheel. Just wondering if it's possible. I've never been more scared to loop a bike before, this things hauls! Also if anyone has info on converting to 65 forks that would be appreciated. Not much info on these bikes but they seem cheap to build and I don't understand why there 't a market for it.
  9. I'm OK at doing wheelies in 2nd and 3rd gear but I can't do slow wheelies at all. So I'm wondering if I could use me kids CRF70 or CRF80 for some slow wheelie practice? I would think since they have a shorter wheelbase it would be more difficult to hold it at the balance point. Anyone done this and have any thoughts or pointers? Thanks!
  10. I recently got a 2012 kx85 that was crashed and now has a pretty bent subframe. Since the subframe is welded onto the frame, I can't just change it. I'm planning to buy a new frame and see two options. there is a 2011 kx100 frame and a 2014 kx85 frame for sale. Would either of these fit? if not, what frame would fit? Thanks in advance.

  12. Hey guys, brand new to the site. I just have a few questions on a bike that I will get my hands on in a few days. The bike is a 2007 KX 85. The bike has set for a long time without being ridden. The bike was running good when it was parked. I am trying to get this bike running once again so I can sell it and eventually get a bigger bike. I have some experience with small engine repair, but I need to learn more as I go. My plans are to get all the plastics off the bike first and give it a good clean before I dig in, I don't want any dirt falling into components while working on the bike. Next, I'll start with the spark plug, the one in the bike might be good, but I have purchased a new one just in case. The ethanol and dirt i'm sure has made its way to the carb. I plan to give the carb a good clean and make sure all of my fuel lines are working properly. Going to clean the tank, any tips would be helpful and getting that to top shape. Hopefully after the breakdown, I should get the bike running once again. Any helpful tips on cleaning the carb and tuning the jets would be greatly appreciated. Again, thanks guys, excited to be a part of the website. Lets get it going.
  13. I have just put a new transmission in a 2005 kx85, and everything spins freely while the case bolts arent tightened, but as soon as i tighten the case bolts the transmission and crank suddenly become very stiff and hard to move, what could be causing this?
  14. Good afternoon. I hoping someone can assist me. I not super mechanical but have the proper service manuals. Yesterday my son and i changed the shift shaft assembly and seal. Was happy that we were able to get it torn apart and changed without anything to challenging, followed the Clymers manual it was good. Filled the oil back up and put the coolant in. Now this KIPS thing is new to me, so i had just removed the eclip and put it and the cover aside. During reassembly we had a challenge getting the cover and gears all lined up but eventually it seemed to slide right into place. Today we fired it up, sounds a little noisy, I concerned as I the mechanic 🙂 took it for a quick spin and I would say its not right, I suspect the power valve is not perfectly aligned. I check the dot and the line on it and its night lined up. the question is is it the gear behind the cover that i need to take it apart again or can it be fixed from the KPS cover etc. Sorry can get pictures if needed this KX stuff is all new to me. Thanks father mechanic, with disappointed son.
  15. Hey guys, I'm new to the 2 stroke scene. I have been a mechanic all my life. I've worked on anything from airplanes to. Submarines. But this is a subject I know little about. I built a kx 85 2006 model for my son. It's got a 2001 kx100 bottom end and a kx85 jug. I can't for the life of me get it to fire. I'm using the factory cdi and stator. I have spark... But I'm not sure it's timed correctly. I had to modify the stator mounting bracket slightly to get it to bolt up and I'm thinking that is probably my problem. Can anyone help?
  16. Hi, I am 13 years old and I am trying to decide what bike I want to get (two stroke of course). I'm 5'2 - 5'3 tall, and I weigh 125lbs. I'm a beginner at this, meaning this is my first bike but, I have ridden a dirt bike a few times. My choices are the yz85, cr85, kx85, kx100, sx85, and the sx105 (Yamaha, Honda, Kawasaki, or Ktm). I am not interested in the rm because I just don't like it. It seems like a cheap crappy (sorry if I offended you) and it doesn't seem to have the speed and power that I want ( at least that's how people describe it to be). So please don't include it in. I am going to buy a used bike on Craigslist or somewhere because this is my first year and I'm not the richest of families (in case that helps.) Right now, I'm confused about which bike to get because they're all good brands. I want to be fast on the track (obviously) and I want to be aggressive. Which bike will fit that role? Can some also explain what top end and bottom end power is and what it helps with when you are listing a bike? Can you include the pro and con of it? I'm also not sure if an 85 is the right size for me, as I want to grow into a bike and have it last me. Maybe I should get a 125, if is so, which one (again, no Suzuki rm)? I'm going to a dealership to sit on some and try some (not too sure about trying some) Saturday but I just want thoughts about this. I don't know ANYONE with a dirt bike so the internet is my only friend here so I am really counting on you. My mom doesn't know anything about dirt bikes or the sport so I have to really look at this stuff myself. If you have any tips, please leave some as they will be helpful for me or any other onlookers in the same situation as I am in.
  17. I recently bought a broken kx100 that suposedly only needed a kick start gear. So i bought a parts engine and replaced the lower unit with a working one and did a top end rebuild. It put it partially back together following all torque requirements and tried starting it. i tried kicking it but the kick start will engage but wont return back up after i kick it. So i decided to bump start it (with the original gas it came with, idk if its bad or not). After giving up on kick starting i bump started it, this after a while made it start up and run crappy a few times. But every time it would start after 1 minute it would die and come to a complete stop. The piston would not move in gear when i would pushed the bike. So i took off the flywheel housing and spun it from there, once i did that the piston freed up would move when in gear. and also would start and move for only a minute and then return to doing the same thing. It seems like the engine internals are binding up on something or something is not in there properly. Anyone had a simular problem as me? this is driving me nuts because i have alot of money in the bike and it starts bud doesnt run correctly
