  1. Hey, guys. This is my first post here. I searched the forum for relevant topics, but struggled to find solid information on this. I have a 2001 DRZ-400E that I would like to upgrade the headlight on, but I'm having trouble finding good options as most of what I can find online is for 400S's and 400SM's. I need something that can get quite bright as I would like to be able to ride trails/courses at night at a decent clip. It doesn't need to be DOT-approved as I can't convert it to or register it as a road bike where I live. I would also like to buy and install either an on/off switch for it, or even better, a low-beam/high-beam or off/low/high switch for it. If the new lamp can be easily fitted within the OEM shroud, even better as I don't mind the stock plastics, especially as it's going to be ridden pretty hard. All in, I'd like to find an option that costs less than $200CAD. What's available? Bonus points if it's readily available in Canada. I was curious about the Baja Designs Squadrons. I spoke to a rep and according to them, they are compatible with the wiring on the 400E. Price is out of my budget though. Especially considering shipping it into Canada costs $120USD alone. I'm a noob when it comes to tinkering with wiring, pardon my ignorance. If there's good literature on this topic that already exists, please send me there. I obviously couldn't find it. Thanks in advance, tl;dr: What bright headlight upgrade options with switches are available for the DRZ-400E?
  2. I was looking around at various fork oils and came across redline oil. Particularly the 5wt light in pts. Has anyone used this stuff and can comment on how well it works or feels and if it lasts. I would guess with the outrageous price the stuff should basically ride the bike for me but hay. Most stuff from redline is above and beyond what most companies produce. Previous used maxima, Honda, and Belray.
  3. I can't find a light weight flywheel to replace the one in my 2014 500EXC. It is going to be used strictly for hill climbing so quick shifting is very important and I need to be able to get the bike up to high RPM's as fast as possible. A flywheel weight is easy to find, but I can't find a replacement that is "lighter". Can anyone help please
  4. I have an '86 CR500R with what appears to be a 2-piece split alternator winding. I'm evaluating the possibility of adding a small light to the existing system, or possibly modify the system to be able to. I need answers to the following questions: - What is the stock Power (Wattage) rating on each of these two coils? - Which coil is used for spark? Which is for the ignition module control power? - What is the operating voltage? Does it vary? Does the module have a built in voltage regulator? - Does anybody have a circuit diagram of the stock ignition module's internal circuitry? - How many wraps of wire are on these two windings?
  5. I just picked up a new 18 Xtrainer and I must say, I'm Xcited for spring. I drove it home through yesterday's east coast snow storm. While waiting on the certificate of origin from the dealer, I'm going to be working on installing turn signals to get it street legal here in VA I have a set of 12v LED strips that I think I want to mount on the hand guards. I originally bought them to use a turn signals, but I think I want to use them as running lights. After looking at the wiring diagram, I think the best option for getting power would be the parking lamp in the headlight. Does anyone have any better suggestions?
  6. Hello, I have a 1989 XR250R that I am going to convert to a dual sport. I ordered the Tusk lighting kit and the drum brake switch. However, I do not know how to install the front brake light switch. What part would I need and how would I install? Sorry I am a noob. Thanks
  7. I live in the woods and don't always make it home before dark. My question Is, is it possible to wire and power a low voltage LED light to the stock stator without interfering with operation of the bike. If so, how? Any help is greatly appreciated!!! Thanks!

    2017 YAMAHA TR230 Headlight install

Hi I have a 2017 ttr230 and I ordered a headlight and switch but I need a wire harness unless if anyone knows how to wire it a Different way. https://m.ebay.ca/itm/Universal-Dirt-Bike-Motorcycle-Vision-Headlight-Head-Light-Street-Fighter-Lamp-/332143818141?txnId=1501555486014 https://m.ebay.ca/itm/7-8-39-39-22mm-Motorcycle-Handlebar-Horn-Turn-Signals-High-Low-Beam-Headlight-Switch-/142470679622?txnId=1497984268004
  9. I have a 2008 KTM 200 (PDS). I am 5'4", 135lbs, and have short legs. I race B harescrambles in New England. I am one the lightest riders and probably the shortest. On the fast smooth hard pack or sandy stuff I am phenomenal, most likely the greatest of all time. I know everybody is fast on smooth easy track... but I'm faster than that. But add bumps, any bump, and suddenly I am by far the slowest guy out there. I assumed for years that I just needed more practice on hard/rocky/rooty terrain, but over and over again I see people mosey past me like its nothing while I am trying my absolute hardest to keep control. Any kind of rock or root, big or small feels like a combination of riding on marbles and a bouncy house. My bike wants to go anywhere but straight as well as shooting up vertically. Additionally to that, I cannot touch the ground at all. So any erratic movement that throws me off balance requires gymnastics to touch ground and secure myself. I've had my suspension done by a reputable guys who do suspension for other racers (2 different places). I'm positive they know what they are doing. My suspicion is that a the springs rates calculated for my bike are wrong for light riders ( I assume there is some table KTM or WP provided for selecting the right spring). Or the that valving needs to also take my weight into consideration. I have played with the clickers which helps but I am still no one near where I want to be. My forks now are soft enough to bottom out if I hit a woop wrong (which is fine) but still don't seem to absorb small fast bumps. The best clicker settings I ever did was virtually no compression dampening (3 clicks above 0) with light rebound dampening (12 clicks above 0). It bottomed out on anything fast but help stop the bike from launching off rocks and roots (still was not great though). Another thing to note is that I have 1" taken out on both the forks and shock to make the bike lower. I know this does not help the situation as it takes away suspension travel but it does help for touching the ground. Does anyone know anything about this or had a similar experience? Would a fork with a separate hi speed circuit help my problem? Do the newer KTMs have better suspension? Thanks.
  10. Anyone have any experience adding a switch to the speedometer backlight, or power in? Anyone know of side effects to killing power to it all together briefly for stealth mode? I’m looking to add separate headlight and tail light switches as i had once done to an 08 230L. This seems to be the difficult / unfamiliar part. Thank for any info!
  11. Here's my take on the Thumper Jockey Enduro 3000 Head Light Kit. I didn't find too many reviews of the product on Youtube, so I made my own. I just discovered this site (and love it) so let me know if I'm off the mark here.
  12. Can anyone tell me which connectors go to what for front/rear turn signals, brake light, tail light, plate light, horn, radiator fan? I am having trouble matching them up with the wiring diagram. It seems like the wire colors don’t match. I have the tank off the bike currently so starting it to test with a multimeter is tricky at the moment.
  13. Hi Guys, As days are getting shorter, it is harder to get out while the sun is still out, so I am looking to get a light installed on the bike. Ideally powered by the bike so I don't have to carry an extra battery. Now I have contacted Yamaha Canada to see how much power was available to me to install a light, but they wouldn't give me a precise answer and told me installing the light might overheat the electrical system. and what part of the power available is AC and DC? I contacted Baja designs, as they make kits for the '15-'18 models, but said they had issues with discharging on 2019 model ( with their 40 watt and 80 watt lights ). Yet from the parts catalogue on Yamaha I cannot find a difference in electrical system between a 2015 and 2019 FX... I've also read on this forum a few people did install lights on their '15-'18 FX, but haven't found anyone with a 2019. During the summer I was contemplating installing a Fan to prevent overheating, which I've seen is a plug an play option from GYTR. When I look at a competitor's fan, it indicates a power draw of 30 watts, so I assume the GYTR should be similar. Meaning the bike should have at least 30W to spare?? So my question is, does anyone have a 2019 YZ250FX and runs a light on it powered by the bike? If so, please tell me what model you are running. I'm not a big electronics guys so I want to make sure I don't damage any components of the bike by installing a light that draws too much power. Thanks for the help!
