Hi, I'm new to the forum and a new 1972 Honda XL250 owner. I hope to contribute in the future, but for now, I've got a problem I'm hoping someone can help with. I'm currently pulling the carb apart for cleaning and one of the 3mm screws that attaches the valve plate to the throttle valve is stuck and pretty stripped. I've tried soaking it in evaporust and simple green max (not at the same time) in an ultrasonic cleaner, spraying it with PB Blaster, and using multiple screwdrivers with no luck. It's a really tight space to work in as well. Any suggestions on how to get this out? Should i just put the other screw back in and clean the throttle valve assembly all together and just deal with the screw next time? While I've got you here, the float valve (2nd picture) fell out before i could see its orientation. Does the cone shaped end or more narrow end face up and have the float rest on it? Any help is much appreciated. Pictures included.
Hi all, It seems the 1972 XL250 I recently purchased has a lot of stuck bolts, go figure. Right now, I'm battling the 17mm oil drain plug. I've tried several penetrating oils and a breaker bar with a 3ft steel pipe extension and all I seem to do is warp the bolt further. My question is this: Is it safe/advised to try an impact driver to attempt to loosen the drain plug? If so, any recommended techniques? Thanks again for the help.
Had my bike tapped out on pavement then she locked right up, held the clutch, came to a stop, loaded her up, top end looks perfect. Trying to find the next best bottom end to OEM standards.. I didn’t expect anything of this kind of nature but here we are and I believe it’s only the bottom bearing on my rod, Hope I can get some suggestions on getting parts and also is there any suggestions for tools (crankcase splitter, flywheel puller, bearing and seal driver) as I’m on my way to Edmonton tomorrow for a break the bank kind of day, any opinions are greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!!
