  1. Hi All, So I may be buying my brothers 2001 kx250 off him. Fully rebuilt engine top / bottom with hardly any use in the last 7 years. I got it running again recently after having stator issues. Put in a new stator, cleaned the carb and she was good to go! However Recently she developed a oil leak when parked. I will come out and see a puddle under the bike. I just pulled the engine out of the bike and still am not seeing any obvious signs of where the leak is coming from. I am thinking it is leaking where the crank case seals along the bottom as its heavily coated in oil down there. Oil that came out when i drained it was brand new, same with the coolant. How can i tell if the crankcase needs to be resealed? and is it a big job to do that? Thanks all.
  2. Hi guys! I purchased a 1979 Honda XR185 recently for restoration. Finally got it running and those good things, but then I discovered that the rear shock absorbers were leaking oil, and have become very soft. I was wondering if any of you could help me find a new set of 17" shocks and would fit this thing. Also, if it helps, it is very similar to the 1979 XL185S, which I had ordered parts from for my bike. Know anyone who can help? Who could rebuild it? Are there are any replacements for sale? Is this bike even supposed to have 17" shocks!? Any feedback is appreciated and I look forward to reading it. -Reid
  3. I just bought a new carburetor for my ttr 125 because when trying to remove the seat from the old carb i damaged the carb beyond repair. Anyway I set up the new carb and when I start it up it revs up and holds at high rpms. When I take the carb off the throttle slide still has about a centimeter or more that it can go down. I think it’s letting to much gas in. I tried firing it up and adjusting the gas and air screw but it doesn’t change the idle at all. Anyone have an answer?
  4. how much should i buy a 90cc honda f4 pitbike if the carb needs to be cleaned bad and needs new tires
  5. I recently bought a 2001 Cr250r that needed more than I thought in work. It ended up being a full rebuild on the engine and mostly every bearing on the bike. My current problem is that I have a small ding in one of the ports on the cylinder. I don’t have much money to spend on this bike so I don’t want to have it replated if I don’t need to. I was hoping I could just hone it. If anyone knows anything about that please help me out 1.can I still use my stock piston after it’s honed(it’s new) 2. Will honing it and maybe sanding hurt the bike. I want it to be as reliable as it can with the least money.
  6. Just got my 1972 Honda XL250 back up and running after a fresh cylinder, piston and rings. I replaced the intake gasket and have a new Chinese 1979 carb all hooked up. Bike usually starts first kick when cold but after I run it a little bit it will either shut down when getting low RPMs when taking off (like I stalled it but it just wants to die), or ill turn it off and go to kick it over 20 seconds later but it wont have it unless its been sitting a couple minutes or so. Choke or no choke, i usually take the plug out and its dry then put it back in and it fires right up. Carb issue? I have another little carb without a return cable but I like using the new one I bought because it has a return cable. I tried turning the carb air/fuel mixture screw a turn or two in both directions and running it like that but no difference, really. I did die on a mountain and took the plug out the other day and it seemed to maybe have a weak looking spark but it was sunny out and I wasnt sure. have at me!
  7. I bought a 2010 KX250f from a guy who bought the bike brand new back in 2010 (only had 1 owner). The guy put a high compression piston in this bike. Also he was pretty much running straight race gas because when he took it to the shop, they must have messed with the jets because they weren’t stock anymore. I got new jets. Currently at...........………Pilot Jet - 42. Main Jet 185 I’ve messed with my air screw and tried a few things out but I still have to kick my bike like 30 times before it finally starts! The piston is supposed to be high compression but it doesn’t feel that way. I’m thinking of just replacing it and going back to stock??? Any thoughts? Ive read that valve clearance is an issue with this year bike... Also that Kawis need a little throttle when you kick. It ends up flooding every time. Send help please!!
  8. So basically, I bought a 1998 cr125 that needed a new top end, bottom end, bearings, and gaskets. once i got those on, the bike ran well. i did 8 hours of riding, stopped for a week, then went to go ride it. The bike wouldn’t start. Carb was clean, i had a little bit of spark. I bought a new spark plug and it ran, then the day after that it wouldn’t start nThat day is today. What do y’all think happened? something with the wiring harness or somethin? I can feel spark when i test it, but i don’t see a spark where u are supposed to see one. it feels weak. Update: I bought an ignition coil for the bike, ima see if that’s the issue
  9. Hey! I'm currently in the misft of "rebuilding" the top end of my bike after hearing a tick. Clearances were fine, needed Tappets or Cam Rockers and valves. So I was stupid enough to take off the Cam chain tensioner before I took off the cam gear. So with the tensioner off I need to take off the Cam Gear. Well, my buddy didn't hold the socket tight enough and the whole chain skipped notches. Now I have a piston that is maybe 1/10 away from tdc and the valves 1/10 to tdc. I need help on timing the engine correctly. Aswell putting in the Camshaft in correctly. Do I turn the Piston to TDC and close the valves shut? Than put the Cam Gear on, than put the chain on, than the tensioner. Getting the piston it-self to tdc wont be hard, but I NEED help putting the valves to tdc and the cam in correctly? Is there a manual for this? Is there marking for this?
  10. Okay so i have had this ds80 for awhile i bought it about 3 months ago and its a 1986 suzuki ds 80 shes in pretty rough shape when i got her dirt and grime wise not to mention she wont start. I began taking the engine apart looking at the fuel thats coming in and noticed on the spark plug that it was fouled up with uncompressed two stroke fuel and that their was barely any transmission oil in the low end so i set out and bought some good top of the line gear oil and regular pil tried to start it like that but it wouldnt work i checked for spark against the cylinder head and it checked out and i was getting fuel so my next thought my seasoned rider friends told me i didnt have enough compression because it was easy to crank over i put my finger over the spark plug hole and cranked it over and their was a decent amount. May i also mention that when i got it the ds8p was flooded and i had to undue that. So after taking apart the engine and the carb the bowl and lower end of the carb were the float resides is super ate up and riddled with white metal oxidation which is from water obviously so i cleaned that up and my next idea is that their is a compression issue so when taking the head off both the piston and cylinder walls looked perfect without almost any scratches whatsoever and their was slight carbon build up inside but that was it eveeything looked great. Was wondering what it could be now my friend just suggested it is most likely the crank bearings or something of that sort but i dont know what it could be.
  11. Gday was Wondering if anyone knew what speedo goes on that mount and if they knew where I could buy it. I bought the bike with it missing. It would Be a digital speedo. cheers for help
  12. Hey guys I bought a dead 1984 Kawasaki kdx200 and I'm trying to revive it. I bought a brand new inner rotor ignition system and installed it so I have spark coming from my plug. However every time I go to kick start this thing I get a wet plug and it won't start. It will make a quick noise like it's about to start but it never will. I've tried new plugs, and new gas, cleaned the carb and still no start. Any idea at what could be happening? Thanks guys.
  13. I am riding a family enduro. Have ran them before, but always have trouble with "free time" clock keeping. read this from a timekeeping for begineers web site post .... What are those other things like resets, free time, etc.? A reset is simply a device used by the promoter to stop time and allow you to get back on schedule. If you have a reset from 5.0 to 7.4 and the speed average is 24 mph, then you move your odometer ahead 2.4 miles at the 5.0-mile marker. What this amounts to is a 6-minute rest period. (7.4-5.0/.4 = 6 minutes) The clock keeps running, but you've just been teleported 2.4 miles ahead. Take this time to drink water, eat and catch your breath. Free time is a little different in that the mileage remains the same, but you just sit for however many minutes See my route chart below and here are my "free time" questions: If I am on my minute up till that first 15 min free time segment, why does not the start of segment clock keep ticking? its stays at 9:53. I have just finished segment #4, a 0.5 mile route at 15 mph. I am on my minutes and have zero'd any chekcs up till the free time, the far right column says its 10:10 OH I just got it, that last little 0.5 mile segment at 15 mph ( 0.25 miles/min) started at 9:53 and 0.5 miles should end at 9:53 + 0.5/.25 or 9:53 + 2 min = 9:55.... NOT the 10:10 shown at the right column That 10:10 includes the +15 free time. OH, Ok now I see it look its the same math at lunch, Free time of 60 min, just befoore that free time, the last segment was only 1 mile at 12 MPH = 1/0.2 miles/nmin = 5 minute, so we started that segment if we are on time at 11:01 + 5 minute = 11:06 finish NOT the 12:06 shown as that has the 60 free time added to it. so the first half of the Enduro is 32.5 miles and runs from 9 am till 11.01 or two hours. GOT IT . I would have added the 15 min extra to the free time row, not the previous row , but whatever, Am i right?
  14. I’m hoping someone can help me out here. I bought a 2014 YZ450F two months ago. I’ve ridden the bike a few times and the bike was working flawlessly! It started within 3 to 4 kicks when cold and started with one kick when hot, every time. Yesterday I went to start my dirt bike in the garage and it started up just fine. It was idling for about 2 or 3 minutes when all of a sudden it shut off. This had never happen to this bike before , so I knew something was off. I spent around 30 minutes trying to kick this bike over. It will not start what so ever! I have fresh gas in the tank. My first thought was spark plug so I did the good ol spark test. I took it out and grounded it to the bike. I saw spark.( spark plug looked carbon fouled though). I bought a new spark plug and installed it. Tried to kick it over but it still wouldn’t start. I have not done a compression test but there seems to be quite a bit of compression while using the kickstarted. My next thought was the fuel pump. I took the tank off, took out the fuel pump, and connected it to a 12v battery. I had a bowl of gas and submerged the pump. Connected a line to the pump. The pump worked just fine. Installed the pump back in the tank and put it back together. Tried to crank it again. Still would not fire up. BTW, I tired to bump start it and still didn’t start. I put a few drops of gas under the spark plug and kickstarted it. It didn’t start but it did backfire so I know there is sufficient spark. This now leads me to believe the injector is bad. What are the odds of the bike running just fine and all of a sudden it stops and won’t start due to a bad injector? I am fit to be tied trying to get this bike to start. Does anyone have any suggestions? Please!
  15. So I just did a rebuild on my 98 Yz80, and it wont start. At first, we put the gaskets on wrong, so coolant was leaking everywhere. After we fixed that, and put everything back into place again, piston went up and down smoothly, and it has great compression. The problem is, it does not want to start. Im not really sure what to do, because before, my compression was very low, so I did a rebuild, but now it still does not start. So I need help.
  16. I’m 5’9 and 120 pounds, the only bike I’ve ever ridden was my 01 XR100 for a year. Loved that bike but I need something a bit bigger and more power. I’ve never ridden a 2 stroke but I love the idea of getting one, I’m thinking either a 125 2 stroke or 250 4 stroke. Please tell me if either of these would be good or if I should get something else thanks
  17. So I’m new to dirt bikes but my cousin has one that I ride every week and I’m learning quickly, he has a 2006 Honda CR85, and though it fits me well, I don’t believe I can get one for my price range. So here’s what I’m looking for: -Bigger size bike, I am 5’11 and 150 pounds and I do not want a pit bike or a small bike. -I want one that is going to be durable and not break down a lot -My maximum price is $700, and I would like to spend closer to $500 if possible -I am buying used so keep in mind I am not buying a new dirt bike, so it will be cheaper and I can negotiate the price some as well -Though I don’t plan on racing or anything, I want a bike that can get some good speed, so a bike with a max speed of 40mph isn’t ideal -I am open to any type of bike so I’m fine with a manual or semi-auto, I can use a clutch and stuff so yeah, 4 stroke is PREFERABLE if possible Anyone have any suggestions? Right now I am looking at a 2002 Honda XR80, a 2008 Honda CRF 80, and a 2005&2011 Yamaha Tt-R125. But I think these bike will be too small for my liking.
