  1. Hey everyone, Went to start my 2006 DRZ4SM this morning and it's making a popping sound and shooting the spark plug boot/wire right off the plug every time. In need of some opinions as I just replaced the plug not too long ago and things were running great. Thanks in advance!
  2. Hey All, I have never posted but I have used thumper talk to get my bike squared away, very nice info and details. I just wanted to update some people that may have a honda crf450R carburated. I went thru all the forums for an after fire on a CRF450r and went thru them all with no luck. What fixed it I never found on the forum so I wanted to start a thread incase others were having similar issues. So what happened was my bike started popping like crazy nothing had changed (jetting, fuel screw, etc) checked for air leaks none, rebuilt carburator nothing, adjusted fuel screws thru all extremes in 1/8 turn increments nothing. Thinking it was jetting I rejeted to a ridiculous level sea level -28 degrees popping went away but had a bog. I finally realized the only thing I had not checked was the Float Level. After checked electrical, carb rebuilds, air leaks, etc I decided to check the float, did not think it would have a impact but by sure it did. I made a U out of cardboard |____________| 8mm deep and the width of the carb (saw this on thumper it worked wonders) and checked the float, I soon found out it was out of wack by 2mm (needs 8mm) I checked this by running fuel thru until it shut off and measured. Once I got the float figured out and measurement right I re-jetted to my altitude approx 50000 ft. with temps from 40-100 degrees (did a 172 jet, 42 slow jet, 2nd clip on the needle and my problem went away with a couple turns of the fuel screw no popping on acceleration (slight pop on decel when you go from full throttle to no throttle I believe this is normal or semi normal). I never saw the float mentioned so I do not know if the 3rd time taking apart the carb is the charm or if adjusting the float had that big of an impact. So if you CRF honda is popping while accelerating and you feel like your carb is clean and not plugged check the float it may save you some headache. Thanks Thumper Talk, best forum for any info on almost anything. Amazing experience here, keep up the good work.
  3. Hey guys, I’ve got a 2011 kx250f and when I go to kickstart it, it pops and shoots flames out the exhaust. The only way it starts is if you bump start it behind something for a minute or two. Any ideas on what it is..
  4. I bought a lean running '03 CRF230F. The previous owner had swapped in a high compression piston, removed the baffle, but did not adjust the carburetor or jetting (to my knowledge). The bike would regularly backfire on deceleration. Anyways, I did the fuel screw procedure and I have adjusted the fuel screw to 2 3/4 turns out because that is where it idles the best and the bike now only backfires when shifting into 2nd occasionally. However, acceleration in high gears feels a bit delayed and boggy. Too rich? Too lean? Should I bring my fuel screw in to 2 1/2 turns instead (bike seemed to idle just as good at this adjustment, with a little bit more popping while riding). My spark plug looks good to me, but I'm open to different opinions. Bottom line: Slight popping when shifting from first to 2nd, high gear acceleration feels delayed but I can't tell if it's a lack of fuel (lean) or a bit too much (rich). What's the next step? Thanks!
  5. Hey all, Just installed my yoshimura rs2 full system and have been having alot of backfire on deceleration and engine breaking. The bike has a 3*3 mod and jd jetting. The kit says to use the 165 vs the 155 if you have full exhaust. Could the issue be having the 155 installed and not the 165? Or could it be a header leak. It looks like the flange on one side is just barely not flush but it will not tighten anymore than it already is. If you think it is a header leak what is an easy way to test that? Im thinking its the jetting, but thats just my amateur opinion. Any thougts?
  6. I have a 2018 KTM exc 500 with the vortex, aftermarket pipe, reed valve removed and a Uni filter. I did the emissions block off which stopped the backfiring and missing. It has run great for months yet recently the backfiring on deceleration and missing just off idle has started again. I double checked to make sure that the emission hose by the spark plug is blocked off and it is. Do you have any idea what might be causing this backfiring and missing just off of idle? Thank you in advance
  7. Ok guys well my bike isn't running right at all here some info on whats going one. About 3 weeks ago i was riding my bike and everything was fine shut it off and when i restarted it is stareted to run like crap. It pops and boggs at most throttle positions. I have removed the carb and made sure is was clean and good to go. I have been into it 3 tims in the last 2 weeks and i even cleaned it in a sonic bath. still same exact problem. I have checked for leaks while running by spraying carb cleaner around the entire carb and boot etc, no changes. My bike: -2006 DRZ400s with a stock Mikuni BSR36 Carborator My mods are: -CW BBK -Yoshi RS2 full system -K&N air filter I have the JD carb jet kit. the jets are: -Main Jet 155 -Pilot jet 25 -Starter jet 62.5 -Using the blue needle with the clip in the middle position So I installed the CW BBK about 3 years ago and along with the exhaust and the jet kit so it has about 9,000 miles on it and it ran MINT the entire time until now. I have also linked a video to this thread showing me slowly rev and hold throttle from idle,1/8,1/4 and 1/2 throttle. the rattling in the video is from my lift i use just fyi. The stator was replaced last season due to non charging and was replaced with a new OEM unit. Just for shits and giggle I have another known good stator so i swapped it out to see if that was a problem and still have the same issues. So any idea would be appreciated! Thanks guys
  8. I have a 2018 Yamaha yz250f (fuel injection), the past couple of times I’ve taken it to the track I’ve noticed the exhaust makes a popping noise when slowing down/downshifting fast, it doesn’t happen every time and when it does it’s only a couple pops, I did some research but I couldn’t find much on if it’s bad or not. Is this something I should look into fixing or is it a normal thing that is just the engine slowing down rapidly. Would appreciate the feedback, Thanks!
  9. So my 1998 suzuki dr350 has not been idling correctly and popping whenever I let off the throttle and decelerate with the clutch out. I suspected an air leak from reading other forums and sprayed my pipes down with soapy water to look for leaks. The connection between the aftermarket supertrapp exhaust that the previous owner installed and the header is spewing enough air to send water flying off the pipe. It's on one specific side of the clamp. I tried to tighten the exhaust clamp but it didn't make a difference. I could maybe go tighter but I don't want to break anything? Then I tried taking the muffler off to get a better look but it is pretty stuck on and I'm not sure how to get it off without damaging it. I'm not even sure I need to get it off period so I stopped trying. I attached a picture below of the connection. Any help on what to try or what to do next would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance.
