  1. I know, I know...it's not fair, but sometimes you gotta remind your boys who's the boss. Plus, racing is just plain fun. Had a blast out with my boys riding today. The bikes in the video are a 2007 Honda CRF70F, and a 2002 Kawasaki KLX300R.
  2. So I thought I should create a new thread to dump my vlogs into for the few that do watch them. This year I'll be racing the Open A class competing in both the NORCS and NMA off-road series as well as the Desert 100 and maybe some other races throughout the year.   3. I guess this is kind of a novice question but may as well ask. Does anyone have any little known tips/ secrets you used to get faster offroad/ enduro races. I find that I mainly struggle with confidence in the wide open type stuff (40-45 mph) and cornering. All help is appreciated? thanks.
  4. Hi all! First time poster. Go easy on me. I'm a long time dirt bike rider from the Mt. Hood, OR area, though I've never competed except for a couple flat track races on vintage Yamaha XS650s. A long time goal of mine is to build a team and race in the Baja 1000. I'm hoping to find a motorcycle team heading to Baja in 2019 or 2020 that I can join (the SF250, Baja 500 or 1000) as a member of the support crew. I figure joining a crew would be a great way to get a lay of the land down there, understand the race and logistics and the process, and just learn from those that know. I'd prefer to join a motorcycle team, but any team would really do for the first time down there. Background on me: my dad has been a mechanic for over 40 years, he got me started wrenching on things when I was young, and I still rebuild motors regularly (2t and 4t singles, and multi cylinder vintage bikes). I think I can handle most things on a pit crew: tire/wheel swaps, fuel, minor wrench and repairs, etc. I've ridden Honda, Yamaha, KTM, Husky, and Husaberg and have pretty solid familiarity with their thumpers. Currently I'm on a 300 XC-W and a FE570. My real strength lies in logistics. I'm a producer in advertising currently at a big footwear/sports brand based in Portland. My whole job is organizing moving parts, personnel, schedules, and budgets for advertising productions around the world. I'd love to bring this skillset to a team if it's needed. Additionally, I used to live in Ecuador and Peru and speak Spanish fluently and have been to Mexico 8 or so times (but never Baja). Hoping this forum post will help point me in the right direction.   8. I have a 2008 YZ450F with a stock header pipe and Pro Circuit T-4 Slip-On Exhaust. I'm 99% sure the slip on is shot because its loud as hell and when I take it off and shake it it rattles. I would repack it but the screws are all stripped ect. Anyways I've gone over the carb multiple times and I've got it running pretty well. The only issue I have with the bike is that it sputters and pops around 1/2 throttle when I hold it there. When I give it full throttle from any RPM it runs great or when I give it about 3/4 throttle it spins up like a top to redline. Initially the popping and sputtering was way worse I made the situation better by moving the pilot jet up in a few sizes from a 45 (stock) to a 62. The issue has gotten way better since then but I'm not super sure what to do from here. Should I keep moving my pilot jet up in size because that's a pretty large jump right? I tried changing my needle clip position but that didn't help much if anything it just made starting it worse and little to no impact on the ride. Any input on this would be helpful. I don't want to buy other slip on. Also as for the rest of the carb I'm very sure everything else in it is what it needs to be at. I've replaced all the gaskets and O-rings cleaned all the jets, valve holes ect. fixed the accelerator pump timing. I just thinks its strange that my pilot jet size is going so far from the stock 45, but all symptoms point to the bike running lean.
  9. Hey guys, so me and my buddy went out riding the other day and we had a little race, his 2014 KX250F vs my 06 KX450. I thought I would have easily smoked him. To my surprise we were dead even :/. Now I am starting to believe something is definitely wrong with my bike. The piston is brand new, the valves were recently adjusted. However my carb has been in need of a good clean. Are these newer 250F's really that fast? Or is it possible something is wrong with my bike (Clutches, carb, valves)? He does have an FMF pipe on his bike and he is definitely lighter than me by a couple pounds at least. What so you guys think?
  10. Welcome to another beautiful weekend! This weekend of May 27th, we have: District 23 MX is Cambridge and Millville, presumably organized practice on Saturday if you're just a "professional practicer" like me Off-Road has nothing, but you should be getting ready for Huntersville Enduro on Sunday June 4th (3rd for youth) Hare Scramblers should be getting ready for Meadow Valley on Sunday, June 11th Open Motocross Arkansaw, WI Meadow Valley Trails I'm not sure here, this site http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/ohv/closures.html shows that some places are closed, where Snake Creek and Trout Valley in Southeast MN show open. Could be they got hit with less rain, have different soil or drainage, etc. Geez that's about all I can find. Pipe up if I'm wrong somewhere or you know more places open this weekend!
  11. Did a little different Endurance race and had a great time. The Off-Road Cup took place in Eastern Oklahoma and up to three people can join up to race it as a team. Or you can be crazy and attempt to ride all 9 hours yourself (Ironman). Any way you do it, it is a ton of run. Enjoy.   13. Since the 2017 series is over I figured I'd share my experience/time racing the series... some entertainment for those who aren't riding as much anymore this time of the year. This is my first time racing a series and pretty much racing in general. I entered the Open B class on board my KTM 300 XC and was able to compete in 8 out of the 9 rounds held. I do include more footage of each event at the end of some vlogs... so if you were there watching or racing, you are probably caught on camera. Enjoy!
  14. Tired of putting money into an old 2003 KX 250 that keeps breaking and isn't perfect for what I ride, has some upgrades but kills me every race from the suspension. I like the bike but just don't want to be the guy who puts $1000 into suspension to make it suitable. What does anyone think the best option would be? budget around $3000. 6ft 160lbs. Really interested in a crf 450x or a wr450, and I know it will be heavy for me to handle but I'm hoping the trail settings and suspension should compensate and still be better than my KX (and it would still be a fun powerful bike). Ideally I would want a 250f mx bike that already had the suspension work done, but that is rare. Is there a certain 250f to buy that would have the "best" stock mx suspension for the woods? Really want something reliable and newer (2006-2010ish) but I know I would be bored of a regular trail bike (KDX, 250x, TTR) after the first ride, and need something to be able to compete. I can deal with my 250 2Ts power but the 450x torque might be a bit much in the PA single track. KTM is an option, probably only a 2 stroke, but bikes newer than 2005 are fairly expensive and hard to come by. Any suggestions for a competitive woods bike for that budget would be great, thanks.
  15. This post was initially in a different thread. I moved it because it was off topic there. Ok so I just bought an 18 300 xc-w which I thingk I got an acceptable deal on. I do race and before this bike I had a 13 450xc-w and before that jap bikes. Here is a list of what I am doing to this bike to make it what I feel is "ready to race". Bike cost OTD: $8500. Suspension sent out to Kreft for RC makeover with springs for my weight and microfinish. $1480 EE skid plate: $98.95 EE clutch guard: $35.99 EE rear disk guard: $94.95 EE pipe guard: $125.99 JD jetting kit: $84.95 Unibiker rad guards: $112.00 Total to make it what I consider "ready to race": $10532.83. This does not include other things that I have added because I don't feel they are necessary to "Race". Things like the steering stabilizer mount so I could mount my stabilizer from my old bike, RK Tec head, tubliss front and rear (I had on my old bike and loved them). Anyway my point is that for me to make this bike "ready to race" I had to add another $2000 in parts. Granted I could have just bought springs for my weight but after all I read it seems that the stock xplor suspensioni is lacking once you get up to speed. My old suspension on my 13 was not great either until I had it revalved by RG3 Montana. So yes sending it to Kreft is not probably necessary to race, but RG3 Montana seems to be out of business. My old yz450f had pretty good suspension out of the box. My opinion is they are far from "ready to race". If you don't take that bike home and go through and grease all bearings and tighten every bold then you are begging for bearing issues or parts to fall off your bike. Jap bikes don't get much grease from the factory either though. I love my KTM's and all the other bikes I have had but I do not really care for the tag line. What are your thoughts on this tag line and do any of you take your bike off the showroom floor and just put gas in it at a race and ride it in said race?

  18. Okay. So originally I thought my (2011 EFI 450) wasn’t starting because I messed up the electrical. That simply isn’t the case. Today I filled the gas tank with barely any fuel after letting the spark plug hole sit open and the wash plug out of the exhaust to let any (what I thought) to be a flooded engine air out and try up. I put the tank back on, barely put any gas in it, and kicked over the bike. The fuel pump wizzed on!! It actually sounded not as high pitched as it used to, which made me wonder if the pump was clogged with gunk? The bike started for 3 seconds and then died on its own. Fuel pump still in a slow and deep wurrr for 6 seconds. I tried kicking the bike over again with more fuel in the tank and it wouldn’t start. I siphoned the gas out of the tank and left a small amount at the bottom of the tank. I kicked it over again and the bike fired up for 4 seconds and then died again. That slow wurrr’ing sound of the fuel pump. I tried giving it throttle the second time and died before or as I was doing it. So my guess is buy a new fuel pump OR buy a new filter. I’ve always ran at LEAST 93 in the bike. But recently I’ve been doing night riding and have quickly opted for the “eh 87 should do right?”. I’ve done that for over these past 3 weeks and now the fuel pump sounds weak. Any thoughts?
  19. Looking for feed back on a training facility idea. If you're anything like me, you get to a point in progression on the skill of your choice.. trials / race / FMX / etc.. and injury vs keeping your day job slows you down. You want to push to that next level up but cant afford the hospital bills, time off work, or time off the bike in recovery. Yet still you try and lean a little more into that whip, jump a bit further or fly faster riding the edge of disaster knowing you could do it but the consequences await and Monday morning starts again soon. I want to provide metal ramps and dirt jumps with varied distances to Air bags that simulate foam pits without the need for cranes or melted foam replacements, cleaning, fluffing, reset time etc... As well as metal ramps and dirt jumps with varied distances to landing shaped Airbags more suited to ride away from but still offering for more survivability than jumping to a packed dirt landing. Giving riders from beginner to advanced the opportunity to step to the next level of training in a much safer environment. Would you go? Would it appeal to you and where you're at as a rider today?

Hey just wondering if anyone else has had this issue with there bike and could point me in the right direction anyway starts perfect with or without the fast idle pulled out, but once it warms up completely (roughly 3 minutes of idle) it just shuts its self down you can keep it going with the throttle or by pulling the fast idle out and doesn’t throw and DTC’s or mil lights you can ride it and it’s fine not loss of power or anything along those lines but it try’s to shut down when you get off the throttle eg: going into a corner I’ve already checked good spark- hot and cold coil fuel pump and fuel filter good and clean. Air filter clean- issue still there with it in or out fuel cap and breather not blocked valve clearances in spec compression is in spec spark plug has been replaced injector clean and working perfect maf sensor cleaned
