  1. I had a moment of jackass and broke a dog off my clutch basket on my RT180 trying to break the crank nut. To my utter disappointment there are none of these available online that doesnt come without the whole engine. So what can I do? I guess I'll stitch it back together let the chips fall. Anyone ever do this? or would you?
  2. My fuel air mixture screw fell out a few months ago, I did get a new one from a shop a few months ago from Yamaha but it doesn’t fit? Any help appreciated, Going to college and need to sell.
  3. I'm attempting to set the float height on my RT180 and somethings not right. The manual says Float height: 20 ~ 22 mm (0.79 ~ 0.87 in) 1) Hold the carburetor in an upside down position. 2) Measure the distance between the mating surface of the float chamber and top of the using a gauge. Problem is the closest measurement I can get is an inch and half and thats with the float mashed against the metal. Any one have any ideas?
  4. Hi, does anyone own an RT 180? I'm in need of some help. I took the exhaust off a couple of weeks ago and will soon be putting it back on but something isnt right. It appears I must of of lost a piece or something. If anyone owns one of these could you please snap a picture of where the exhaust mounts to the frame near the gas tank? Thanks!
  5. I have a 1997 or 1998 Yamaha RT 180 and I was wondering if there were any mods I could do to get more power and a higher top speed, also... Can I put a aftermarket pipe on it All Reccomendations Appreciated!! Jared
  6. So here I come with another noob question... My RT180 has about an hour on a new top end. Its all broken in and running great, screams like a banshee. In addition to the new topend I put power reeds and one of those cone air filters on it. Im trying to set the carb on it, according to the service manual I let the engine warm up and back the air screw out 1.5 turns and then play with the throttle screw until i get it to around 1,400 rpms then adjust the air screw again. Problem is the lowest I can get it before it dies it around 2,200 rpms. Anyone have any ideas on this? It's stock jetting. Thanks!
  7. Hey y’all I picked up a running blaster quad for reallllll cheap ($100) :) I was wondering if I could swap the blaster engine in the rt180 frame and if it would work or rather it’s not worth my time All Responses Appreciated, Jared
  8. Ya know I thought my bike was running alright but it seemed to smoke a lot and go through gas kind of quick so I decided to rejet it. I'm really impressed with the difference rejetting made. I guess after installing a cone filter and Boyeson power reeds this bike needed it. I went up one on the pilot, down one on the main and raised the clip 2nd from top. This got me better throttle response, motor is anxious to get into powerband, less smoke coming from the exhaust and it doesn't seem to be such a gas hog. In this video I'm starting it for the first time after rejetting and tuning the air screw and hitting them woods. Truly amazed at how much better its riding.
  9. I recently acquired a 1998 rt180 for a Chinese bike I had and let’s just say it has a fair amount of problems. Missing air box, low compression, bent shift shaft, missing rear brake shoes, water in the carb…. I took apart the top end to see the condition of the cylinder and it was decent enough to reuse so I’m deciding to just replace the rings and see how well that fixes the compression. My question is do I need to buy specific piston rings made for the rt180 or will any 65.50mm rings work? I’m asking because it’s significantly cheaper to buy them if I can get just 65.50 rings and not rt180 std 65.50 rings.
  10. Hey guys, I am really needing some good advice here from anybody who has ever owned or rebuilt classic Yamaha 2 strokes (1989 - 1994). I live in South Africa, and bought a little farm thumper while on holiday this past weekend. It was advertised as a DT175 which is a bike that is easy to get parts for down here. It has been cosmetically customized and looks pretty darn cool... and lets face it, all the old classic Yamaha 2T engines look the same at a glance! So I genuinely thought it was a naked DT. The bike had no papers, and was used purely for the farmer to putt around on his farm. The only things needing attention was the stator cover which had snapped in half - this was visibly noticeable, and a little leak from a badly resealed gasket (both generally easy and cheap to fix here). The bike was still running and idling fine, started first kick, and I had a little ride around the farm before loading the bike up onto my pickup and heading off, thinking I could fix this thing up nicely in no time for next to nothing, and have what we call down in SA "a nuwe speelgoed" (A new plaything) for the weekends when I am not riding my beloved and reliable DRZ400SM. SO, I get home and decide to contact our local Yamaha branch, out of interest, to find out the history of the bike before I start fiddling (Don't ask me why I did not do this all before I bought the bike - It was a spur of the moment purchase, and was sold to me for dirt cheap!). I send off the VIN and engine number. Comes back, and this little freakin' turd turns out to be a 1989 TDR180!! WHAT. But now I am stuck as we do not really have TDR's down here - and I have never even seen one myself. Long story short - What alternative could I use as a stator cover? Do any other old Yamaha 2T model stator covers fit the TDR or share similar engine parts? Ordering from Ebay is so expensive thanks to my country being in junk status due to a junk president. So the shipping costs more than the actual item does, and our customs is a joke too. Yamaha has also advised me that this stator cover has been discontinued. I have put up local ads looking for parts, contacted FB 2T groups, and local shops. Nothing for TDR's has come back yet. Any advice or sharing of experience is welcome! 🙂
  11. Took the Rt180 out today and rode for a bit, I went full out and bike began to bog and sputter and wouldn’t really get very fast, I did however take it out a little while ago and it did it again but after warming up it wasn’t bogging and sputtering as much but the issue was not gone, It sometimes bogs and sputters in neutral and sometimes doesn’t Any and All Help Appreciated Jared
