  1. Hello everyone, so I have this 2 stroke PC pipe thats in pretty bad condition and rusted. I was wondering has anyone here tried electrolysis setup on a 2 stroke pipe here or does everyone use naval jelly for deep area rusting. I was thinking of setting up a electrolysis since I already have everything I would just need to buy washing soda which is like 5 in the near store. I have heard naval jelly works good too as its $5 too but electrolysis is gonna give me experience for future rusting stuff too and the washing soda can be used for many years. What do yall think? https://photos.app.goo.gl/2JT2ufPd8981NbTa7 I know this doesn't show the bend near the exhaust flange but there is ALOT more rust there
  2. Hello all! I winter-commute cross-town in my city; Uppsala, Sweden. Our city loves salting the roads in the winter. So much so that the chain and sprockets on my winter-commuter basically needs a bi-yearly replacement. It's either that, or face a chain sandwiched in three layers around the front-sprocket, much like what happened this year in early spring at rush-hour... No amount of cleaning and oiling the chain helps unfortunately. Besides, a daily wash with kerosene and re-oiling is just not practical when the thermometer shows -15 centrigrades... Flushing the chain with water daily to get rid of the salt, is obviously not a solution in winter for physical reasons (the whole effing bike freezes in an icy armour...). Replacing chains and sprockets bi-yearly is a cost that runs up fast, so even if a stainless-steel chain would be more expensive to buy, I'm thinking it'd still be cheaper in the long run if I could extend the replacement with a year or rather two. However, have you ever heard of stainless steel motorcycle chains? Or are they as rare as the fabled unicorns? Generic rusty motorcycle chain from https://pixabay.com/p-555162/?no_redirect. PS. This is no troll posting. It's a real problem for me. DS.
  3. Apologies if this has already been asked: I have a 1974 Honda scrambler and it has light rust on the spokes. It's a Honda CL125S. Is there a "best way" to clean the rust on the spokes? Any products or techniques? I'd be tempted to take either copper scrubs or fine steel wool and rub it with oil, but before I embarked on that, I thought I'd check if there was a tried and trusted way to take care of this. Thanks for any advice.
  4. So I have bought a new FMF Gnarly for my 99 yz250 and it arrived today. Upon inspection I can see plenty of rust on the inside of it, and rubbing my finger on the inside removes small black (assuming metal) fragments. Bit worried to throw it on as sucking rust etc. into my cylinder does not excite me. Should i contact the supplier (don't want to wait/pay more though), clean it myself or put it on and hope it will blow out the crap before it sucks it in ?
  5. I just pulled the rear tire off my drz-400s to replace and these nipples look pretty damn rusty. Should I replace them, or just duct tape 'em back up and call it good?
  6. Hey guys! The title says it all. I pulled the bottom end out of my YZ, and figured while that was off, I my as well pull all the axels and anything that was rusty and clean them. I didn’t think to take a before picture, but these pipes were solid rust. I thought there’s no way I’d be able to save em. THEN, the pops said “ this stuff is worth it’s weight in gold” and boy o boy, was he right. This metal rescue brand rust remover is absolutely phenomenal and I’ll never use anything else. When I say these were solid rust I mean they had flakey rust falling off them. Now look at em. I am not endorsed or payed in any way by this company. You can leave bolts or anything overnight and a brissle pad with some dawn the next morning , OR 48 hrs after and they will look this good. It’s unreal stuff and I had to share!
  7. I've got a '93 S10. At the age of 16, I love this truck and it's perfect for me. Anyways, I wasn't willing to sacrifice the bed space to get a full size diamond plate toolbox. I need that space for my dirtbike. A full sized box would also cover my tow hooks on each corner, making me unable to strap anything down. So, I took a craftsman box that my teacher gave me and bolted it in the bed. It contains all the tools I'd need in an emergency with my truck. But I've been wondering, would this box survive a rainstorm or a season change? It's painted, but the paint is chipped in some spots. The tools are cheap tools, but I don't want them to become inoperable (ratchets and such) due to rust. What's you guys' thoughts? Let me know if you think it will survive, and if you don't think it will, tell me why. Thanks! Really interested to see what everyone thinks. I'm just unsure if this will work, but I'm hoping it will??
  8. Hi all, Failed kickstarter install means I'm now doing a postmortem and engine rebuild to see just how bad the inner workings are, in addition to the giant crack in the clutch side engine case.. Working on taking the engine out right now but I'm running into an issue. Would love to remove the exhaust to make working in there a little easier but it seems to be stuck together. Bike is fairly new to me so no idea what the previous owner did to fix the pipe together but presumably it's either RTV or just rusting together. I took the header off the exhaust manifold so I wouldn't be tweaking the bolts on the top end but now I have very little leverage on the pipe itself. I guess I can always put it back on the manifold to try to twist things, but even then it didn't seem to be budging much. Last resort is to take a cutoff wheel to it and either pay someone to weld it back together or pay for a new pipe, but obviously least desirable option. Joints have been doused in liquid wrench overnight and no apparent change. I've bonked them with mallets and hammers but nothing to report. Google searching this specific problem is hard because the keywords all match other jobs like removing baffling or restrictors, no one really seem to have documented an attempt to separate a seized pipe into its constituent pieces. Not according to any search terms I found, anyway 🙂 It's my winter project so no real rush but given limited space in my workshop/shed I'd really rather work with this pipe out of the way. Doesn't seem to be any way to worm it out through the frame with that giant U-bend in the header.
