  1. I am currently completing my degree project at Autoliv in Sweden, where I will, among other things, find out what wishes/requirements the active in Enduro and Motocross have on protective equipment. Therefore, I have produced a survey on safety protection for the drivers in the relevant branches. I would appreciate if you who train or compete in any of the disciplines Enduro and Motocross answer the survey. Anyone who practices any of the branches is welcome to participate, regardless of level! The survey can be found here: https://forms.gle/gCnQLVQnsyvxoxiu8
  2. I’m a teenage girl and new to riding dirt bikes but I have previously rode atvs for fun. When I would ride the atvs I would just wear a helmet which I don’t think was the safest or the same as a dirt bike. I’m not exactly sure what is a must for riding and staying safe so I figured I would ask for some help on here. I will mostly be riding through grass or farm fields, and dirt/mud/tree trails. So far I’ve been looking at a fox v2 mips helmet and I already have a pair of gloves. I can spend some money but don’t want to be spending a fortune when I’m not that into it yet but also don’t want to be going to the hospital in the first few times I ride my bike either. I’m just looking for some advice on what is a must have and what isn’t really needed to stay safe and be comfortable when riding. Any other tips to a beginner will be helpful too! Thanks to everyone that helps!
  3. Hello everyone, I've read all over the forums how to do the safety bypass with the clutch cables to ground, but what I haven't seen is a real list of what safeties exactly this bypasses. I've heard it bypasses the clutch, and kick stand safeties but are there any others? I am switching to a clutch perch that doesn't have these connections and in general would like to ditch the whole hi-beam/turn signal assembly all together. Another thing I don't really care for is the choke at the clutch. I prefer a knob down on the carb to push in/out, looking at it I'm not sure how I could do this with the current setup, is there a specific piece I can order, does anyone have a link handy? THANKS!
  4. I cannot say enough great things about the Fort Bragg CRA California recreational association and the Dirt Bike & ATV Safety program they got going. Incredible instructors that really take the time to teach the kids the proper techniques and all the tools needed to begin this wonderful sport. They have a great training area and if your child need to use a bike or quad they have them. Sarha John and Jason keep up the great work. Check out their web page at https://www.mendocra.org/classes---trainings.html Here is a little video I took of my two sons doing the training program
  5. So I’m trying to convert my 06 TTR 230 into as much of a rat bike as possible without permanently altering it (so I can still sell it) I’m thinking about removing all the plastics, I’m wondering if removing fenders is dangerous. I ride gravel roads and open fields a lot, I’m just wondering if I’m going to: A: get coated in mud and dust B: get rocks and chunks of mud thrown at my face C: any other way that I would permanently damage my bike or any backpack or helmet I’m wearing also wondering if there’s a place to get replacement plastics that won’t cost me an arm and a leg, also is there any way to make it sound as awful as possible, like removing parts of the exhaust. thanks, just trying to stay safe
  6. I posted a new how to video on wrapping your spoke crossings with tie wire. I do this to all my rims. It makes them stronger and if you break a spoke it won't go flying off. Also this mod is required to race in the Baja races.
  7. I liked around many brands of MX gear to try to find a really good HiViz jersey and found all sorts of stuff with just a little bit of HiViz thrown into gaudy graphics. If I'm laying in the damn dirt out in the desert somewhere I want a big ass blob of HiViz color to stand out and not some small graphic on a black or multi colored jersey. Anyway I found what I needed on Amazon and it was at a damn good price and they have huge sizes to fit over the armor I wear. Sweet wicking mesh with very good reflective tape. I'm 6'4" and the 5xl is a nice lose oversize fit. http://a.co/56kv7Nx
  8. Hello everyone I am not new to the forums but this is my first time posting so here it goes, sorry if I'm not in the correct forum. I apologize for the long post but please I am just looking for support in a sport that only the people in this sport can understand and appreciate. First a little back ground on me. I have been riding for 15 years, which for the last 7 was on 05 crf450x, absolutely love this bike, can bit much for the single track but I managed it just fine with a big smile every time. I wear all the protective gear everytime, but regretfully not a neck brace. I bought a 2022 xc-w 300 for the light feel and low rpm lug. Put 5 hours and 60 miles on the bike testing the waters and learning the characteristics (which in my experiences takes as much time as it takes, always learning would be a better way to put it) but man I am in love with this bike. I was on a single track and doing a small maneuver i have done before with it except this time it whiskey throttled it into a tree leaving temporarily paralyzed for 2 mins.. it was about 15 mins before I got function of my body back, and boy the pain was hitting at that point. Nice over night at the hospital with a concussed spinal cord and a broke toe(would taken a broke arm over the concussed spine) Lots of things were went wrong that day leading up to that moment and I could list them, but you can imagine I have played it out a thousand ways in my head to understandand and learn from it. But my big question here for you all is would you fix the bike make it what you want (i know exactly what i will do to make it perfect for me after the fact unfortunately). Would you fix it and sell it get something different? Or ask the elephant in the room the bigger question "would you ever ride again??" Feels like a piece of my heart is being ripped out of my chest when I ask this particular question to my self. My parallel goal here is to raise awareness of neck safety. What what is everyones thoughts on neck braces. I appreciate any feedback
  9. just bought a 2021 Yamaha XT250 and would like to add something to make me more visible like maybe some modulators or aux. lights. Any suggestions? Thanks,
  10. Back 40 years ago, when I was road racing, Snell helmets were the best for motorcycles. But in recent times, Snell focuses on car racing, which is bad for motorcycle crashes. This video does a good job of explaining the differences. The Snell Helmet Standard is Meaningless?
  11. Just a quick real-time update. If you are familiar with this area and this subject feel free to skip this post. I was at Hungry Valley yesterday and had a nice interaction with one of the rangers (opened a gate to rescue my bike which I broke) and we got to talking. I asked about UTV/ATV's and that it seemed like more of them. "Oh yeah, I don't think they should be legal here, this is a motorcycle friendly OHV and the trails are too narrow for UTV's..." (hard agree) I asked him about accidents and there was a long pause. "I've been airlifting someone out of here on average, once per week and a lot of them are UTV/Moto collisions." That's about 50 per year and in that type of collision the moto rider loses every single time. What's my point? Be safe, there are ton of new drivers UTV folks on the trails due to the pandemic. I'm likely going to avoid HV on weekends from now on. I ride too fast to get into a header with some stupid RAZR driver blasting music and not paying attention.
  12. Hi, my boyfriend is a passionate bike racer and his birthday is on this August. When I asked him what gift he wanted for his birthday, he told me that I could gift him anything. I think he would be pleased if I gifted him anything that is related to bikes. Last month, he met with an accident and he fell down from the bike. Luckily, his life was saved. He was left with some bruises on his face. That too could have been avoided if he used any sort of safety measures. He already has a helmet, but he is lazy to wear it. When I discussed this with my best friend, she asked me to purchase custom mouthguards from Mississauga and gift him on his birthday. I think it is a good idea. Is there anybody over here who has used mouthguards before? Was it cost-worthy? Can it be worn while riding bikes?
  13. Hello everyone. This is not a question. I would like to post an idea, hoping someone might start manufacturing this. It is a frame for protecting the vulnerable back and neck in the most dangerous case when the front wheel hit a log or a boulder at high speed and the rider flies violently over the handlebars. Sorry about the pathetic drawings. There are backpacks with light aluminum frame. It is similar. The frame has to be extended and bent forward to stay above the helmet. So, the first impact hits the front bar of the frame, not the helmet. The forces would be transferred to shoulders and waist this way, not the neck. Neck should not get any significant stress. The frame should not restrict any movement, it would be hardly visible and can be worn under any other backpack. More thoughts: 1. To make sure helmet does not move much, we could have a small mechanism on the top of the frame which would work like a car’s seat belt: It would connect top of the frame to the helmet with a cord (belt) which can be locked in when you put the helmet on. The belt would allow free movements as usual, but would lock up on hard and fast jerks. 2. The frame could be extended to cover also shoulders, sides and even chest. I guess there would be like three options on the market for different preferences. The full one would be like an exoskeleton, offering nearly car’s kind of protection. It would be great to see any comments. Thanks for reading.
