  1. I recently bought a 1986 XR250R that had a broken shifter shaft. I already have the new part but i'm having some difficulty splitting the two crank cases. I have the top end completely dismantled and I was able to split the two cases about 3/4 of an inch but something is not allowing to split all the way. I haven't pulled the clutch and would prefer not to, I just need to know the simplest way to split the two cases I don't have any specialized tools or anything like that. Is it possible to pull off the flywheel to split the cases and ignore the clutch all together? Thank you in advance for any replies.
  2. Greetings. Today I've crashed on left side of my DRZ400. Gear lever was totally curved (fixed on video). Main problem: gear selector shaft pressed in (inside) engine! I can't change gear when it pressed in. If I pull it back from engine, then gearbox works correct (I can change gear). But selector shaft not fixed. What I can do? Dismount right engine crank case cover first?
  3. So I've 3d printed the crank truing stand, I'll upload that to thingiverse soon, may make some improvements first. It uses skate bearings. The crank is well within spec. maybe .04mm max at the very ends of the crankshaft. I've never trued a crank before, this is my first time measuring one even. The manual shows where to measure it. I'm curious if it's even worth the trouble to try and get it perfect, probably not obtainable. Obviously I can't smack the crank on these PLA stands
  4. Hi guys im in the process of rebuilding whole engine and am at assenbly anywat the kickstarter shaft looks to be a bit too long sticking out of the case. Compared to my 125sx also does not have a ratchet sound it works fine and I actually saw a video that leads me to believe its normal about 1/2 " of the shaft shows when the kicker is installed???? any experience out there? thx
  5. I am needing the crankshaft collar that goes on the primary drive of the crank. Yamaha has discontinued this part. 90387-2513A-00 COLLAR The previous owner put an 01 crank in my 2000 bike....not knowing I ordered the crank for a 2000 but am missing the parts to put it together. Crank is all installed already. Does anyone have this part kicking around!!!! THANKS!
  6. long story short 5th gear started making grinding noises (sounded like metal on metal). first to second was extremely difficult and notchy. bike was surging as well. decided to take apart the bike (stopped short of removing the motor and splitting the case), noticed that the countershaft sprocket was lose and that the clutch basket was making this noise. based on other youtube videos im assuming my crank shaft bearing is done? thanks in advance for any advice.
  7. Hey all. Newbie here, well at least to the forum. My sons best friend has a 1993 yz125 and he broke the shift spindle last weekend. After all the posts Ive read in the past I couldnt't think of a better place to ask if anyone knew where to find one? Thanks all!
  8. hey guys, I did a little maintenance on the bike today and now it won't move. I replaced the counter shaft seal, performed a valve adjustment, replaced the air filter and replaced the rear brakes. After this I took it for a very short ride and about one minute in I heard a clunk and the bike died while in first gear clutch pulled. I tried starting it again while in first gear and clutch pulled in, bike ran but releasing the clutch the bike would barely move forward even with the clutch lever 95 percent released. The bike rolls perfectly smooth when in neutral and runs perfect when in neutral. With the engine off and the bike in first gear, it feels like the clutch isn't disengaging. Bike is almost impossible to move forward or backward like its in gear and the clutch isn't pulled. Ive adjusted the cables as far as they will go with no luck. Im wondering if any of the work I did could have caused this?
  9. Need help with replacing the kick starter shaft I follow the instructions and videos and make sure the tab that locks the gear in place is in the little notch in the case and the spring in the shaft hole with the plastic piece and every time I go to test it out it either doesn’t work the gear keeps moving up and down or the sprint will just come out the hole. Also I made sure the gear is in the hole inside the case. And the gear doesn’t line up with the other gears. I’m assuming it’s not supposed to be lined up with the other gears until it gets kick started then it goes back down? Please help video here:
  10. Hi, here goes my first thread as well as my first post on here! Name is Matt. Been a reader for quite a while and have learned a ton from these forums. Anyways, i'm 24, and have liked motocross bikes since I was 6, my uncle was an mx rider here in the northeastern ohio and shoot mainly all over ohio (greg urban, 803, rode hondas say something if you know him lol) but ever since I was a young gun i was in love with bikes but never had one of my own, just a 90cc dinli 2 stroke quad my gramps got me in mansfield on the farm when i was about 12, lol! That thing and that farm are long gone, they didnt pay taxes and ended up gettin screwed for it, lost everything, all the toys, boats, quads, golf carts, had to sell it and move to somewhere much more affordable. My family isnt the smartest but theyre pretty cool. ANYWAYS. I am 24 now and just recently had the chance to grab a bike to work on, ive spent my live doing other things like skateboarding, going to school, working full time, moving in with a girl etc. So I just found a 1990 yz125 on offerup for 200 bucks. I was dead broke at the time paying court costs n whatnot but I pulled together 100 bucks and made a deal with the guy to pay him 50 a week for the rest, since I had practically nothing and had literally just started a new job. So he was down and we met up and I got the bike. (QUESTION: Can i post any sort of htm image codes so I can post these pics throughought the thread? Cause if so im gonna edit the heck out of this thread and make it way more organized.) I brought her home. The reason it was so cheap is because the crankshaft was seized. The piston is in good condition, the cyclinder as well, no scratching or chipping, leading me to believe the issue could be in the main crank bearing. The guy I bought it off of has been in close contact, i see him once a week or so and we talk bikes and about the parts i'll need and whatnot. So my next step is to grab my next paycheck, finish paying him and bring the engine back over, split it open with him, and see if its just the bearing or whole crank assembly. Either way, pretty stoked about the deal, and the piston and cylinder being in such great shape. Im gonna attatch the pics of the bike and the engine! The cylinder head is taken off as well as the pipe and kickstart but here she is. Any input is appreciated! This is my FIRST bike and if anyone has any pointers about working on 2 strokes this old, I would REALLY appreciate it! Thanks yall Also if anyone notices anything that I am not saying, please do say something! Or if there is anything super critical to check. I plan om getting a manual when I find one and literally checking every single thing that can be loosened and tightened on it. Matt
  11. How is the bushing pictured below supposed to fit in relation to the case surface? It almost looks like it's not pressed far enough in (sits about .5mm to the left of the case surface). Or, will it slide where it needs to be when I pull the case halves together? This is in a 2007 KX250 two stroke, got new case set from Kawasaki, old cases were cracked.
