  1. I just picked up a 2008 ttr110. It had no battery, no key, no starter, anything that was extra and wasnt needed, stripping it bare. I was popping wheelies, slipped and the bike fell. Not a bad fall, but when i got up and drove off, only neutral, first, and second gear were available. When your in second and go to shift it feels like your in forth, where you cant shift up. The bike is semi, And i need help ASAP before i overpay to get it fixed (only place near me charges 89$ an hour) or what i need to fix it. If i have to, i will open up the engine.
  2. Greetings. Today I've crashed on left side of my DRZ400. Gear lever was totally curved (fixed on video). Main problem: gear selector shaft pressed in (inside) engine! I can't change gear when it pressed in. If I pull it back from engine, then gearbox works correct (I can change gear). But selector shaft not fixed. What I can do? Dismount right engine crank case cover first?
  3. Hello all! Looking for anyone whos experienced similar issues or might be able to lead me in the proper direction! I have a 2008 YZ450F the crank went bad so I have done a bottom end rebuild including crank and all bearings. I tested the tranny bench shifting it before resealing the cases. By manipulating the shift forks while turning the shift drum by hand I was able to get the bike to shift into all gears though it was difficult at some times but I assumed it was because the case was apart and I was trying to shift all by hand but again it shifted every gear. So I got the cases all buttoned up and reinstalled the shift shaft and was able to click into one gear or so before it jammed up? I have checked the roller stopper lever and everything I can see seems to be all in order. However the shift lever on the shift cam is not returning back to its “resting position”(ready to shift in another gear) and I cannot get it to shift either direction no matter how much I spin the shaft around trying to get it to click in a gear or shift nothing happens. The shift lever will move almost halfway inbetween gears in one direction but will not move the other way at all. Its as if the shift cam will not rotate and spin the shift drum like something is binding it up. The tranny shafts still spin freely though so no gears are stuck. Im just confused at the fact the bike shifted fine before rebuild and shifted through all the gears when rotating the shift drum and manipulating the forks by hand but will not do anything now that the cases are re sealed. Any help is greatly appreciated.
  4. Hey guys, Last time I rode my engine started making a loud ticking noise and losing power. Today I'm gonna drain the oil and take a look at the valves and the top end. I figured if I'm draining the oil I might as well make sure my shift drum bolt is in the right place and torqued properly. Only thing is I'm mechanically inexperienced and I can't find any good guides on how to get to the shift drum bolt, anyone have step by step instructions? I'm scared I won't put the bike back together properly.... I heard there were some detailed posts on the maximum suzuki forums but I don't have access yet as my registration is pending approval. Thanks guys, -Zamboni
  5. I just got my 2008 Honda 420 es and in neutral it is making a grinding, rattling noise that increases in volume with increased RPM seems to run really smooth other wise . Runs and drives great and shifts fine which makes me believe that the transmission and Top end of the motor must be functioning properly. If anyone has any ideas of what it may be or if you have had a similar problem please help me out. Thanks
  6. Hello. Newbie here to the community. My buddy bought a 2014 suzuki rmz450 a few weeks ago and we took to the trails this past weekend. Well it ended a few hours after we started with him having no 3rd gear and eventually it would slide the rear tire when third gear was selected. I tore it down and found the shift drum broken and the shift fork beat up pretty good. Also most dogs have pretty good wear on them. Anyone know if this is a common problem or if there are updated parts to prevent future failures? I did some searching and found info about the hammerhead +10 shifter and detent springs, but nothing like this. Thanks in advance. I'll attach pictures.
  7. Hi, this is my first post on TT! I recently traded my PS4 for a 1998 KX250 with a "broken shift lever" the bike was unable to start due to it being freezing cold and stuck in gear. The reason the shift lever was broke was because the splines were completely worn. So right away, I bought a new shift lever. The old one was a bitch to get off as he had snapped the end of the bolt off to tighten the lever to the shift shaft. I ended up using a pickle fork to pry it off. Bit anyway. After putting on a nice, new shift lever, I was ready to get it running, only to unable to get it into neutral. Which wasn't really an issue. I figured I'd just bump start it. After several attempts, it didn't start, but I got it into neutral. After getting it into neutral, I couldn't get it back into gear. It just clicks about 7 times up or down and nothing happens. Now, I am able to get it in and out of gear, but only by clicking it randomly up and down so many times. I have no idea what gear it's going into, and it has no pattern. I already have the bike mostly tore apart. I plan on splitting the cases, I am just curious if someone can help me diagnose the issue, before I split the cases. Possibly worn shift forks?

    2008 ttr 110

Hi everyone. Looking at a first bike for my daughter. Ran across this 110, looking to get a very good deal due to the issues. I can wrench most anything myself. How do you feel about the comments? For Sale: i have a 2008 ttr-110 for sale. has electric start, decent tires, pro taper high bars, and a two brothers exhaust. just finished up a rebuild on it. everything in the bottom end was in spec. bored .50 over, new piston and rings, gaskets. valves were adjusted. the bad it shifts into neutral and first gear and runs perfect, but for some reason it wont hit 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. if i adjust the clutch a different way it will go into 1st and 2nd but not neutral. im not sure what the issue is exactly. The guy states he was just in the bottom end.. I would say he's sounds capable of fixing the issue himself, but found out many problems. Just figure'd I would post and get your thoughts on this. Thanks!!
  9. Hi! When I shift into first gear, it does not always engage and when it doesn't, I need to push a little bit up to make it engage. It's the same thing with the fifth gear but I need to push a little bit down... My question is: could it be a fork? This fork could it be responsible for the first and fifth gear? Could it be a spring or something? My last question: could it be the gear oil?
  10. update of previous thread: prior to removing the cases on my bike, i was having issues with shifting to first from second (notchy) and a grinding noise in fifth. after inspecting the clutch and putting the bike back together and changing out the oil (tons of metal shaving in the oil screen) i can no longer shift into first, and the grinding noise in fifth still persists. I tried some of the investigation techniques suggested to no avail, so i think im at the point where the motor will need to be removed and split. anyone have any final or last minute suggestions before i send it off to the shop for a rebuild? thanks in advance for your responses.
  11. Prior to reassembling the case, I tested the shifting and it seems the center fork attached to the shaft seems to stick at the steepest section of the drum. I have cleaned and tested all forks and surfaces for smooth movement, tried it with silicone and oil. With very little help, it seems to shift ok, but without the help, it binds. Can I assume that once it is together the oil lines are attached and oil is added to the case, the binding will stop? I have tested every scenario short of assembling the entire motor. Should I be able to successfully test the shifting with the case apart?
  12. Hi I have side to side play in my shift shaft. Is it normal and what could be the source of the problem?
  13. I was in first gear and my left grip slipped off and caused me to give it gas and go over on the left side of the bike on hard pack ground. It forced the shift lever up really high and now its stuck in 1st gear. I can get it to go in to 2nd about 50% of the time with a really hard shift but barely into third. If i shift down all the way its in 1st gear, and then when i do a full shift up it goes into neutral. I can ride up in 1st and it rides fine so the trans isn't locked up or anything. Something's definitely wrong but i don't know what, shift forks maybe? Can somebody please point me in the right direction of what's wrong and if it's something worth trying to do myself. Also does the case need to be split? please help. 1995 husqvarna 250 (2 stroke)
  14. So long story short I went and replaced the Kickstarter shaft that was broken. I put everything back together and made sure the clutch push rod was aligned but now it’s stuck in gear I can’t move the bike and it won’t change gears it just only goes down but no click that it changed gears and it doesn’t go up. Bike shifted fine and everything before I went into the clutch side to change the kick starter shaft
  15. The bike ran great the first few days i had it. Took it on some ORV trails and ended up getting it stuck in about a foot of mud and when i hopped off the bike i lost my footing and it leaned into the mud on its right side. After pulling it out of the mud it still shifted fine but when i would give the bike throttle it didn't seem to move much and took way longer to get up to speed, even if i was revving it hard. When i shut the bike off and started it back up i could no longer get the bike to move. Sometimes i can get it to shift into first but if i let out the clutch i feel it move the tiniest bit but then nothing happens. So the bike is in first with clutch out and giving throttle does nothing. It shifts back into neutral fine. When the bike is off it sounds like it is able to shift fine and feels like its shifting. But when the bike is running shifting into first only works 1/10 tries. Last night i managed the shift it into first and when i let out the clutch the bike was pulling itself forward at like 1 mph but still, throttle does nothing. Was not expecting to have a problem like this with a 2018 bike with only 400 miles on it. My current plan is to take the right side cover off and look at the shift arm and drum. I'm not sure what else to do. Any feedback is massively appreciated.
  16. Hey all. Newbie here, well at least to the forum. My sons best friend has a 1993 yz125 and he broke the shift spindle last weekend. After all the posts Ive read in the past I couldnt't think of a better place to ask if anyone knew where to find one? Thanks all!
  17. Hey guys, While riding this weekend my bike started giving me a new noise I've never heard before. Any time that there is an initial onset of engine braking i.e. when I down shift, coast and let off the clutch, or let off the gas without using clutch, I get a sort of squeak from the engine. It doesn't last but is just a quick squeak. I honestly have no idea what it is because I have never heard it before. Maybe its time for clutch plates or a basket? I would really appreciate some input on this. If it is of any significance the bike is a 2008 KTM 250f. The best thing I can relate this sound to is a car with a squeaky suspension. Although its not my suspension, it's definitely something else. I can provide more info if anyone thinks it will help. Thanks, Mark.
  18. Bought a atc200s. For some reason the gears are all down. So down is up. My brain short circuits every time I shift this thing. Is there a way to reverse the shift pattern? Bought it as a little toy to play on when I don’t want to bust out a big bike, but this shifting makes me want to leave it in the garage.
  19. My DRZ has been very slowly becoming harder and harder to shift into neutral. Sometimes it just won't. I shift all the way down to first, and try to half upshift into neutral, and it's like i'm pulling my foot up on a solid object. I just cannot get it to upshift no matter what. When i'm rolling it seems to shift easy, but stopped is a NO GO. I just did a fresh oil change today. (Somebody said an oil change fixed his no-go neutral bike). Can somebody please help me out here? Give me some ideas maybe from 'Probable the issue' to 'could possibly be'. And i'll go down the list and try to get this solved. Thanks in advance peeps.
  20. Hello All This is my first post. I am very much into my bikes but not on a racing level or anything. Lots of practice days... random outings in the woods... Weekend warrior type stuff . feel free to skip to the very last sentance for my actual question as to some of you guys the in between bits might just be waffle. Also, i have searched for an answer to this with some limited result. So... the big end bearing went while i was doing a poxy rolling burnout, or it was already well gone but this is what finished it off. I have already replaced the crank with one that has a new Conrod and all the trimmings (big end bearing). Going back in time now, when i was stripping the engine i did the clutch side first including the primary gear and whatnot, then when going around to the flyweel side i pulled on the flywheel and was stunned when the entire crank shifted. There is no up or down / wobble movement in the crank but it very easily shifts side to side by about half an inch, now i dont know if this was the case BEFORE removing the primary gear and all that stuff but i am baffled. As it stands, i have the new crank in and the crankcases closed back up and bolted shut with nothing else installed, just crank and crankcases... it still shifts side to side, another note is that it literally just falls into the bearing, as in there was no need to pull it into the bearing, heat up the case, freeze the bearing.. nothing... new crank came, i pretty much chucked it at the right case and it slid rite in to its seat. nice and snug... but slips in easy. To me this is very unusual, cranks normally need to be set into the bearing in one way or another so my question is: Is it normal for the crank in these bikes to have sideways play WHEN the primary gear is off of the motor? Thanks guys.
  21. HELP! After a bike theft, my bike was recovered and totaled out by the insurance company. There were some shifting issues so I let it sit for a while. After getting in the case I saw the the bolt holding the shift roller had some loose. I tightened up the bolt and put in a new clutch and springs for good measure. Now, when I am in neutral and rev the engine (gently), the thing tries to jump into gear. EDIT: I dug back into the bike. The shift roller is not in alignment with which gear the bike is in. The lever should be on a different lobe when the bike is in neutral, but it is on the 3rd gear lobe. Looks like I need to look at the transmission.
