  1. Hi! Im new here. I bought a kx 125 2003. It ran ok untill i changed my main jet from 450 to 420. I started my bike and it again ran ok for few seconds but then i saw it started smoking hella lot. It runs ok high rpm's (still smokes a lot) but when i let it idle for few seconds and give it gas it starts bogging and spits oil out of muffler and smokes so so so mutch! The bogging lasts like 5 seconds and then it starts really reving. I also saw it spitting oil out of the brather. The smoke is super blue. All the jets are in and not fallen out. Im sorry, english is not my main language.
  2. Hey again, thanks all for helping me get my bike back in order but I might need some more advice. I recently re-did the top end, valves, cam swap etc. and after I got it revived it was smoking on cold starts but stops smoking when the engine gets at operating temp. It's not a TON of smoke, but it is embarrassing when I'm leaving work or a friends house and I have to smoke out the neighborhood before I ride off. My experience with this in the past is oil in the combustion chamber burning. My guess is the piston rings need to be replaced, or it needs a complete bore job. My question is: What are the tolerances for stock rings VS needing to do a bore job? I'm still riding right now until I can get the $ to buy new gaskets and rings and whatever else it may need, so I don't have the diameter of my cylinder or piston at the moment. (Secondary thought: When it did not smoke, prior to top end rebuild, it had very old and viscous oil. When I did the rebuild I did an oil change with fresh oil. Could the thinness of the new oil be enough to seep past the piston rings when the viscous oil wouldn't? Could adding an "oil stabilizer" increase the viscosity and stop the smoking without replacing the rings? Is adding an "oil stabilizer" a bad thing for these bikes; would the extra viscosity overheat the oil because it can't flow properly; could any additives affect the interior of the engine? I'm leaning toward experimenting by thickening the oil first before I spend a chunk of change on rings and gaskets and possibly a bore job.)
  3. OK here goes... Picked up an 04 200 EXC few months back, needed some work to say the least, wont go into detail of all the things i've fixed on the bike just the current and most present issue I cant seem to fix... it is smoking IE blue smoke/lots of splooge to the point that at the end of a few hour's ride, it's out the tail pipe, running down the back and dripping onto the swing arm/rear break caliper and blue smoking quite a bit. When I first got it, it smoked more and smelled like shit. So first things first went to the carb, I live on the Oregon coast (elevation/temp reference) it's old dirty/stained but inside looks good, came with jetting pilot-45, main-178 needle: no idea what brand guessing stock in the 3rd clip, adjusted the float height due to it leaking gas when bike was upright no tilt with the gas on, Bought JD jet kit and running pilot-45, Main-185 and Needle is blue 3rd clip (JD's recommend specs for my bike @ my attitude). I have also replaced my Inner crankcase seal twice (First time I thought I messed up the O-ring so redid to make sure). I've rebuilt the top end/new piston (same thing) cleaned the PV, NOTE HERE that the PV has some issues, it seems to work fine but the screw that goes on top of the cylinder, down into the PV/flap would not come out preventing me from removing the flap to clean it, however it move's/ function's correctly, and has minimum clearance on both sides. One of the PV cover bolts that also works at the exhaust spring holder, was over torqued at some point (impact driver prob), or a result in a hard impact, the hole the bolt goes into is flailed/jared open a bit, not bad, not in the way of any function/ PV Gearing/hinge, it is not needed for that area to be air tight as their is also a breather that goes out of the PV so will not result in an "air leak" or loss in Top end PSI.... anyway... it's still smoking.... quite a bit.. now the bike itself rides fine I feel, the carb does puke gas when tilted over slightly/ hard to start (kick start) after flooded (like all bikes tho) I don't have any stalling/low idle issues outside of user error on clutch control. Honestly outside of it smoking as much as it does I would think nothing is wrong with it.. I have also tried raising the needle Clip to 2nd clip and it changed nothing at all, not even feel of the bike/response and have a new Spark plug I have yet to put on the bike. I have also "compromised" the crankcase Gasket (new one in the mail) while I was putting the Crankcase back on but that should do nothing with the exhaust just a little gear oil leak not relevant but throwing it out there. So I am at a loss... I've been toying with the idea of getting a Lectron carb... However... would hate to drop $400~$500 and the issue still persist, if it's a jetting/carb/float issue that would fix it and improve MPH/fuel consumption Or something with the PV? but I don't see the PV causing that much smoke/sploogee... I've ridden the bike normally/hard and nothing's happened but I don't want to keep pushing it and possibly clip the bike. Any ideas? "Oh help me 2 stroke community you're my only hope"
  4. Hey there, there are a few problems I’m having with my beta, I’m hoping they pertain to carb issues, but they may not. The problems are: The bike when revved up comes down to idle very slowly & bounces its way down It gets hot (I’m 225 LBS, mainly trail riding and it has overheated a few times) Excessive smoking ( this may just be a beta thing with the oil injection) Here is a video smoking and weird running condition & below that is a history of what it’s done and some steps I’ve taken to correct it. Float position: https://photos.app.goo.gl/pigvQYgRwfx7Cdud6 Excessive smoke https://photos.app.goo.gl/DSVMnvPgVWerhbig8 Surging and not returning to idle: https://photos.app.goo.gl/z7X4tsiSeZdjurK99 https://photos.app.goo.gl/B8pNyKVhzz74f5Cc8 I purchased the bike new but it was a dealers show model and had been ridden quite a bit. I think the bike has about 57 hrs on it with the original piston. With the stock jetting it ran fine for a while, and then about 5 rides in, it started to kill when I wasn’t on the gas. Around that same time I noticed it starting to overheat. I bought a JD kit to help solve the problem. I put the appropriate jet in and started with the blue needle in the lowest setting as per the instructions. I ended up on the mid clip setting on the blue needle and that seemed to work the best with the fuel screw most of the way out, 3.5 turns. It still does the slow deceleration and surges on the way down. I have also: changed the head O-rings, using fresh, ethanol free gas, adjusted the carb float level, changed the plug a while ago, I can try that again though it’s been a while. I suspect it needs a richer pilot jet, because it sounds hot and acts hot, and most of my riding is below 1/3 throttle. The jet it currently has is the stock pilot jet. Any help would be surely appreciated.
  5. So I have an 07 cr 125 fouling plugs before the bike even has a chance to warm up, plugs come out wet and oily on the tip. had both crank seals replaced last season because my main drive side seal blew. While it was split I had a new crank put in, we noticed my cylinder plating was pooched so I sent my cylinder off to be re-plated, put a new piston in the shiny new looking cylinder put the old warped head back on and called it a day. then rode it all season having absolutely no idea about the warped head because I overlooked it when I was excited to put my bike back together and ride. Its now winter, snows on the ground. I recently went to go for a put and fouled a plug before I could get to the end of the street and back. I was also smelling coolant so checked the rad while running the bike, lots of movement and tiny bubbes. Pulled the head off and sure enough it was warped to the point where I could rock it back amd fourth on the mirror and see a small gap... so NOW after I replaced the head my problems persisted and I can still see little bubbles swirling around vigorously in the rad if I rev it with the cap off, I've had boiled it down to my cylinder probably being warped then I found a leaky hose by the exhaust that was dripping coolant onto the outside of the exhaust port. Which brings me to what I think may be an incredibly stupid question, could it just be the loose hose sucking in air that is causing my rad fluid to have small bubbles in it? And maybe im just experiencing increadibly rich jetting now that my head is actually sealed properly? over and out.
  6. Hey all, Hoping to catch a little advice. Recently purchased an 86 xr250. Was pretty rough to look at when I got it, but got it at a decent price. Bike sat for years under a tarp and had mold etc all over it. However with a carb kit, oild change and a little gas it fired right up. After going through almost the whole bike since then, I have finally gotten to ride it. Only issue is...it smokes. Now it only smokes when its cold to mid temp. At operating temp, it still smokes a bit, but not bad. When cold, it smokes quite badly. But it does not smoke at idle or real low rpms(or very little smoke). When its cold or warm I run it up through the gears and its pretty darn bad. After a couple miles it almost completely goes away. Temporary solution has just been to tell my buddies, ill be in the rear until the first stop, then whatever after that. Trail riding today, trail is about a mile from my house. Bike hardly smokes through town because we keep the rpms low in town, ride a mile, as soon as I got tobthe trail the cloud begins. 007 smoke cloud. By the time we hit the first intersection, a couple miles of tight, steep, switchbacking trail, its still smoking, but just hardly noticeable. My buddy says he only notices it when I get on it hard and then back off it quick. Bike has a good amount of power for a 250 (I think, I'm used to larger bikes) and I can ride right along in the trails with the bigger bikes. Talking with the local Honda dealer, guy has been in business for as long as I can remember, he says without looking at it, he speculates valve seals. Now a valve seal job is quick and I will probably do it since I need to replace the valve cover gasket. (Starting a weep a bit) and a couple of rounded off bolts as well. I just replaced the timing chain, and everything inside the clutch cover and on top of the head is immaculate. Not any thing that suggests abuse or running out of oil. What I'm curious about. 1. Do you all think seals are the issue here? Or the only issue? 2. If I'm going to tear it down, do I just bite the bullet and oversize the bore and throw a new piston in as well? I do have access to affordable engine work. One of my riding buddy's dad owns a machine shop. Basically cover his costs, favor for a favor type of deal. But I don't want the bike down for long in prime riding season. 3. How likely is it that the valve guides are worn out? Or the valves themselves. I'm sorry for the long winded post. Just wanted to explain my situation as best as I could.
  7. So I’ve had this bike for awhile, always run good, it’s got 30k but was rebuilt less than 1k miles ago, it had a real slow leak of oil on the side of the engine, and someone is coming to trade me a Honda Grom for it, the bike runs amazing so I never bothered to do anything about the leak as it’s very very slow, not even enough to drip you’ll just occasionally see a little stream of oil on the case when you stop the bike. I decided to change the oil a little while ago and I decided to add stopleak as well to see if it would help, I added the stop leak without checking the oil because I assumed it was lower from the leak, after adding the stopleak the engine smoked? Could I have overfilled it, would that even make the engine smoke?
  8. I have a 2002 ktm400 exc runs great as of now never had any issues however its smoking a bit. So it only happens when revved while idleing on the stand. Its white/gray smoke. And right after you rev it there is a small delay and then the smokes comes out. Does it when warm too but not as much and more of a rev is needed. Nothing too crazy, doesnt smell like oil, bike doesnt use oil, at least not that i know of. But the amount of smoke is a bit more then i think would be normal. So what could be the cause? Is it just unburnt fuel maybe? I had the carb recently gone over by a Ktm guru. Everthing seems fine. Also this is not new either. Its been doing it a while but i only started noticeing it now as i let my bike warm up on the stand more instead of just slowly hitting the trails. Its done it before when i would be in neutral and just wack the throttle. Also would happen sometimes(when i notice) if the bike stalls on a really slow trail and when it starts up again a bit of smoke. so seems like its not an engine issue to me but any help or possibly causes would be appreciated thanks
  9. Hey Guys. I have a Honda XR 250r 1999 that i have just rebuilt. I got the piston and barrel done in a shop along with the valves. The bike is running well but has a issue with burning oil. The decompression valve on the engine was jammed but we managed to free it up but the bike has lacked compression since it was freed. I have no issue starting the bike but would a broken/stuck decompression valve be a reason behind the burning of the oil and lack of compression? I started with a synthetic oil but was advised to use a mineral so did a oil change and now have 20w-50 mineral in the bike but have seen no change.
  10. I have a dilemma, question or whatever. I'm looking for help. I have a freshly rebuilt 2000 YZ250 (maybe 1 hour on the rebuild). This sounds funny to say but the bike runs good, starts fairly easily. Smokes a ton when I come off of a rev or WOT. I'm talking a lot of smoke. Here is a video of what I'm talking about: https://youtube.com/shorts/CE-sWTZ2jx4?feature=share It's running a 66.35 piston (100 over). Brand new FMF pipe. Turbine Core silencer. New top end seals and gaskets. New crank seal on the oil side as well. 32:1 Castor 927/non ethanol 92. It was running stock jetting 50 pilot/175 main. Needle is on the 3rd clip. Running a new NGK BR8EG. It doesn't burn coolant nor smell like it's burning it. When I drained the engine oil it appeared that the correct amount came out, I didn't actually measure the volume. The first new plug that was in it was black. I'm at approximately 400' in elevation. I changed the pilot circuit jet to see if that would help and lowered it to a 45. It currently has the 45 in it but still smokes way too much. Should I lean out the fuel to 40:1 or 50:1? Should I continue messing with the jetting? Any help would be appreciated. I already tried searching with zero results so either didn't enter the correct keywords or 🤷🏼‍♂️
