  1. Hey Guys, I just purchased a 2016 YZ250FX not too long ago, and before I bought it, I had no intentions on converting it into a dual-sport. Now, after riding alot of the trails behind my house, I'm finding myself pretty limited on trail exploration and wanting to drive on some pavement in order to find other cool stuff to go riding on.... I'm wondering whether selling my bike for a dual-sport such as the WR250F/WR450F or Converting my existing YZ250FX using a conversion kit and whatever else you need is the better idea? My area has some pretty rough terrain and some steep rocky hills that im going to need to throw at the bike. Any advice would be appreciated!
  2. Hey everyone, I recently came across this 2006 dr 650 with 12k miles and was looking for some input about the bike and if everything looks and sounds right. I wasnt sure if this is the right sub to post in so mods feel free to move it. Im coming from an 04 yzf250 and was looking for a larger trail bike that i could also commute to work on (15-20 miles). Im 6' 190. I realize that this bike is very different from my 250 but after watching numerous videos and reading an ungodly amount of forum posts and articles this seems to fit the bill for what im looking for. If anybody has any suggestions, prior experience with a 650 thumper or tips let me know! Thanks Video :
  3. Hi! I got a killer deal on a 1985 XL350R last fall and rode it around a bit, bought the gasket/seal kit for the entire engine, it was seeping oil. With the unscheduled free time I currently have I decided to tackle that project. Things are going smooth all except for this... when I opened the crank case up there was a tiny metal “cup” just sitting in the bottom (circled where it was sitting on the photo). I cannot for the life of me find where it goes, I’ve scoured the web for photos, looked at parts exploded view diagrams and spoke with a couple of the guys at the local motorcycle shop. I found one spot (Also marked on photo) that it’ll fit but photos of this side of the crank case online seem to show the hole (in the case wall between piston rod and timing chain) being open and unobstructed. Please help!! I’m still waiting on some parts in the mail (things shipping slow these days) but I’d like to start getting this thing out back together!! thanks!
  4. Hi I am new at this site, have few question bought the Kit 557071 Baja desings squadron sports and dont know how connect this kit on my dirt bike(450x 2012), i already blow 1 kit because it says plugh & play but the Bd is DC and i connect it to AC :S, I have installed on my dirt bike trail tech regulator and stator https://www.trailtech.net/media/wysiwyg/pdf/010-ELV-63.pdf I see on the regulator theres a red cable that says Note: Connecting your stock lighting to switched DC power will operate the lights without the use of an on/off switch. The lights will turn on and shut off with the motor operation Do i need to connect the Bdesing to that connection ? Already test the red cable on other led lights and it work but really dont know, the output watts
  5. Hello all! My name is Miles and I need some help gauging what to expect for condition/"reliability" you could say, of my DRZ400E for cross country travel! I am looking into traveling the Trans America Trail. I'm from Rhode Island and found an alternate rout where I can start on the West border of Connecticut. Ending in Colorado, to Nevada, then California; and cruising something along the lines of RT66 back. [just for reference, don't mean to ramble] The Machine: 2003 DRZ400-E ~6k miles total - 5k lightly ridden, never seen dirt - 0.8k %100 hard off road [past year] Frequent Oil changes, Air Filter changes {I ride with the guy I purchased it from nearly daily. He was good about maintenance on the regular, but also pushe the bike in the woods just as much!} Front and Rear Suspension rebuilt, carburetor rebuilt all last year Stock everything except FMF power bomb header and exhaust muffler, and Vapor Trail Tech, lights + fork socks Expected Maintenance: Top End Rebuild, Timing, Valves adjusted [Have not done compression test, but i would expect new top to be necessary] obvious things such as Brake Pads, Fluids, Chain/Sprockets, Tries, Heavy Tubes From this information, And Any You Can Think Of To Ask, does this DRZ have potential for the Trans America Trail; a ~6'000 dirt, then ~4,000 road return trip?! Or would I be better off selling it for a newer model? Thanks! -Miles
  6. I am doing a stunt build on a 2015 DR200s I don’t wanna use the drum brake tbh I don’t trust it and it’s not working to well when at balance point (I tighten it and it just locks up or won’t go where it needs too plus I’m doing a handbrake in the future for seat standers.) I need to know what swing arm will fit the dr200, I think the dr250 swing arm will fit and it also allocates for disc brake because the 250 uses disc, If I am right this conversion will cost me 650, ( not including hand brake. ) I wanna do this because I’ve never seen a stunted DR200s and I wanna be unique. I have the cash to do this I just don’t wanna buy the parts and then be out 650, I wanna buy it all at one time. (Handbrake after I get good with the foot brake after conversion) please and thank you all for the help. I just need to make sure before I buy, if not what will fit?
  7. Looking to get 17" front and rear Supermoto rims for my 2005 CR85RB. I was just going to get the rims and spokes and lace them up to the stock hubs, does anyone know what width and where I could buy the rims/spokes. Thanks
  8. I'm looking for the best reliable atv for trail riding, the main thing I'm looking for is extremely low maintinance and I'm looking for the sport style atv, not the utility styled atvs. Don't really care about engine size just care that the quad fits me at 6'1, and won't get boring. Also looking for good reliability along with the low maintinance.
  9. Recently acquired a new to me 2006 low mileage SM and other than the Kenda K671 ST Cruiser 140/70 rear tire (and the Outlaw petcock rebuild kit I just installed,) it seems to be stock. At the most performance wise it might see a pipe & 3x3 w jetting kit in the future. I think I have read most of the SM tire threads using search posted here from 2006 to 2014, haven't found any newer, so I thought I would bring up the issue. While my location has me near awesome mountain twisties, and some of that will definitely happen, but the vast majority of riding will be commuting and two lane back road day trips to AL, SC, NC & TN. I am also 59 yo and don't like contributing to the state/county/muni governments through their law enforcement collection agency's. I am leaning toward the Pirelli Angel GT tires (sport touring) w/ rear being 150/70-17 as they should last a very, very long time on such a light bike, and work well in the summer thunderstorms I am sure to encounter. Thoughts? Do you prefer finding a 140/70 to stay stock on rear, or find 150/60 and 150/70 to be either better or acceptable? Is the kenda 671 worth keeping on the rear until its worn? Still has the dunlop 208 on the front, and while its not worn out, its far beyond its use by date any further, given its age. I have read previously many preferring Michelin pilot road and pilot power 2ctcombos (soft sport on front and harder sport touring on rear) Is that still the hot ticket? (or Power RS / Road 2/3/4/5) Between my cr250r and wr250r I have off road covered, so the SM at worst might see gravel or a forest service road on the rare occasion. Hope to put lots of state 2 lane highway miles on it, and as little as possible 4 lane I-xx miles. I only THOUGHT my Yamaha wr250r stock seat was uncomfortable... until I started putting miles on the SM. Sheesh. What have ya'll done? seat concepts, fisher, sargent? Thanks for any input you can contribute.
  10. long time lurker but first post and figured theres no better place to ask than here. my wife is looking for a new sport style quad. for the last 2 years shes been riding a polaris trailblazer 250 2 stroke thats a auto cvt trans and its been great but it belongs to my sister (quad lives with me though lol). she likes the automatic polaris but dosent like the poor handling and how heavy it is (460lbs!) and the thing rides like a frickin brick! im a dirtbike guy so when it comes to recommending a quad for her im not sure. shes never used a clutch before or actually shifted gears with her foot but is willing to learn. we ride mostly at a local orv park that has some sand pits and nice trails. so what do i buy her? my buddy i ride dirt bikes with also has a quad so it would be nice if i got her a quad that i could rip as well. i have it somewhat narrowed down to honda 250ex with the rekluse style “sport clutch”, 300ex, 400ex, suzuki quadsport z250 with rekluse style “sport clutch”. she wants something to ride with us and deck out her own way. all are cheap and easy to come by were im at. thanks for any imput and suggestions!
  11. We have a walk around of the all new Can-am sport XRC model. New to the market for rock crawling and desert trail fun. Check it out and let me know what you think.
  12. I was looking at purchasing a late model DRZ400 because of price. But came across a 2017 450 EXC-F in my price range. My concern is it has some high hours. About 110 hours over 3000 miles. Any issues I should be concerned with? How much would a top end rebuild cost? How hard would it be to do a rebuild myself? How long does a 450 run before needing a rebuild? Does the drz have any any advantages over the ktm? Will a drz need a top end rebuild too?
