  1. I am stuck in between a newer XR650L and an older XR650R. From my research the R is better due to aluminum frame, water cooled, and power(I can live with the kickstart). I’ve found some plated R’s on the Craigslist from 01,07 years but concerned about trying registering in my name and finding its not street legal anymore because California rules are weird and hearing other older plated bikes are losing plates if someone could provide clarity it would be appreciated. DMV says it needs a emissions sticker but the information isn’t clear.
  2. So I recently acquired this 1986 xr600r in non-running condition on the good ol' craigslist. I managed to get it running (it helps when a decade's worth of varnish is cleaned from the carbs) and she purrs like a kitten. It's titled and street legal here in Washington. I'm just trying to pin down a fair value for the bike, so any input or comment is appreciated. Thanks.
  3. I am in the process of street legalizing my yz250f and am currently looking around for tires either street or dual sport tires, I was hoping someone could help me find stick sized tires that are mainly for the street but if know of any dual sport tires that would work too! Thankyou!

  6. Hey guys, curious if anyone has had any success or knowledge on making a 2010 suzuki rmz 250 street legal. I know that the stator has an output of 40W, and from my understanding all thats needed in my state is really a headlight and a taillight.
  7. Hey all, I'm looking at buying a 2004 Suzuki DRZ400EK or at least I think it's an EK according to Vin lookup websites, but it does not appear to have a kickstarter. I was told the bike was owned by a motorcycle dealer and that it has a current green sticker, and a California license plate but has not been registered for the streets since 2011. I want this as a dual sport but am not clear if the fact that it already has a plate means I am good to register it or if maybe they took away the ability to register it after it was plated, California loves to do that kind of stuff. Since the bike was owned by a dealer I would think they were up on the latest regulations in California, but who knows. Can anyone add any insight as to what I should look for on the bike itself like the carburetor, model numbers etc? Or do I just try my luck at the DMV?

Hi all; So I've seen this topic a few times on TT but not alot of recent info; below is a craigslist link of someone who is definitely working the system and I wanted to see what paths are available to do the same. https://cnj.craigslist.org/mcy/d/2001-kawazaki-kx250-nj-street/6557844943.html From what I read the trick is to title and plate the bike in another state (Vermont was usually the one mentioned) and then just transfer the street title at the NJ MVC, then cross your fingers and hope the friendly, well spoken and educated people behind the desk there don't catch on. So I was wondering if anyone has tried this and if so is it as simple as it sounds? For example would you need DOT approved tires and stickers on the bike in the pictures you send to the Vermont DMV and any legal info about titling the bike in Vermont Also do you need a Vermont address? My main goal is just to have a registered bike so if I were ever caught in the Pines "trespassing" the police couldn't impound my bike ( 2000 yz250 if that has any bearing on this process) As for street riding; it would just be with my buds out in the sticks and in between corn fields, so I don't plan on interacting with police very much and if so its's usually the I know a guy that knows a guy situation Thanks for the tips and help
  9. Hi all, Looking at an '09 FE570; it's a long way from me but it's what I'm looking for & I'm willing to travel for it. Having a tough time determining if it's an 'S' model (street legal from the factory). In Georgia, it has to be deemed as such from the factory or the DMV folks won't even think about it. Running the VIN, it only shows as an FE570, no other designation. I know that my 2016 Husky FE350 is an 's', but the 2017's all got the 's' designation dropped because ALL offload Husky FE's are now street-legal. Anyone got any guidance? First time Husky / Berg owner here...thanks in advance!

So I've been reading up on the whole crack-down on "off-road use only" bikes being taken off the roads because they lack federal certification labels that ensure that they comply with all of the standards for road use motorcycles. I'm looking at a 1986 Husky wr400 and it looks to have all of the externals that would make it street legal but I'm fully aware that that doesn't mean it's street legal. I live in Wisconsin and we have very strict motorcycle laws so any bike must have the proper labels. My question is simple, did any of these older enduros come with these labels? Is there any online literature that specify which bikes have these labels because I'm looking for an older enduro to title. Thanks.

Hey fellow riders, i'm not sure if im posting this in the right spot but i am trying to blue plate my 2007 Honda crf230f in Ontario, i'm wondering if its even possible and if it is how would i do it?   14. Good afternoon, I'm looking to get my 1998 Honda Xr400 street legal in California for me and my father but I am very confused on how to. I have been told that anything made before 2004 can still obtain a plate in California, but I have also heard the reverse of this. Can anyone from California please let me know or pm me if its a possibility to get it legal for the street. And if so what street kits do you guys recommend? Thank you for your time!

  16. I just bought my first bike and it is a 93 XR600R that has had some adventures but has been maintained very well as far as I can tell. I will be commuting around town on it as well as riding it to trails and fire roads in the area so I have been doing a street legal conversion. Once I mounted everything on my bars they are so cluttered and it is driving me insane! Sorry for not having a picture yet but here are all of the mounts on the bars right now: Right side: throttle front brake lever on/off switch for lights (tusk) bracket for handguard w/ blinker (tusk) Left side: grip clutch lever bracket for handguard with blinker (tusk) light control switch (tusk) kill switch (OEM) mirror After noticing this I have paid more attention to my friends bikes and it seems there are a lot of options for configurations and I am at a loss for how to go about cleaning up my bars. I would love to see pictures of everyone's cockpit (street legal or not, though street legal is of most interest to me) and hear about how you have gone about streamlining your controls or just cleaning up your setup.

  18. Hey guys, i live in Ontario Canada. I have a 16 RR 250 Race Edition. It is green plated (offroad) i would like to swap it to blue plated (street legal). I have a few questions. I know the 250-300RR's and Xtrainers are street legal here. Have two friends with them legal. But both had them original plated blue when bought new. Mine was plated green from new. I have mixed stories about you can and cannot do it. Some say once its green you cant go blue. I came across this: "I've heard and read many people say that you can not switch back to blue once you switch to green plates and offroad only (brown) ownership. THIS IS NOT TRUE. what you need to switch back: -safety inspection - affidavit describing the bike (color, motor size, safety features etc) signed by a lawyer or guarantor - picture of the "compliance sticker" which I learned is the sticker by your VIN (on the front forks for 230l) which just says that the bike was manufactured for the road and is DUAL PURPOSE. -OR if you have no sticker than you need a letter from MANUFACTURER not the dealer, stating that the bike was made for dual purpose.MTO made it clear that dealer and manufacturer are two different entities. don't know how that works with a honda...but compliance sticker is the easier Way to do it." This matches up with what i have heard from a few people. So my questions are, is the Race edition even streetable like the standard RR and I looked all over my bike and cant find the compliance sticker. Just the vin etched into the frame on the neck. If i must contact Beta does anyone have any contact info for Beta itself, not a dealer? I would love to change over to blue, i miss out on some rides do to having to ride connecting roads between trails. Thanks

  21. Hey guys, I was wondering what is typically needed to make a dirt bike street legal in New York State? The bike is a 2002 Suzuki DR-Z250. I've seen videos where people do it for "any dirt bike," so I have some questions. Here are a few things I would like info on Turn signals, front and rear Headlight/Hi-Lo beam Brake/Tail light Speedometer Tires Horn PAPERWORK!! I am unsure about a few of these (turn signals and brake light) because I thought hand signals were sufficient. So which of these are mandatory, and what kinds of forms should I fill out to make everything legal? I won't be going on the highway, just back roads to school and back. Thanks!

Alright so I'm having about the same problem with my 06 drZ 250 recently rebuilt her after 5 years sitting in a barn and now want to get it on the road but the problem I'm having is I'm in ny and it didn't come for factory with lights and turn signals I bought the tusk street legal kit for it and now I've been calling DMV in ny and there telling me it's impossible to get a on the road title for it bc the old one says not for highway use so now I'm thinking since we have po box in Maine bc we lisence trailers up there and they mail use a plate is it possible I can get it done up there and what r there requirements ??
  23. So I have a 2008 yz450f and I would like to add some LED lights to it to make it street legal. Mainly just a headlight and a tail light and turn signals if I need to (which where I live hand signals work). So where I need help is getting power from the stator to a battery. Wiring from a battery to anything else I got and understand and don't need help with (but recommendations are welcome). So my questions are. What type of power is coming from the stator. AC or DC? Will I need a regulator or rectifier? How do I wire something from the stator to charge a battery? What would that wiring look like? Would this stator http://www.rickystator.com/product/stators/yamaha/yamaha-yz450f-35-watt-lighting-stator-assembly-06-09 work? Anything else I should know? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
