  1. New to the forum. Long time observer. Highly entertained and educated by you long time contributors. Thanks and Cheers! I recently acquired a 2009 DRZ400S. Very nice bike with deferred maintenance. As I am cleaning and upgrading to current maintenance and adding other gimmicks, I noticed a sticker on the trailing arm that reads "Watson Suspension" - see attached photo. I am confused becasue I have never hear, nor could I Google enough, to find info of a suspension company by this name. I'm not the most experienced mc guy, and not the dumbest, but I am not sure where the sticker cam from. Thanks in advance for your help. PS - Take it easy on me if I've missed something.
  2. I own dual sports because of the convenience of riding to the trails. Because I live in California I own a Suzuki DRZ 400 and DR 350 because they are the cheapest options in this dual sport restrictive state. I want to buy a beta 390 rr simply because I would like a lighter more peppy bike, however, I find it difficult to justify the 10 grand. The reason is not just because 10 grand is a lot of money, but two of the guys I often ride with own KTM 500 exc. We never race the track but often ride mountain fire trails and narrow trails with occasional steep climbs. My bikes with the typical carb and exhaust mods will go everywhere their bikes go and just as fast, and sometimes they can keep up with me. When I ride the KTM's I find the vibration of the engine and stock suspension bouncing me around wares me out as fast as throwing around the weight of the DR's. Because the KTM's have so much power I ride them with the throttle one quarter to half open on the dirt trails, anything more will throw you off the trail, for the DR's, half to wide open brings the same thrill. Often I am more than happy to switch back to my old DR's after putting miles on the KTM's. Is something wrong with me to not enjoy modern technology like others do, or do I just need to spend more time on a lighter more powerful bike to really learn to appreciate what they offer. I want the Beta, I'm just not sure if its worth it. Has anyone with similar experience resolved this?
  3. Before i start, apologies for placing this in the general section. Im just after some info pretty sharpish before i go ahead an do something that may be daft! So...dropped and E engine into lots of water and killed it. Now need a new engine. I more or less know about the differences in SM and E engines. And with SM being the cheaper option i was thinking buy one of these and put some parts out of my E into it. The main problem which i cant find much info out about is thus.. Plumbing - I know the SM models have a fan. And different rad outlets to the E. And mainly that the SM models has a temp sensor instead of an outlet on the left hand rad among a couple of other differences. If i place a SM engine in my E. Am i able to plumb it up into the E rads and system, or are the inlets/outlets and coolant patterns on the SM engine different ? Other than that would anyone foresee any other issues ? I would assume swapping the cams, sprockets and carb would make it more or less the same ? Does changing the gaskets for higher compression really make that much of a difference ? Any help on the matter would be greatly appreciated as im after picking up a donor engine on the weekend Muchos, muchos.
  4. Anyone know what could cause this leak on the left side of the bike by the shifter believe it’s coming from the crankcase. I was told the gasket could be bad causing oil to be pushed out at that bolt. Any other ideas or anyone else have this problem? I bought the gasket but haven’t installed it yet.
  5. Hello, I am new to thumpertalk. I bought a used drz 400 a month ago. A week ago my bike didn't start anymore. The battery was empty, so I recharged it but the same thing happened again 2 days later. So I bought a new battery because I thought the old one was bad. The same thing happened again with the new battery. So I looked on thumbertalk for any solutions. It seems that the battery doesn't get charged when the bike is running. After checking the battery with a multimeter I get only 12,4 volt on my battery even if the motor is on and I am going up to 3000rpm. There are a few things that could be damaged or faulty. The adapter connecting the cables to the battery could be corroded. I checked for that but it seems to be fine. I looked at the fuse but there doesn't seem to be any damage. The rectifier was tested with a multimeter and it seems to be ok too. The only thing that is left is the stator and after checking with the multimeter it seems to be the problem since I don't get the same readings for the 3 different pins. So I removed the stator from my bike but after inspecting it it seems to be ok. No coils are burnt (or at least it seems like the stator is in a good condition). I made a couple of photos for you to see it for yourself. I don't have much experiences with these kind of things so I am not sure if I should I replace it or not or if the problem is somewhere else. Any help would be welcome. Thanks for your replies.
