  1. Hello, Has anyone ever rebuilt their EXC-F 450 (2016-2019) using SX-f 450 piston, head, ecu? on a part number check, even the main bearings and rod are the same but the piston and valves are different. I'm building my EXC for a six day long rally raid event so a road registered bike is a requirement. 6 speed is a massive positive (and can be built into an SX-F motor). But the power and delivery of the lower comp EXC motor compared to an SX-f is a little "boring" for big sand dunes (and I cant afford a Rally Replica ). I only expect to build it and run it for the 50hrs during the rally before swapping out the piston as per the SX-f Service schedule. I'm open to any other suggestions of piston/remap/ideas to make the EXC engine more lively
  2. (Hey guys, I just joined Thumpertalk-I usually find answers on here but never actually joined until now. (If this is in the wrong place feel free to move the thread)) So after getting back into motocross after about 10 years, I bought a 2016 KTM 250sxf. I did the first oil change tonight and I didn't have anything to measure out the oil. I was using the sight glass on the side. So with the triangle stand, the oil level was half-way full in the glass, and completely full when I put it on the box stand. I added the new oil so that it read the same. (Half full/triangle stand; Full/boxstand). Now I'm reading on here, and it seems that people have different ideas on where it should read on the glass sight. 1. Should it be this full? 2. It's midnight in my apt complex so I haven't started it yet-will the readings be different/more accurate warmed up? 3. Free thoughts on topic/risks of too much oil ? Thanks guys, I just wanted some input from more knowledgeable people than me
  3. Recently got an 07 ktm 450 sx-f. I ride woods trails only and might have bit off more than i can chew with this bike. I'm 5'9 and only 125 lbs soaking wet maybe 140 with gear. So my question is what can I do to make the power more manageable? Recently tried to hit a hill climb and, even with a bald ass rear tire, I flipped it clear up over my head lmfao. Already has a 5th gear conversion. Would a fly wheel Weight help any. Tia. And keep on thumping.
  4. My FE bike is super lean, has been since I got it. I've adjusted the TPS to get a bit more fuel, but it's not really making much impact up top. I also have some break up at WOT and it has trouble hitting the rev limiter. (this is newer) I'm going to check fuel filters, and clean the throttle body as it might have some air filter oil or something in there. I've removed the screen thats mid way in the Akropovic can and gone to a screenless filter cage, but otherwise she's stock. I tried a vortex ECU mapped by PR2 but it was so rich it was burning 3x the gas in a ride, i returned the ECU. This all leads me to think I have a FI, or sensor issue potentially? I have no fear of finding an interface cable and making changes to the ECU, but don't know the route to go to get one. Any ideas, experiences, feedback? Thanks
  5. I'm caught between a rock and a hard place. My 2010 KTM 250 XC won't stop peeing coolant out of the overflow tube. I've used 3 different radiator caps (two of the oem 1.8 bar caps and one CV4 2.0 bar) and it still continues to pee coolant as soon as the bike starts up. I just recently bought and installed brand new radiators [GPI on eBay for $88 (the seem fine just the welds are a bit crappy and you can see inside of the tubes where the metal from the welds drooped down but there are no blocks)] and silicone hoses (profactory hoses) thinking they were the problem since the old radiators were bent in like bananas. To my dismay that was apparently not the issue. I've had everything apart and looked at. Has brand new base gaskets, head gaskets, radiators, and radiator hoses. I've bled the radiators like the manual says and there are no bubbles like air leaking into the system or being in the system. The jetting is also perfect. The only thing I haven't changed out is the oem impeller in the water pump but it looks to be in great condition. Any ideas on how I can fix this problem before it gets worse? Also, has anyone else had this problem and figured out how to fix it? I ride it in mostly tight 0-10 mph trails and also some 10-20 mph trails.
  6. Hello. So i recently put my motorcycle back together and it worked great : started easy, rode really good and everything was bueno. The next day i go to start the motorcycle and it didnt start no matter what.... The bike is 2010 ktm 450 sxf, it has no kickstart, i also tried to bump start it, then it made a different noise like somethign was happening, but i didnt manage to start it. i have checked the spark plug(new), cleaned the carburetor, checked all the wiring, looked at the torque limiter, replaced the battery... what else should i do? how can this happen overnight ? i didnt change any setting after my first ride. Any ideas would be appreciated.
  7. The can on my 06 525 exc looked horrible (scratched and tarnished) and the end cap had been modified and sparky removed. Created quite the "tumble" effect in the end section of the can. Had plenty of bottom end but would not rev out at all. Just went flat on the big end. I already jetted it up which helped some but still wouldn't even get close to approaching the rev limiter. Not that I want to bounce off the limiter but when I tried to open it up on the straights, I had to short shift it to keep it climbing in speed. So on a whim (couldn't find hard proof), I picked up a 2012 450 sx-f can off of flea bay for cheap with free shipping. I msg the seller and got some "rough" dimensions but I lucked out. It bolted right up. Fit tighter on the header pipe than the factory can but I'm guessing the original was just whooped from being so old. Bike will pull the to the limiter no problem now and never goes flat on top. Very quiet idle and cruise but if I get into the throttle aggressively under load, its quite a bit louder but not obnoxious loud. Just need to add a sparky and I'm all set. Just an FYI for others out there with older EXC that don't want to drop a lotta cash on a slip on. I payed $80 free shipping.
  8. Guys, Pulled the bike out of storage and runs, but is acting up a little. 1. Hard to start 2. Won't idle without choke until it's very warm. 3. Throttle lingers on release - so RPMS stay up. And if I adjust the idle higher, this becomes VERY noticable. 4. Lurching forward slightly. I figure it's time to clean the carb. Now, I've done carb cleans on Honda's, but this is my first KTM. Anyone have any how-to videos (Model specific). Searching YouTube and it looks like nobody has done one for this specific model... or least none that I can find. Any tips are greatly appreciated.
  9. 2008 ktm 450sxf I recently ruined my head, valves, piston, clyinder, the whole shabang. So the best option at this point is an engine swap. My ? Is, what other ktm engines will bolt up on my frame? The original engine is very expensive and not all that available. I dont race so it doesn't necessarily have to be a 450. I am open to all avenues and thanks in advance.
