  1. Rebuilt my 2016 sxf450 for some rounded dogs and a bent selector fork on 5th. While apart added 6th speed to the box. transmission all works perfect but have managed to build in an engine fault. Fault: Revs build slowly, almost choked past 1/2 revs but progressively as if restricted. engine is down on power but otherwise behaves normal, start idle and low rpm no real complaints. Immediately on release of throttle engine cuts to idle - quicker than any bike I've ever worked on, but then idles fine. No strange noises, knocking, ratling or grinding... definitely some resistance in there directly related to rpm So far I've: Checked and rechecked the valve clearance. Cleaned the injector Replaced inline fuel filter No air leaks in intake Swapped to another bikes fuel tank (+pump) Advanced and retarded the timing 1 tooth either way(3 positions checked) flipped the crank 180 degrees to the cam timing. Swapped out the barrel and piston - no change Had the ecu in another bike I inspected all the components and measured IAW manual during rebuild - only 50 hrs since main bearings, conrod where replaced. Engine doesn't drag on clutch, clutch disengages and bike freewheels correct in gear. Plug out engine turns by hand as expected... Still need to measure oil pressure, if the gallery was blocked could cause excess drag at higher rpm but don't have the tool. Any ideas of what I've F'd up?!
  2. they just announce the first position, i am interested to read their december issue .
  3. Just wondering if we are being misled with the tps calibration procedure on the Get app with current array of videos on YouTube. The GET manual actually suggests to wind the idle set screw out 7 turns so that the throttle is at absolute zero then calibrate then reset the idle screw. This puts the min value below the raw which actually makes more sense. Tip for sxf owners you can pin the brown wire and black white wire in the service plug to power the bike without running it.
  4. Just bought a used 2017 Husqvarna FC450. It's my 1st EFI bike so I'm hoping someone can help me out with this issue. After starting the bike cold and idling for about a minute or two, it blows a puff of blue smoke from the exhaust pipe if I roll the throttle. It also does this if I stop to talk to a riding buddy on a trail or on the side of the track, let it idle, and then start out on track again. After revving it once the blue smoke is gone but riding buds have told me they smell and occasionally see a puff of blue smoke when following me - not a constant stream just a puff and then it's gone for a while. I'm talking to myself over trying to locate the cause of this as a leak-down test shows no issue. Bike history Bought used with 70 hours on it. Original owner had an FMF header and tailpipe on it which he kept. He sold it to me with the stock pipe. He never had it remapped for the FMF pipe Started it's life in Atlanta GA Now mostly ridden at sea level He told me he used mineral-based 10w-40 Yamalube oil. The manual calls for 10w-50 Ester-based synthetic - which the bike is now running. This is what I've tried so far: Leak-down test produced only a 3-5% loss. No bubbles in the coolant with the cap off No air leak at the exhaust pipe No leak at intake Barely, barely noticeable hiss when I remove the oil fill cap - but again not enough to lose any more than 5% pressure during the leak-down test. Wouldn't matter but checked the valve clearances while the valve cover was off. They were in spec. No loss of power No milky engine oil from a coolant leak No loss of engine oil as seen at the engine oil level window - never needed to add oil between changes Talked to someone who builds motors for a living and he said "all KTM/Husqvarna's do it especially when cold because the EFI delivers more fuel on startup as opposed to running at operating temperature". I guess I can see that but why does the bike blow blue smoke at operating temperature then if I pull off the trail or track for 1 minute to ask one of my riding buds something? I'm not letting it idle for minutes at a time. 1-2 minutes tops. Is this just normal for KTM/Husqvarna/4-stoke racing bikes?? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Former bikes where 2-strokes (CR250, RM125) and a 1993 DR350 which I could've let idle for 20 minutes an not seen blue smoke - but that was a carbed bike. I've always known if a 4-stroke is smoking blue it's burning oil and you shouldn't keep riding it. So I'm a bit concerned about whipping it around the track or taking it out a few miles on trails.
  5. Question regarding 2017 sxf450 Manual has the following info regarding spring rates Spring rate (SX‐F US) Weight of rider: 65... 75 kg (143... 165 lb.) 42 N/mm (240 lb/in) Weight of rider: 75... 85 kg (165... 187 lb.) 45 N/mm (257 lb/in) Weight of rider: 85... 95 kg (187... 209 lb.) 48 N/mm (274 lb/in) makes sense. I believe stock is the 45N/mm; claim is bike is setup for 165-187lb rider oem parts list has the following info SPRING 260 36 N/MM SPRING 247 39 N/MM SPRING 247 42 N/MM SPRING 247 45 N/MM SPRING 247 48 N/MM SPRING 252 51 N/MM Is there any significance to the numbers (260, 247 and 252)? What do they mean? I get the 36, 39, 42.... But I don't understand the 260,247, 252.
  6. I am thinking of buying a van for motocross touring (try different MX and Enduro track in summer) . furthermore i am planing to go to Spain for a 2 week Motocross touring as well . and in general i am an easygoing camper which wanna park the car beside the roads/beaches/... and enjoy the nature i have looked at small-medium size vans , something like Ford Transit !? are these cars roomy enough for what i want !? or i need a bigger vans !? and in general what equipment should i buy and install in the van !? or what equipment should i carry with me ?
  7. today we have 30°F(-1°C) i check my fork air pressure and in both leg it was 30.5 psi . my last presure check 1 day ago when the themp was around 50°F(10°C) was 34psi . the first thought was that i have lost air , but i done more search and i underestand that during winter or when it get colder sir become condence in the fork and we can have a decrease in air presure . now my main question is that , what happen if i set my air presure to 34 now and next day we get 40-50 °F !? will i damage my air fork valving or ... !? what about going in MX track and during the practice the air presure inside the fork rising up !? should i keep my fork air pressure low in the winter !?
  8. it seems they have totally different opinion that the other shoot outs . you can read the full article here : i like the way they described each bike http://www.motorcycle.com/shoot-outs/2018-450cc-motocross-shootout
  9. New to me sxf450. Is this from moisture getting in engine?
  10. I'm new to KTM's. Just bought a used 2011 SXF 450. It sounds different than other bikes I've had int he past. I just want to make sure there isn't anything out of the ordinary... peace of mind, really. The sound I'm hearing is more significant on the right side of the bike. There is no knocking or ticking from what I can tell, just a noisier engine then I'm used to. I hear KTM's have a thinner engine case, so maybe that's why. I also hear the timing chain tensioner tends to be an issue with these bikes. Please take a listen to the video and let me know what you think. Thanks!
