  1. Anyone switch from a 450 to a 2017 or newer TC250 or 250SX? I have a 08 CRF450 I like a lot but since the new Husky/KTM redesign in 2017 I have been thinking of making the switch back to 2 strokes. I am 37 with 2 kids and mainly ride at practice tracks and maybe one race a year...so I dont ride competitive but love ripping on tracks. So I was looking for some feedback/input from anyone who rode a new Husky/KTM.
  2. Let me start off saying I LOVE my 08 CRF450. It performs close to flawless...is in like new condition...zero complaints. So no real reason to replace it. With all the updates to the new Husky TC250 and KTM 250SX I am considering making the switch back to 2strokes. Just trying to gauge if I am just hyping myself up a bit over the new 2strokes or if it is worth considerong selling the 450 and picking up a new TC250. I mainly just ride on practice tracks for fun. I dont race serious and may run 1-2 per year. Just want to get some thoughts or if anyone already switched to a new 2stroke. I know it's a bit easy to hype yourself up when you want something.
  3. Done over 20 hours track time on my 2017 TC250 now and rate it very highly, now the tracks are getting far too dry so started riding woods more. Initial thoughts are that i'm in 1st gear where friends are in 2nd (for hillclimbs and tighter sections), this could because they are running 18" rear wheels but would be good to see what gearing options other people are running. Suspension is obviously very hard coming from sand tracks so thinking i'll go for around 141psi in forks and click everything right back on the shock, dont know if its worth changing sag as I am small as hell and gets pretty awkward trying to get feet down at times! Has anyone put a map switch in the crimp connection under tank and noticed a difference? Basically any mods or changes anyone would recommend would be appreciated! Thanks!
  4. Hey my rear hub on my back wheel has exploded into pieces. I was wondering if theres any other makes I can swap on ie whole wheel. Thanks
  5. I have a 2021 kx450 and I am having really bad rear end swap over any braking bumps, acceleration bumps, and square edge bumps. The guys I ride with have told me my rear end is all over the place. Recently my rear end kicked hard left off the lip of a 3rd gear jump and sent me for a wild ride that I was lucky to walk away from with some scrapes and a little soreness. It doesn't kick up into my butt at all, just goes left to right. I'm always gripping super tight with my feet and legs trying to keep the bike center on acceleration or braking because it really is always a problem. I feel like it seems to be to the left first most of the time. (Not sure if that matters) The bike is in excellent shape. All maintenance done. No slack in the suspension, bearings, wheels etc. The bike is well maintained. I am a fast, aggressive, vet rider, 175 pounds. I am running the stock suspension settings other than forks up 2.5mm in clamps and +15ml oil in each of the front forks to help with bottoming. (another issue, hard bottoming forks) Suspension settings are: (mostly stock) Forks; rebound out 12, compression out 14, forks up 2.5 mm (stock, flush to top), oil level 325ml (stock, 310ml), tire pressure 13 psi Shock; rebound out 12, High-Speed 1.25 turns out, low-speed 18 out, sag 105, tire pressure 13 psi. I recently tried a 1/4 turn out on High-speed to soften the rear a little and maybe absorb more of the bumps but it actually made it worse. Which tends to make me think that I might be having packing issues. I am thinking I have a few options to try. 1. I could try stiffening the rear high and/or low speed compression. Maybe I'm blowing through the stroke due to being too soft and causing packing. Would that make sense if I find the front soft also? Maybe the rear is too soft too? 2. I can go out on the rebound dampening allowing the wheel to return faster potentially helping with the packing. 3. I can send my suspension away to have it revalved to be stiffer. If there is a fast rider that can comment on this option it would be appreciated. I feel like I am fairly decent rider and I ride with some fast guys but I am limited in my experience. All the guys I ride with won't ride my bike because it's too soft. I bottom out a lot, and hard sometimes. I over and under shoot jumps all the time. The thing is, it doesn't bother me other than how hard I bottom. It hurts the wrists and ankles. I am healthy, fit and strong and I feel like I can take harder landings if my suspension were up to it. Can stiffer suspension overall be the solution to this problem? Any comments here would be helpful. Thanks
  6. couple months back on my way home from a 2 hour ride my bike lost compression and quit. lucky I was just by my driveway. pushed it back and immediately checked the spark plug and cylinder temps with a temp gun. all seamed fine. pulled reads and pipe. everything looked fine but no compression. pulled the head and found the top of the piston trashed from metal flying around. chunk went down beside the piston and scored the cylinder. bike had 59 hours and 2048km on it. pulled the motor and took it to the dealer for them to decide what happened. chunks of metal looks like bearing cage material but no play or evidence of anything wrong. the ktm tech found a bunch more chunks of metal in the bottom end but could not find out where It came from. ktm ended up paying for a new head, cylinder, piston, crankshaft and power valve along with all the associated gaskets, bearings and oil seals. total for parts was around 2900$ Cdn. I had to pay Labour as they couldn't find the source. Labour ended up being 730$ Cdn. motor is back and running great. I was happy with the result as it was 7 months out of warranty having never been back to the dealer with over 2000 km on it. here are pictures of the top end damage
  7. I picked up my first Husky on Thursday. I rode a 2017 TC last Sunday and decided that was an expensive ride as I had to have one afterwards. I am a die hard two stroke guy, former local pro (motocross), and am coming off of a 125sx, which I plan on keeping. What I am curious about is what you 2017+ TC250 owners are finding you like/dislike. I like a hard hitting bike, so I will be playing with that as this motor is strong, but mellow. My other concern is the AER48. This is my first experience with an air fork. So far my intended mod list is as follows: Pro Circuit Works pipe and R-304 V-Force 4 reeds Revalve Suspension (potentially a spring conversion if necessary too) Shiny parts as they apply. I intend on keeping the bike for a while so I dont mind spending a little to tune it to my needs. I am also wondering who you guys like to go through for parts, I am finding alot of places limited on what they carry for this particular model. Thanks!
  8. Hey All, I just picked up this 2005 TC250, I haven't gotten it in dirt yet...but I'm pretty happy with it. I bought it from I really nice guy outside LA and he had 4 Huskys in his garage. The bike has pretty low hours, he bought it from the original owner who hardly rode it, and the current owner's kids only rode it a couple times before they moved on from riding. I own a 2016 CRF250R that I'm going to have to put away when red sticker season is over...so I needed a green sticker bike and this Husky is going to do just fine I'm betting. I started it this morning stone cold...pulled the choke and gave two twists on the throttle and fired up within about 0.5 seconds after pushing the starter. After riding it in the neighborhood streets for a few it seems soft on the bottom but comes alive mid to top and pulled good. I'm not expecting it to be like my EFI 250R...but I was pleasantly surprised how well it did. Just need to get it dirty now. It has the original tires that I'm replacing, a new battery and the previous owner checked the valves before selling it and they were still in spec. I was a tad thrown off seeing a decompression lever on an electric start only bike, but I guess they don't take it off if you don't get the kickstarter option. Can't wait to hit the trail with it!
