  1. I'm interested in a Honda XR250 that I've found on craigslist. The guy that is selling it has it listed that the time tensioner is not set and its not fully put together. I'm new with the bikes and wanted to know if that is a big deal or if it is easily fixable, if so then how do i fix that? I want to make sure I will be able to get the bike up and running for my use.
  2. I recently purchased a 2010 KX250F from a friend of mine that had been sitting in his garage for about 5 years. The bike seemed to be in decent shape and the price was right so i picked it up. I went through most of the bike before riding it (air filter, oil, greased all the bearings, adjusted suspension, changed all the fluids, etc) The valves sounded a bit loose so i decided to have a "Buddy of mine" adjust the valves. I get the bike back, go for a ride and the cam chain tensioner falls out while i was riding, luckily i caught it very soon after it happened and it never jumped timing. I put the tensioner back in and continue to ride the rest of the day. as the day goes on the valves sound much looser than they were originally before the adjustment was done, I decided to call it a day and tear the bike down myself. I shim the loose valves and button the bike back up, but now the thing sounds god awful. Straight up clacking coming from the right side of the top end. Since then ive probably had the bike apart and back together 4 or 5 times trying to figure out the problem. Its not the auto decompression valve, every valve is in spec, timing is solid, and the cam chain tensioner is working fine. I'm stumped. anyone have any thoughts?
  3. Okay so I had my thumpstar up for sale on gumtree and it sold fairly quick. The same day the person who bought it calls and said it’s stopped working and is falling apart, I was Nice enough to refund their money but am now stuck with a bike that has stripped and gone through 3 kickstarters in a month, I am embarrassed to even try and sell my bike again as I’m scared the same thing will happen again. In the bikes defence the kick starters were cheap Chinese crap ($10 from eBay) but my mechanic said even the bad ones should last at least a couple months. I now bought a more solid one hoping this problem will stop, the shaft itself is still in good condition so I don’t know why it’s doing this, could I be bolting it on wrong or are there any tips to make it less likely to strip? Also they came back and told me that the chain guide (roller) thing popped off, and it done it a couple times for me aswell, how can I get it to stay on the bloody bike!? Thanks for listening to my rant the
  4. Good day! I recently picked up a new, 2019 DRZ400SE in stock form. After doing a little research about common upgrades and farkles, I've found a lot of owners replace the automatic cam chain tensioner with a manual due to premature wear of the cam chain. I wasn't sure if Suzuki had rectified this issue by now and wanted to see what y'all thought about changing it out while it's still under warranty. Any tips would be appreciated. Fair winds and following seas.
  5. I own a coleman ctu200-ex and recently the chain broke and destroyed the mounting area for the chain tensioner bolt. The chain tensioner bolt for the rear left side of the bike I can no longer tighten down because the top metal piece has broken off, any advice? Picture below is the tensioner in question, it is still in one piece.
  6. Hey everyone, I purchased a cam chain tensioner cap http://www.ebay.com/itm/-/182609975758? for my 2005 DR-Z 400 E the problem is that my cam tensioner is differtent to any others I've seen. It doesn't ratchet and the cap sits inside the shaft. Please see pics any ideas???
  7. Help please! 2011 XR650L 20,000km I decided to replace rings, piston and hone cylinder due to some markings on skirt. after putting all back together as manual said I cannot get bike to start. It rolls slow and seems to slow on rollover during compression cycle. Checked spark, then put a bit of fuel in cylinder directly. No luck. marked timing chain to the tooth it was on, market sprocket bolt to bolt hole. Kept chain installed on bottom sprocket whole time of rebuild by pulling tension up with mechanics wire. we watched video on chain tensioner re install and did with zip tie method, it was difficult but appeared to go like video said. any ideas please?? Could it be too much tension on timing chain due to it maybe not being positioned perfect?
  8. Hey All, I recently got a new to me 2016 Husqvarna 701 Enduro. The first thing I did was order a Dirt Tricks Cam Chain Tensioner because I noticed once warmed up mine got noisy and seeing as there was so many positive reviews and many people saying how well it worked. Now I know there is already a ton of forums on the noisy cam chain in 701/690 family but I needed to ask myself. Once installed I noticed an immediate difference on startup (Big Improvement) the engine ran quite and smooth as it should. But after the bike had gotten up to operating temperature you could hear the cam chain rattling again just as before with the stock hydraulic tensioner. Has anyone experienced this with their dirt tricks tensioner or know why it wouldn't keep things quite once warmed up? Any insight on what to do would be great! Thanks!
  9. Checking my valve clearances and trying to take out the cam chain tensioner. Seems the frame blocks the removal, if I just unscrew the unit as a whole, bring it out to give slack, can I then just screw it back in or do I need to reset the tensioner? Anyone have a way to get this out without removing the head?

    DR650 Chain tensioner

Hey everyone, I'm new to the community and I'm excited to be here. I have a question about my 1995 DR650. Recently the timing chain tensioner on my father's DRZ400 failed and caused some issues within the engine. People recommended he switch to a manual tensioner and that's what he did. My question is, should I consider doing the same thing on my DR650? I know it's not the same type of tensioner but I would rather be safe than sorry. Thanks!
  11. So I was adjusting my chain tension and messed up the left side sliding part with the notches. I don't know what it is called and couldn't find it as part of the swing arm assembly diagram. Also couldn't seem to find it for sale anywhere (though not knowing what it is called I can't really search for it very well). Now I can't really loosen the axle nut all the way (nor tighten it) because the broken side just spins (see picture for reference). Is there a tool to hold that nut so that I can get it off? Also anyone know what it is called and where to buy a new part? Thanks for the help!
  12. So about 3 months ago I bought a bike off a couple of kids(07’ CRF250R) and the bike sounded like the cam chain was rattling around since I bought it, the kid said he replaced the tensioner after he had to rebuild the Piston (don’t really know the back story there but yeah, kid did a number on her) I thought at first “eh, they probably just didn’t install the tensioner right and that’s not a bad fix..” I personally like the manual ones anyway! So I tore it apart, cleaned it, greased what needed to be and thread lock on anything the spec says I can! Ended up finding a broken fiber plate on the clutch stack and A SHIT TONE of metal shavings out of both sides of the engine (see pictures below for the collection I’ve accumulated) Well even after I swapped out my tensioner (with a TokyoMods Manual Tensioner) it still sounds like the chain is slapping the case like it owes it money.. any ideas on what it could be? Ask away and I will do my best to answer!
