  1. Hey all, just finished up a CRF450 fork swap on my 95 xr600 and wanted to share my results and build with everybody in case anybody is looking to do this and needs some inspiration. This is my second xr600 in my 23 years and I love these pigs. Project started when I traded an xr120 build of mine for a project 02 crf450 kx500 swap that was complete but needed a frame repair. Sent it to a conversion specialist and after 5 months of waiting and 500 bucks he told me he couldn't fix the frame and I was frustrated so I cancelled the build. Had no luck liquidating the chassis so decided I wanted those forks on the 600 rather then let them lay. Not wanting to pay almost 200 bucks for a conversion stem, I disassembled both front ends and hit the crf triples and XR steering stem with a micrometer and ordered myself some bushings to fit the XR stem in crf triples. It was really as simple as that. Pressed bushings into both crf triples and "machined" lower bushing to retain press fit of the steering stem. I also took a 9/16 tap and threaded the existing hole in the stem on the bottom end, that way I could throw a retainer bolt with a large flat washer in to hold the stem in the lower triple in case my press fit were loosen up and fail. Finished that with new stem bearings and races and turned out pretty nice! Less the crf forks, I only have about 25 bucks in the swap as I ordered 4 of both bushings in case I had to use some trial and error. This method required to modifications to OEM parts on either bike it can all be switched right back. I am sure there are better ways to go about swap, but I'm just a young snot nosed punk and I'm pleased with my results and wished share. If anybody would like the bushing diameters or wishes to critique my method please feel free.
  2. I have a 2013 DR650SE, with heavy springs and intimidators because I ride to the trails and do a lot of off road, I have decided to do the USD forks. Luckily, I already have a set of 2004 WR450R 48mm forks and Triple Trees. I plan to keep the front end as close to the DR as possible by using the DR wheel. Since I have not seen anyone convert the original hub to a 20mm axle I figured I would try. Stem: I purchased the All Ball bearing conversion set for this. Will use a spacer or Press DR stem onto YZ bottom clamp Wheel: I ordered some 20mm x 35mm x 9mm wheel bearings to replace the 17mm x 35mm x 10mm. Fairing/mounting: I purchased a set of DRZ light brackets to mount everything. Will customize mounts for Ignition Switch and Dash.... Brake: I also ordered a 270mm Rotor bracket for the YZ forks and a 270mm rotor. DR Caliper mounts to the forks. My main issues will be rotor and wheel spacing. As I work through this I plan to post pictures of the build to assist others. I would prefer to keep the stock speedometer and thought about swapping the speedometer assembly box with the DRZ since it is 20mm. I know I could machine a top hat for the DR axle and that will be plan B if I cannot make it work on the YZ 20mm axle. If you have one I would buy it 🤪 Plan C, will be use a YZ front wheel and get a digital speedometer. Obvious I could change the hub, but that wouldn’t be as fun😉 Any advise would be greatly appreciated!
  3. I've got some quite mint 1990 KX 125 forks to put on my KDX 220, they are the gold outer 41 mm first gen usd forks and they arent very good as most people said in the day and know now...the question are does anyone know why they arent very good and what are the fixes...its a tough road for me, being used to woods valved snd sprung enzo a kit kybs. Thanks.
  4. Heyo! I thought i would take the time to ask the experts this which would be best to put on a custom build. Heres a little more info. The project bike is a Honda xr650l that is being built into a neo-retro scrambler. The plan for the front end is to convert to USD forks since the stock ones are trash and it wold give it more of a fresh look. Currently i own a pair of 2001 crf250 forks (showa 47mm) that i picked up for cheap. Right now there is a pair of 2013 yz250f KYB forks (and triple clamps) for sale near me. I dont know his price yet but it shouldnt be too much more than what i paid for the crf forks. Considering that with which ever fork i choose to go with they will have to be rebuilt, revalved and dropped by a professional shop, which for option would be the better choice? The project bike is mostly a city commuter with the occasional weekend trail riding. It shouldnt be going through anything too intense (except for driving on Montreal roads). Thanks in advance for any help! K
