  1. I am buying a used 2014 300xc from a local seller. I am looking for some advice on the initial maintenance that I should perform after picking it up. Background: His dad bought it new in 2014, selling it to him in 2016. He is selling it to upgrade to a 2017. The seller raced recreationally in some local enduros. The motor is untouched. Never rebuilt top or bottom. (seller said he guessed 70 hours, but I assume it's much more) It has a bent radiator (not leaking). New pipe. New Silencer. Says he just replaced the clutch pack, chain and sprockets. The bike looks heavily used, but for agreed upon price I am happy with it. What are the must do maintenance items I should perform before riding in the spring?
  2. Hey dudes! This is my first time posting on the site so hopefully Im in the right spot and everything. I've been a long time lurker on the site and have learned tons from it over the years and decided that I'd get more out of it if I posted a bit! First the question, then I'll give you the back story- I'm looking at a 1998 YZ125 on fb marketplace. The dude wants $1500 OBO and Im trying to determine if its a good deal. Heres his description: "1998 Yz125 fresh rebuild, Fmf Turbine Core 2 silencer, protaper perch and lever, Protaper grips, frame is powdercoated white, engine case powder coated blue, new seat cover. Cons needs carb re jetted, rear shock needs rebuilt, needs tires. Just dont have time to mess with anymore have other bikes to maintain." I reached out and asked him about the jetting. He sent me a vid and the bike just sounds like its idling low. My guess is it needs the carb cleaned, the jetting adjusted, or the idle screw adjusted. I asked him how the brakes were and he said they are decent but the front is a little squishy. I asked him to clarify the rebuild and he said he rebuilt the top and bottom end himself with Wiseco. I was thinking of offering him $1000 since it needs a bit of work and I'm guessing if it needs the aforementioned items then it probably also needs other things like rear linkage bearings and maybe more. I'm willing to do the necessary work but also want to flip it for a little profit. Definitely not interested in fixing it up and losing money though. What do you guys think? I'll post pictures of the bike The back story for those that are interested: I grew up riding dirt bikes and sold my '08 CRF250 a few years back when I started a home remodeling business. Ever since then I've regretted it. I have a 3 year old son that is ripping on an XR50 and I want nothing more than to be able to take him riding all over the place. My end goal is a CR250 or similar. My wife isn't super stoked about me spending $2-$3k on a bike so my plan is to work hard to find good deals on bikes and flip them until I've made enough to pay for (or at least mostly) a bike for me. I know- easier said than done, but I know I can do it and am willing to try. Overall I'd appreciate any advice you guys have but currently I want to see what you guys think about that YZ125. Im a Honda guy at heart so blue is uncharted territory for me. Thanks all, I look forward to your response.

First off, here’s my background, because it will give some context: Location: Northern Arizona Weight: 160lbs Height: 6’1” Riding Experience: 4 years on street bikes until this past Saturday where I test rode my coworkers upgraded 2001 XR650R and an old 100 that had a bore kit and some other upgrades. We rode out in the woods and did a small hill climb with no problem. I currently own a Suzuki 2004 GS500f So just to preface this, I know the XR650R is a beast and probably not a “good” starter bike, but I think I’m getting it for a really good deal and it would be a great bike to grow into. It would be a project bike for me and would eventually take it on adventure backpacking trips. He’s quoting me for $2550 for the XR650R with the following upgrades: -Uncorked engine -Oversized brakes -Aftermarket suspension (it’s quite stiff, it would need to be changed to fit my body type) -Upper triple clamp with stabilizer mounts (I’ll probably buy a Scott stabilizer to install as my first upgrade if I buy the bike) -Pro taper bars (1-1/8” taper) -Heavy duty hand guards -Aluminum skid plate -4 gallon desert tank with foam insert -Aftermarket seat (some more padding) -Custom headlight -Oversized foot pegs -Brake light (I’ll want this to get to it be street legal, plan on commuting to work with this a lot) -New front steering stem bearings -and more... I noticed when riding it that when turning the front fork it would sort of “catch” when crossing over the middle. He’s changing out the front bearings and I’m going to test ride it again this weekend. So here are my qualms and questions… If I go back this weekend and test ride it with the new bearings and it still has the catch, would a stabilizer almost certainly do the trick in smoothing it out? Am I really stupid for thinking this is a good deal? Am I really stupid for still wanting this beast (even if it is a good deal) as my first bike? Any suggestions is appreciated, thanks!
  6. I wrote a different question earlier trying to see what bike could suit me as a 140 pound 5'7 rider. I ride tight trails and usually use more of the bottom end low rpms. I always had a 230. But those bikes feel so luggy to me. Then switched to a 150 rb with a fly wheel (what was I thinking?). So now in considering the crf 250x. I know it's a tall heavy bike. But I plan to lower it and get used to the weight. I'm not much for two stroked. So what are your over all impressions of the 250x? (getting it used 09)
  7. Hi all, for the past year I have played with the idea of getting a 250 for honing MX. Though I’m not pursuing Loretta's, I would use this bike for getting into track work and weekend MX. I have about 3 grand set aside for the new (to me) bike. For reference, I grew up riding and wrenching my own bikes in my fathers footsteps. I have 14 years of riding experience, starting with fire roads as a kid and moved on to single track and tight trails as an adult. I am 5’ 7 inches and 155 lbs fully suited. I have some track experience, but I hesitate to call it “experience” as it is mainly tagging along with friends who ride MX. I’m an average rider but in no means an average MXer. I have a lot to learn in that department. Hopefully I can find the right tool for the job! What bikes, and years of production, would you recommend? Locally, I have a Honda/Suzuki dealer I’ve grown up with so I’ve always been a little partial to red and yellow. I’ve seen a handful of 2012-2014 RMZ 250s with low hours. The Honda’s I see are between 2010-2014 and seem a bit more expensive then the Suzuki’s, but still not unreasonable. Thanks
  8. Hey! New to forum and have quick question. I just started a 93 cr250 project and all the parts are original and some are a bit clapped out. The radiator needs to be replaced and I am wondering If the eBay radiators are worth it. Company names on ebay are, MSR Racing, Worley, GPI, and HR Racing etc. Are these radiators any good or am I stuck buying an expensive OEM unit? Should I buy a used OEM? No one really seems to make or carry them except the eBay stores. I also have a hard time trusting eBay purchases. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks -Peter
  9. Hello all, i just recently purchased my first dirk bike! I bought a 2007 KTM xcf-w, and boy does she run like a dream! Theres just one problem, i have a small oil leak. ive located where the leak is and i believe its just a gasket thats leaking and needs redone. However, there are wires running in where the leak is happening so i am maybe thinking the leak is caused by the wires allowing oil to seep by? I added a picture so maybe some of you mechanics out there can point me in the right direction. I am going to order a whole gasket kit for my bike unless someone thinks it could be something else entirely. Thanks in advance for your recommendations and your time!
  10. Found a 2014 ssr 125 for 300$. He says it starts right up and is only missing the clutch lever...what should I look out for when I'm inspectin or checking out the bike?
  11. Does anyone have a preference on where to buy a replacement CDI and Magneto? Most shops/warehouses are on back order through July from Yamaha, but I am looking to get them within the week. I tried Partzilla, but they are also out right now. Would it hurt to grab a used set off Ebay while I wait for OEM ones to be back in stock? I know used electrical parts may not work the longest, but I figured it would get me up and running. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

  13. Mods if possible don't pull this, I'm just posting here as well as classifieds because it seems classifieds don't get much traction now days. I'm looking to buy a spare wheelset for my 250X. Getting into racing and training more and trying to cover my bases. They don't have to be pretty , just looking for something straight, true, and 18" rear of course. Maybe you have oem take-offs after getting some shiny new excels? Let me know, thanks!
  14. Is the used market always this high in the summer time? I had a 2002 Honda 400ex and a 2003 Honda CRF150 that I’ve had for 3 years almost, and I just sold both of them in the last month because I just couldn’t refuse the price... I paid $1900 for the 400ex and $1300 for the CRF150 (they were both bought in the winter of 2017 and 2018). Sold the 400ex for $3200 and the CRF150 for $2300. Don’t get me wrong they were extremely clean machines for the year and I’ve always kept up on maintenance, but that still sounds like outrageously high prices for that old of a machine, but hey I’ll take it. But my question is does the market always inflate this high in the summer time or is this mostly caused from covid-19 and the stimulus money everybody was getting a few months back, and when does everybody think the market will drop back down? I’ve been keeping the money aside for a new bike but can’t get myself to spend what they are going for right now. Any input would be appreciated thanks! ( I am located in New Hampshire United States if that makes a difference)

So I bought a new to me 2000 cr250 a couple of days ago, ad said it needed a new top end, so when i picked it up the engine was out of it as well, so when I got to looking at it I noticed a bunch of weird marks on the top end of the piston and cylinder head. Would y’all guys steer me in the right direction on how to go about doing this rebuild? Should I just install a new piston and cylinder head (phathead kit) or should I send it off to Eric gorr for repair? Also should I just go ahead and do the bottom while I’m in there? Thanks in advance for all the help
