  1. Yes, I am asking what to buy, I’m sure there are a million other threads with a very similar question, but before bashing me for posting, please understand that although I am talking about the whole topic, I want to focus a large portion of this post on the expense of the two bikes, mostly the repair expense. Now that we’ve got that cleared up, I’m an intermediate rider, bought a brand new 2018 250XC last year and love the bike. I race hare scrambles, but lately I’ve been riding MX a lot and thinking about trying a new 4 stroke and getting something that will handle the track a bit better (suspension-wise). I’ve been told the 350’s are about as expensive as they get to repair when it comes to the engine, but I don’t truly know what the case is. Does anyone have some round-about numbers, any comparisons to the expense of the 450? Yes, I know the 450 costs a few hundred more up front, I don’t care about that, just looking at maintenance. Also, I’m worried that being used to the 250 2 stroke (and I ride with the red spring in, I like an aggressive feel) I will have a hard time getting used to a 350F, kind of like getting on a 250F where I feel like I’m pounding on the throttle to keep it moving. Is this anything to be worried about? In every other way I lean towards 350, being a 2 stroke guy, liking the lighter-weight, more nimble-feeling bikes.
  2. Whats up guys. I am wondering if I should upgrade my Drz400, or just sell ot and get a Wr450? Some background: I have a 2000 Drz400 (kickstart ONLY) that I street legaled. The updrades it needs are: > New clutch pack = ..?(want oem so prob. An arm&leg) > Clutch cable = 14.00 > Steel braided brake line = 43.00 > Rear caliper rebuild kit = 19.00 > Rear brake pads = 16.00 > Carb rebuild kit = 50.00 > Upgraded headlight = ..? (Any suggestions?) > Possibly sumo wheels $145.00 without the clutch pack, headlight, or wheels. I will also need to upgrade or refurb. the rear shock at some point. I am wondering if it is worth going all out with the Drz, or switching to a wr or yz? I like that my bike has the updraded cams and carb already and the reliability factor. I also like the weight and extra power of the wr/yz. I just don't know how long they will last before rebuild and general maintenance vs the Drz. So, what do y'all think? Thanks
  3. I've heard a lot of good and bad about both of these bikes. Mostly the weight problem though. What are your opinions? I have never owned a KTM before or even ridden one but I have ridden a few Suzuki's and aside from their weight they are very fun.
  4. Hey guys, Im looking to buy a new Yamaha 2 stroke within the next couple weeks but i cant decide whether i would be happier with the 2018 yz 250 or the 2018 yz250x. Heres my riding background. Ive been riding for 15 years, I raced in the A class for 5 years until money got tight and i gave up racing all together. Since i then I realized how much fun single track riding is and just free riding with the buddies. I still occasionally ride tracks but about 80% of my riding is trails. I live in Michigan and if you have ever ridden in Michigan then you know the trails can get as rough as a motocross track. My local trails have sand whoops that i would compare to REDD-BUUUDDDS sand whoops. Ive never owned a "trail" bike ive always taken my race bikes and made them into "trail" bikes. My last bike being a Yz125. That being said i know all the mechanical and technical differences between the 2 bikes. Im a bit worried that the 250x just wont have the racey feel when im riding. Im also worried then when i do take it to the track the suspension will be a bit soft and the mellow hitting powerband will not allow me to seat bounce the big whoops. But now the standard yz250 might not have enough low end to help me skate through wet black slick dirt and the suspension might be a little to "non responsive" per say in studder bumps. Can you guys give me any sort of guidance. If you would like to check out my riding style on YouTube check out : "Yz125 2 stroke Shredding Michigan Enduro Trails." Thanks Guys
  5. Hello, The question that I see alot of people asking all over the internet. some think one way others say the other, but what I get from it, It depends on what riding your doing and where. So I would like your opinion, would it be better for me to get a YZ125 or a CR125 im 5'7'' and somewhere around 120 to 130 pounds. Im going to be doing mostly woods and trail riding. I am also looking at other bikes but this is just between the CR and YZ 125. Thanks
  6. So i was about to get a crf250r until i went to the ktm dealership and checked out a 2017 ktm 250sxf. i just wanted to know what thoughts people had on these bikes. I have always ridden honda but would like to know more about the ktm. reliability, handling, resale, and any known problems .
  7. I drive a 150cc and am looking to move to a 250cc motocross bike. I only do trails and dirt roads but I'm looking for more power than the trail 250 bikes. I am 5'6 so seat height is a big factor as is price. I am looking to buy new.
  8. I drive a 150cc and am looking to move to a 250cc motocross bikr. I only do trails but I'm looking for more power than the trail 250 bikes. I am 5'6 so seat height is a big factor as is price. I am looking to buy new.
  9. Yo what’s up everyone! Looking for some advice on some simple mods to make my track monster some what tameable in the woods. It’s a 2013 sx-f 450 fe I am looking for simple mods to swap back and forth to make woods and enduro riding days a bit more enjoyable. she has 13-50 sprockets. Has anyone figured out the best sizes for the woods and light scrambles?? I feel if I go to a 52 it might make it worse? But also has anyone put 18” wheel on the rear would this make the 52 sprocket viable? My bro and I find ourselves in some pretty harry shit and Im finding myself more and more frustrated by how he can just cruise along and im out here whoopin and whippin, spinnnin out, over heating, like damn I need a seriously better enduro weapon for sure... But yah in the mean time I love my stormtrooper just looking to slightly kit it better at times for the light enduro. The problem is simple, 1st gear is long and throttle response is very high. One thing to note I set my idle up higher to combat flame out. When going up rocky sections 2nd gear just doesn’t cut it but soon as you drop to 1st the back tire will spin like mad! If I’m not on my clutch game, it’s whiskey time Being 145 lbs on a 450 when the throttle cracks... it’s no remorse what so ever! Lol good times Other mods I’ve read into are flywheel weights; I feel like it would help but I’m not sure, does anyone know if any companies make them for my specific model ktm. I feel like a trottle tamer is a must as well. And Has anyone done experimenting with Ecu remapping? Hope I can get into a better enduro unit someday but in the mean time I appreciate any feed back on taming the beast, cheers!
  10. I've been looking into both of these as new bikes lately since I came into a decent amount of money (so I'm looking at the 2017 models). Now, I know the primary difference between the two is that the XC-W has a wide ratio tranny. Since I can't find a ton of information on these bikes, I just have a few questions. I've heard the EXC is slow many times, is this true? I've also heard that due to its power, the XC-W isn't that great for trails. I usually ride on the street to get to the trails I ride and occasionally ride on small tracks, and I'd like to be able to go out to the dunes and possibly use it on a supermoto track, so I wouldn't mind a little extra power (this makes me lean towards the XC-W). But on the trails I think the XC-W may have too much power. But since I've been told the EXC is slow, I would rather have too much power on trails instead of too little. So which one of these bikes do you think is better? So far I'm leaning towards the XC-W.
