  1. I bought a used 2009 XC-W a few months ago. Things got a little fun and laid the bike down which damaged the mapping switch (PN K&S 12-0102). Ordered a Siccass replacement... and it doesn't match the carb jetting. Runs like crap. Looked up the K&S part and it's listed as a Kill Switch and not a map switch. I'm new to bikes and don't know the best path forward; order a K&S? Try and re-jet to match new switch (friend says it's beyond my skills right now) or take to shop and spend money I don't want to. Advice or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.
  2. ok so i bought the bike used and when i got the title from the previous owner it said ORV which stands for Off Road Vehicle and the miles says excempt. I have seen a dozen of these with plates in pa. i have contacted the dealership and they said if person buying it wants it to be off road vehicle then thats how they title it? soooo does that mean i can't put a tag on it??? how do i get the title changed because i know these bike are able to be on the street. 2015 300 xcw six days edition. btw im in york pa and bike was purchsed at cernics in johnstown pa

    Stink bug killer for PDS

Is there ANYONE out there on this forum who can give a good honest and experienced review of how well the Slavens Stink Bug Killer works on XC-W models? Stink Bug Killer: Slavens Racing I'm 6'2" 190lbs geared up and have no need for a lower seat height, however it's advertised to make the bike much more stable at speeds. Sounds pretty general... Will a stock bike with SBK handle whoops? I'd rather spend $40 than $900 getting suspension reworked (probably still will). I wanna know how much different the bike handles with a SBK installed. Thanks, all

    ktm 250 xc-w horsepower

hi is was lokking for a ktm 250 xcw for my son and i couldnt find any horsepower related articles and i was wondering if anyone new???
  5. Howdy, I'll start off saying that my question is actually regarding a 2012 Husaberg TE250 but since they have virtually the same engine, I figured there would be more KTM 250 XCW owners that have encountered this problem. I got home yesterday from a race and went to start the bike up via kick. But as I pushed the lever down I could hear the electric start gears turning. Nothing sounds like it is grinding, just gears that are turning that shouldn't be turning. Also, immediately after my race I went to start the bike with the electric start and it definitely took a few extra turns of the motor to get running. It sounded more 'slappy' and rattly than normal as I held the start button down, but I was wiped out by that point so I can't be completely sure of what I was actually hearing(nor do I wish to recreate the noises by testing the electric start). Additional info... I had the clutch basket(which is attached to the gear that is engaged by the kick start) and inner clutch cover removed about 2 weeks ago to replace the shift lever shaft. This process included removing the kick start lever and the gear on the clutch basket, but not much else of the kick mechanism. I know I'm gonna have to open it up again but I just want to get an idea of what I should be looking for once the covers are off. I appreciate any wisdom you can share! Hoosleberg
  6. couple months back on my way home from a 2 hour ride my bike lost compression and quit. lucky I was just by my driveway. pushed it back and immediately checked the spark plug and cylinder temps with a temp gun. all seamed fine. pulled reads and pipe. everything looked fine but no compression. pulled the head and found the top of the piston trashed from metal flying around. chunk went down beside the piston and scored the cylinder. bike had 59 hours and 2048km on it. pulled the motor and took it to the dealer for them to decide what happened. chunks of metal looks like bearing cage material but no play or evidence of anything wrong. the ktm tech found a bunch more chunks of metal in the bottom end but could not find out where It came from. ktm ended up paying for a new head, cylinder, piston, crankshaft and power valve along with all the associated gaskets, bearings and oil seals. total for parts was around 2900$ Cdn. I had to pay Labour as they couldn't find the source. Labour ended up being 730$ Cdn. motor is back and running great. I was happy with the result as it was 7 months out of warranty having never been back to the dealer with over 2000 km on it. here are pictures of the top end damage
  7. For the life of me, I cannot find any jetting charts for the 2010 KTM 530 xcw, why not? I purchased this used bike, bogs at low RPM. I'm at 2000 FT in AZ, the main is 175 jet, and idle 42 jet. Any advice?

So, I just picked up my new TPI on Friday. It's is dual sported and plated, but the stock exhaust is melting my rear right turn signal. Will changing to a different can like the FMF shorty fix this problem? On another note, bike takes 2-3 minutes to start even over 80 degrees out, but will be dropped off today at dealer hopefully for a fix. Thanks.

2003 KTM 200 EXC Clutch Issues

Hi everyone, I purchased a 2003 200 EXC a little while ago. The guy I bought it from said it has a rekluse clutch in it, but that is all I know about it. When I got it pulling in the clutch seemed to have no effect on the bike so I opened up the maser cylinder to find it nearly empty. Filled it from the bottom up and bled it with magura blood. Now when i'm driving in gear it functions normally but any time the bike is off or in neutral it is very hard to pull. The biggest problem is when I come to a stop even with the clutch in the bike stalls. It idles fine in neutral and can be put into first gear and idles fine but the problems happen when coming to a stop. I do not know where to go from here. Any help is appreciated, Thanks. Also considering just going back to a standard clutch, seems like it would be easier to trouble shoot and more reliable for the future?

    Ktm 300xcw for me?

So.... To begin with, I'm a 15 y/o, almost 16. I'm 5'7ish, and weigh around 135 pounds. I currently ride a ktm 105sx, bored to a 115, with a flywheel weight and trail gearing. Long story short, I'm bored out of my mind on it. It's quite peaky in low gears, and has no torque whatsoever past third - I mean it's gutless. The top speed is around 45mph, and I hit that quite frequently. I do all of my own maintenance, meaning I am very familiar with all of the bikes I buy. I want a bike that has a lot of torque without sacrificing that two stroke snappyness, and something that is streetable for short trips to school or nearby trails. I've been looking at a ktm 300xcw, and I would like some input on if that is the right choice for me. Thanks to anyone who responds! P.s. I mainly ride my own woods. Around 200 acres of trails ranging from open and straight to steep, narrow and windy.

    250XCW Fuel Leak Issues

Rookie dirt bike rider and just recently bought a 2012 KTM 250-XCW. It started leaking fuel when the gas was turned on. Rebuilt the carb... still same issue. The fuel is coming from the bottom of the bowl when the valve is turned on and the bike isn't running. Any help is appreciated!
  18. so i have been riding my cr 125 lately and have decided to finally get a new bike. I am going to get a ktm 250xc. My girlfriend and i only ride trails and she is on a crf150r. So last time we went out i had her ride my cr125. she loved it because of it being a full sized bike. and she now likes 2 strokes and would like to get a ktm 150xcw or a250 xcw. She is 5'5 so it is really hard for her to ride one unless we lower it. So i was hoping to get youre guys input on what bike she should go with. ARe the bikes easy to lower ? She is not the fastest rider so Would the 250 be better for more low end and lugging around ?
  19. Hi everyone, new to the forum seeking advice. I want to buy another bike. I've been riding a 2002 KTM 520 EXC and it's been a great bike but looking to upgrade to a newer 500 KTM or a 300 XCW. I ride mostly Northern California single track, double track, and occasionally fire roads. Having a plate is not a priority since I have a plated xr650. I'm 6'3'' and have always ridden big bore bikes, so bike weight hasn't been an issue....But I haven't ridden a 300 yet, and I hear they're awesome. Which model would you buy? Should I look at a Husky? If I buy used, what year range is best? Thanks!
  20. My Old/New 2008 KTM XCW 250. I knew I wanted a KTM.Knew one day I would have one, just didnt know which one.So I decided to let fate decide. So I placed a KTM sticker on the window of my truck and just knew one day I would come across what I was suppose to have,no matter the condition.I have my own A.C. business, and had a call to a Memphis radio personalities home one day.She sees the KTM sticker, says hey,my brother rides that kind and is selling one,my spidey sense kicks in,I say oh yeah? She says yepp,Ill call him to see if he has it,I know its on craigslist.I went to craigslist and there she was,in all her beaten down glory, good god all mighty, she was whooped on.I get it for $1200,knowing the suspension is shot, the E start, will not start, but she fires every time from the hip.I knew nothing about these xcw bikes,so I took her on home. I rode it for a few hours to feel her character then knew exactly what I would do.See,she was down on power and didnt like to get up and go,me weighing 220 didnt help out im sure.I had a challenge ahead of me.Here is what I did......I took it down to a pile of nothing and restored it Powdered the frame PPG white,The swing arm black, sub frame black. All parts are new,Factory KTM bearing in all areas,KTM wire harness,Rekluse Z Start Pro,Wiseco billet clutch basket,Lectron HV Carb,S3 Slavens High Compression head,SX CDI box,2011 model Translucent tank,Plastics including new airbox and 2017 front fender and plate,Moto Seat,Front Suspension by Zip Ty Racing with Gold anodizing of forks by Ty,Rear Nitro bladder and builld by KTM world,Chain and sprockets, wheels and tires, tubes, rear tail light,FMF fatty, power core,VForce 4 reeds.Lithium 130cca battery, all new updated 2016 xcw E start components,7602 racing clutch cover, ims pegs. All gaskets by Cometic.New starter and kill switch, new speedo lens. All nits and bolts are new factory ktm, even engine mount bolts.I know im leaving something out....I rebuilt this bike to how I envisioned it to perform with all the components combined, working together to enhance one another and it does perform. You can see black and orange, the day I got it home. Then the new, white frame and black powdered coated swing arm and sub frame. Then various money shots, but not all of the parts to the go fast puzzle. Finally the finished product. The condition of the bike is,the only things not being brand new would be the triple clamps, bottom end, rotors and radiators.Everything else is new.KTM world rebuilt the entire engine 75 hours ago per the receipts I have, which total over 2K.The bike runs so perfectly,it is just what I had in mind. Thanks for looking! Nate Davis

    2003 KTM 200 EXC Jetting

I recently bought a 2003 and tore the carb down just so I knew what it had for jetting. I found a 178 main, 48 pilot, and NOZG needle on 2nd clip from top. (Bike has totally stock exhaust and riding is about sea level). The 48 pilot caught my eye as I thought it should have been more like a 42 and was wondering if this is correct? Also what is the best needle to use and on what clip? Any help is appreciated, Thanks.

    2018 YZ250FX vs 2017 FX350/350XCF

Hey all. I’m a newbie here so let me know if I’m in the wrong place. I’ll get straight down to it. I’m in the market for a new bike and have been thinking about what’s going to be best for me for a long time. Until recently I finally came to the conclusion that a new YZ250FX is my best option. My last bike was 2015 Yz250f which I loved. Now just yesterday I saw a local dealer advertise left over 17’ FX350’s for almost the same price as the YZ. What appeals to me about the Husky is that extra grunt. What doesn’t appeal to me is the suspension and handling and the reliability of the machine. Now I’ve never owned a KTM or Husky so I am basing those two factors on word of mouth only. Like I said, I loved my Yz250f and felt very at home on it, it has probably been the best bike I’ve owned to date. Yamaha reliability is also second to none which adds to my peace of mind on purchasing the YZ. One thing I wish it had was more power though. Obviously it’s only a 250f so you can’t expect it to go like a 450 (not really interested in 450s). I ride mostly trails and the occasional day at the mx track. The trails I ride are gravel based, loose, rocky, single trail, and also wide, fast, flowing, sand trails which is where I think my yz250f really shined, and where I had the most fun. I’m only a small rider at 145lbs which is why I’ve steered away from 450s. I’ve read a few forums and others have said the ktm and Husky 350s are unbeatable on the trail which is why I am in this dilemma. So basically what I’m trying to decide on is if that extra power is worth compromising for the YZ suspension, handling and usability. Feel free to make any other suggestions, including other bikes as I was also considering the YZ250X 2T. Thanks guys
