  1. So to simplify this, I'm getting an XR100 like next weekend and I was looking for upgrade parts to make it competitive with a crf125, or just make it go faster 😏. Ive heard of many of the mods already but i have a very tight budget. Is there any other rejetting or other things I need to do after installing these? I'm thinking FMF header, atc200x carb, bbr120 kit, and modded air filter/ intake. (wanted a hotcam camshaft too but may be out of budget). I really only have about 350 to spend. I was also wondering if the cr80 throttle and cable are really needed for the atc200x catb. And the big question is if i buy these is there anything id have to buy to make them work or fit? nothing worse then brand new parts you cant use... also is this the 200x carb? http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/301891165034?chn=ps&dispItem=1
  2. I have a project XR100 I've had for a while and never got around to working on, but here I am now. I rode it for about an hour and noticed it was running too rich up top and too lean down low and would also shut off when it got hot. So, I changed the jets from a 38 pilot and 105 main to a 40 pilot and 100 main. Runs great when cold/warm, but still dies when hot. VALVE CLEARANCES duh!!!! In short, after rejetting this bike a few times to get the perfect mixture with my valves out of wack (did not know at the time), will I end up rejetting again once the valves are set to spec or should my new tune still be fine despite the change in valve clearance? Adjusting the valves this afternoon, and just want to be ready to take the carb back off if this ends up being a necessary concern.

Hey! so the throttle on my xr100 is sticking. like won't return. i was replacing back wheel bearings and had the bike up on a stand with the wheel off. i was trying to get the master link off the chain in accidentally hit the swingarm, pushing the bike off the stand and it fell on its left side on the garage floor. There was no visible damage suprisingly and nothing was damaged except the throttle. when the bars hit the ground it jammed the throttle tube into the entire mechanism. i know the issue is not with the carb because it will not spring back even in the free play. i took it apart and lubed the assembly and that helped a bit for only for a tiny bit. i was thinking just place the whole thing but thats like $30. any suggestions on where to get a new throttle tube for real cheap? or some other fix? Thanks!
  4. Finally getting around to finishing up this project this winter. The bike started as a 1982 Honda XL100S. It had already been stripped of all electronics and battery and did not run. Replaced points and carb and got it running only to find out clutch was smoked and some of the clutch cover screws already stripped. Ended up putting on a cheap ebay carb and it inhaled a loose screw off the choke plate (not peened over as it should've been) and chewed up the valves and seats. So I pulled it all apart and had the frame, tank, and various parts powder-coated black. Swapped front end from a 2000 XR100R and used tapered bearings. Alloy mini high bars, mini levers, Acerbis headlight. I rebuilt the engine as follows: KG Clutch Factory HD springs and kevlar plates (replaced all clutch cover bolts with stainless allen bolts) Honda TrailBikes 58mm cylinder with bungs for oil cooler BBR 58mm small dome piston (120cc displacement) ShiftUp Spartan big valve head (28mm intake/23mm exhaust) Kitaco Stage 1 hollow core cam Keihin PZ27 carb (23mm slide) (going to try a Mikuni) UNI pod filter Moose magnetic oil drain plug EMGO HD ignition coil/NGK boot and plug I've still got the stock pipe on it if I want to ride it on the trails but I know its choking back the big valve head. Looking at a low pipe from an XR75 possibly. I'm also waiting on an ATOM ignition module to bypass the points and let it rev better hopefully. I have old stock steel wheels on right now but I have a set of XL hubs and BBR aluminum rims I need to have laced. I made the entire trials/tracker style seat using fiberglass for the pan and heavy backed vinyl for the cover. I'm going for an old school simple and reliable small woods and trails bike. I will post more pics later today when I get home.
  5. Hey- was doing some work on my xr100 and dropped a socket between the engine and frame. it is in a tight spot and i cannot get it without removing the engine. Is it ok if i just leave it in there? will it break anything? thanks!
  6. Here is my XR100R build from a barely running and slightly crusty parts getter to a fully capable woods machine. I have a ATC200X carb with drilled out exhaust and intake, custom made lift links (I have posted about these before), Battery powered LED headlight for night riding. I am really happy with the way this bike turned out and I wanted to share it with you all. Let me know what you think. I have a picture of it sitting next to my YZ250F and my XR600R so you can see how it sits higher than a normal XR100. I will be taking it out riding the next couple weekends to torture test the lifting link and will take pictures and post more updates of how it goes. Thanks for all of you who have continued to show interest and support to this project, you guys made me fall in love with this little bike and its probably my favorite of my three now and has sparked more ideas for other modifications and even put some visions of creating a business making these components into my head. [I have also received requests for people wanting to purchase the lifting link, I am working on making a large batch of them and will keep everyone interested updated]
  7. Howdy. Got myself a CA-Plated '90 XR100R, which is awesome. Used as my little slam-pig. Fantastic bike. ANYHOW; Just raised the front end with some 03' CR85R forks, which was a swap from the 80's disc-brake 19' KX80 forks I used to have on there. (The KX front end wil lbe up for sale soon, btw) Just wanted to ask the best possible way to go about raising my rear suspension, and it seems like users have gone 3 ways; 1) Cut some 7/8 or 3/4 steel plate into spacers and use a longer bolt in the linkage to extend the travel. (Easiest) See Link (1) 2) 'Aussie Mod/Lift' the rear end by cutting and re-welding the linkage mounts higher on the bottom of the frame (Mid-Difficulty) (thank SoCalXR, et-al.) See Link (2) 3) Modify an existing swinger from some other bike, or even a whole new frame (CR85R? / KLX110? / SX65?) to fit, and then running linkless. (thanks SettinTrendz, et-al.) See Link (3) What do you reckon the best REAR END SUSPENSION LIFT OPTION for a play-bike/Minimoto? I'm 145lbs, 6ft tall. (ya, string bean) and before these mods, was riding the bike pretty much as hard as I could. I want something that'll hold up to the abuses of a full size human railing on it off road at the OHV or in the city. Thanks ya'll.

When the instructions said: "Occasionally on XR 80/100 models the rocker box may need ground to clear the cam lobes" (sic) I heard: "Get out the dremel, you will definitely need to grind some stuff" On the right side, I only had to grind down the "fin edge" part where the cam could hit on the front of the rocker box. On the left side, I had to do a little on the front and the back as well, I think including a bit of the rocker arm itself. I'm not saying get out the grinder immediately, your mileage may vary... but when putting them in, tighten the cam bolts like normal, hand tighten the cam sprocket bolts, then slowly turn the motor over. When you hear a click, and it doesn't want to turn any more, get out the flashlight, slowly turn the motor back and forth, to see which cam lobe is hitting and where; then back off, remove cam sprocket bolts, and put safety wire through one hole (you don't have to remove the sprocket from the chain that way). Then remove the rocker box like normal, loosening in the usual pattern. Take off, dremel what you think you need to, clean very well, put back, repeat. Always check timing, it's easy to be off a tooth. If you find the rocker box sometimes is "picky" about sitting totally flush, and all the shimmy-shaking you're doing doesn't seem to help it want to be "totally cool", and flat and proper... I found that sometimes those metal dowels are harder to put in one side than another. One side might slide into the rocker box easily, but not into the head very easily. So put that dowel into the trouble side first, while you have room to shimmy it in all by itself. Then when trying to press stuff together, it will be more easygoing in fitting the dowel in nicely. That's the big alignment woe you're experiencing, is those dowels wanting everything lined up perfectly, sometimes they get too picky on one side. Good luck!
  10. Hello. So ive always stalked this page but this is my first post. I recently just bought a 2002 xr100 and the thing is great. I wanted to beef up the suspension so i picked up and installed the BBR front springs and rear shock. Rear shock was a b**** to install myself but it got done. However, the front springs are were im finding an issue. Theu were easy to install, and i added 15w belray fork oil. The bbr springs were about an inch bigger and required some compression to close the fork cap. The front feels stiffer however, it now makes a loud CHUNK when going off jumps or bumps. I dont know much about the science about suspension but id assume The rebound is too fast? Ive looked into and ive heard different things, such as, changing the oil to 20w, (which i will do next) cuting some of the spring off and adding a pvc spacer. I plan to minimoto this xr100 and abuse this bike...but not willing to pay top dollar. What can i do? Does anyone have any idea? Thanks in advance.
  11. Hey guys, so I picked up a 97 xr100 to race mini gp. I can't seem to figure out a running issue though. Stock exhaust, stock air box, but with foam uni filter. New stock jets (90 main and 38 slow)and cleaned carb. Stock cdi. It starts after a bunch of kicks, but inconsistently. Choke has to be fully off though. Can't get it to work with it on. When it does start, it idols super high and even revs higher without any throttle input. Then it just dies weather I give it throttle or not. When I received it, it had a Chinese racing cdi and main jet was a 95. Same problems As mentioned, but black sooty plug. I did get it to run enough once like this, but if I opened the throttle past 1/4, it would stop accelerating, or just bog and almost die. Just happened once, and haven't got it close since swapping to stock. Waiting on a new intake manifold, as the one that came with it had tape on it. When I looked at it though, I couldn't find any cracks or holes. The gaskets on both sides were the make your own type. I tried to swap these out for some new o rings to see if that would make it any better, but no. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!!
  12. Hi all...sorry if this is a question that has come up in the past. I attempted to search through the forums but couldn't find an answer to my exact question. In the off season we picked up a ShiftUp Spartan big valve head for an xr/crf100. The plan is to put into our race bike that is currently running higher lift Megacycle camshaft. After looking at the ShiftUp head we noticed that the valve steams and springs are significantly smaller than what we are currently running the stock head. As a matter of fact when you look at the Megacycle catalog it specifically calls for using heaver springs. So the question is has anyone else had any experience running this head with anything other than the stock camshaft? If so what is the lift and duration of the camshaft you are running and have you run into any issues with valve float, or dropped valves? Thanks for the help.
  13. The bike has a BBR 120cc top end kit and I cannot get it to run right on the pilot circuit. When the throttle is wide open (main jet territory) it revs out well and runs fine. First off: Throttle needle is set to stock adjustment, 38 pilot jet, 105 main jet. I’ve tried a 40 pilot but it was waaay to rich and at even a 1/2 turn out, it would want to die when I came to a complete stop and would heavily bog when the throttle was snapped. However, the 38 seems to be of the other extreme. At 1/2 to 2 turns out, it will have a hang idle( extremely lean? ) From 2 to 4 turns out, it will have the same low end bog experienced with a 40 pilot. I’ve done the fuel screw adjustment procedure, and from 2 turns out to 4 turns out the idle doesn’t change at all, AKA I have been unable to find the sweet spot. I currently have it set at 3 turns out with a 38 pilot jet, but it still wants to bog on me on the low end. I’m scratching my head, any ideas?

  15. I have posted about this bike a few times already but I wanted to make one single post on all the modifications I am doing to it. I am attempting to do everything as cheap as possible without sacrificing preformance. Prices and links will be provided if possible. I am working on designing a new shorter main link to lift the rear end in the cheapest way possible. Carb, CDI and coil are all ordered and on their way. Pictures will be posted regularly as I check items off the list. Some info on the bike. I traded a non-running incomplete parts XR600R for this bike and got it in a non-running condition. After some cleaning and adjusting I finally got it running. I grew up with one of these so I am excited to have one again. After some looking around online I have discovered there is a huge following of modifying and even racing this seemingly tame bike. Most of the parts I will be installing arent performance parts but simply replacements for the OEM parts that are now 28 years old and cheap and easy to replace. As I am currently in college most updates and work on the bike will be done on weekends. Any DIY parts I make will be run through FEA testing to validate strength and viability and have 3D models and engineering drawings available for anyone else to use to reproduce them [in college for mechanical engineering]. Most of the parts are simple but I like to practice good engineering. I also have a '85 XR600R that I will be working on at the same time as well as my '06 YZ250F race bike so if something goes wrong with either of the bigger bikes this project may be put on hold for a while. Nevertheless, I will continue to update anyone interested in this project and am open to any suggestions or advice from any of you thumper experts.
  16. I have a 2003 XR100R that I purchased as a project bike. i did a complete rebuild on the bike and put it back together with no issues. Except when i brought it out for its first ride I could not find neutral, I was confused as to what the problem was so i would just use the clutch. Then i found out that to find neutral I would have to shift in between 2nd gear and 3rd gear to find neutral. Any ideas what the problem could be? I really don’t want to have to split the cases on the bike again so if there’s another solution I would love to hear

Honda part number 52180-GN1-000 is what i need help with.... hellp!
  18. So I just picked up a 1989 XR100R in awesome shape. I plan to use this as my pitbike/parts getter. I have done some looking around at cool mods people do to these bikes and the aussie lift has come up multiple times. I fully understand how the lift is done but I haven't seen anyone say how long it lasts or if it breaks eventually. Obviously the longevity of the lift mostly depends on the quality of the welds, but are there any inherent risks that come with doing this to the bike? I honestly just think it makes it look better and I also plan to put the front headlight and plate from an XR600R on it as well as a tool bag and a few other things, so my main goal is to make it look like a baby 600. I have had these bikes before and I love how they ride and how reliable they are, I'm just worried the aussie lift may cause me issues in the future. I do not plan to put different shocks on the bike and will not max out the rear lift as to not make the bike super squirrley or twitchy. Any insight would be appreciated and if anyone has documented the process of how they did their lift I would love to take a look! (For those who do not know what an Aussie lift is: It is essentially relocating the bottom shock link mount slightly higher [most say no more than 11mm] so that the bike sits higher in the rear) I will post pics of my bike as soon as I get a chance for those who would like to see.
  19. So i put a new crank in my 06 crf100 after it has been sitting for 2 or 3 years. Got it all together and it runs and idles fine and if i give it gas when its in neutral its fine but when i put it in gear and give gas it bogs down bad, it seems like it runs alittle better with coke but hard to tell. So i have cleaned the carb like 2 or 3 times and that didnt work so i rebuild the carb and i have played with the pilot screw in about every setting and still has a really bad bog. Hope someone knows what im explaining or has had the same problem. Thanks
  20. Hi, I have a 1996 XR100 which has a gas tank that I have had problems with ever since I got it. The petcock leaked really bad when I got it so I tried to take it off and the metal things used to hold the petcock bolts in the tank stripped. I have used jb weld, 100% silicone and some craft glue and nothing has worked.   22. Hi, does anyone know where I could get dual sport or supermoto tires for a crf80? I have looked absolutely everywhere and can't find them! Is it possible to put 100 wheels on an 80 without doing any extensive suspension work? I can find wheels for the 100 for days!
  23. Hi all, Honda XR100 2001 That iron stopper in the center for the form column which limits angle of handle bar has gone. Hope my photo I found on www will make it clear.. So I plan to weld another big nut in its place, do you think I can do this with all parts together, afraid to overheat bearings or any other parts that might be inside, or .. probably that could work with proper cooling... Actually can anybody help me and send photo how real stopper looks like, or there are 2 of them ? I try to see on youtube but it's not clear. Tx all for help. Dai
  24. We bought my 8-year-old son an '03 XR80R for Easter, and I've been working to get it dialed in. So far I've acquired an XR100 carb and air boot, and I ordered a Power Ring from Engines Only for the exhaust (I like the idea of this because I can tune the exhaust pressure by adding/removing plates to match the XR100 carb). I'm not sure how best to port the intake, I can port the XR80 intake pipe (the little flexible one) to match the XR100 carb, but that leaves very little material to mate with the seal. However, I don't really want to pull the head just to port the intake on the XR80 head, so I'm kind of in a dilemma here. For those that have upgraded an XR80 to an XR100 carb, how did you do the intake porting?

And, what do you want the new bike to do better? 2000 Honda xr100. Bought about a month ago as my first bike and am already bored. it has a really low seat height and it is totally gutless. I want more power and a taller seat height. No 4 stroke because i hate adjusting valves. was thinking of an 85 2t but i would grow out of it super quick 4.
