    unknown motor problem

I've recently been struggling trying to get my 1982 honda xr200r running again. I have tore most of the motor down and put it back in time. Everything seemed perfect until it wouldn't start. Of course you haven't lived till you try to kickstart one, so this is where i noticed a big problem... instead of kicking this bike over and over I decided to push start it. get a run and go on my concrete drive way and hop on and dump the clutch... nothing.. no, literally nothing. time and time again even had a friend pull me with a 4 wheeler once. the wheel locks up and will not turn the motor over. you can put the bike in gear and kick it over and the bike will move. but no matter if you take the spark plug out, and put it in a high gear(went through all of them) it will not turn the motor over. i have worked on alot of motors in my life and this has me going... huh? i hope i gave a good enough run down of what is going on for someone to help me.

    Restoring 1987 XR 200

Hi there I'm currently restoring my 1987 XR 200 wanting to know if XR 250 plastic body kit will fit or what model XR body kit will fit mine cheers
  3. Hi iv been looking at the forums for a few years and finally decided to make an account. I just took apart my 91 xr200r for the first time because of low compression (60-70psi) and i was scraping off the head gasket and some of it went into the stud/bolt holes. Im worried it will block the oil passage ways. Can anyone tell me how i should go about cleaning these out or can i just leave it as is (does not seem like a good idea). I also have some marks on the cam journals if that's the correct term and should i be worried about this. The surface is still smooth and i cant see it causing any friction. Any help or tips on reassembly or just any tips in general are greatly appreciated, thanks. Here is a diagram of the oil passageways i thought others might find help full .

  5. I recently bought 1988 xr200r forks to go on my 2002 xr200r (got them revalved for my weight and riding style), and I only bought the fork tubes. As I was trying to put them on l, I realized that they do not fit in the triple clamps of the ‘02 xr. What do I do? Please help!
  6. I got 2002 XR200R and I got ‘88 forks for it and they will not fit into the triple trees for they are too big. Do I need the triple trees off a ‘88 xr or is there something else going on with this. P.S. I’ve checked part numbers and everything is correct.

    1980 XR200 won’t start

Sooo I have a old 1980 Honda xr200 I got from my wife’s family. I’ve had it for a few years but it was at my parents for a while until we moved into a house. So I just got it back...I knew it was sitting for a while so I lightly cleaned the carb and got it running (not great, but running). It wouldn’t run choked. So I took the carburetor apart and cleaned the shit out of the pilot jet, it was clogged. I put the thing back together and now I can’t get the damn thing to even start. It has a brand new spark plug I just put in and just did an oil change. What could it be. This is my first bike and am learning as I go.

    Blown engine

I have a xr 200 r its ran like a champ for the past five years but started smoking about a year ago and burning oil ive heard there are tricks such as pouring coke or diesel down the heads and letting it soak in to help solve it smoking is there anything else or would this work thank you.
  10. I just picked up a 2001 xr200 that isnt running, just started taking the engine apart to inspect it,when i took my stator cover off oil poured out of it,im pretty sure its not suppose to be,but im not a mechanic, there doesnt appear to be any oil seal on the main bearing behind the crank.so im just not sure if its suppose to be that much oil in there or i have a gasket busted somwhere or what, thanks in advance

    XR100 Jetting

2003 XR100. Installed new FMF exhaust, new carb (OEM size) with 105 main and 40 pilot, and UNI pod filter. Started up first kick and will idle but won't rev up. I referenced the jetting chart on BBR website. Confirmed choke is off. Bike idles smooth and will rev if teisting the throttle slowly, but nothing if twisting the throttle fast. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance,

Help Diagnose Engine Noise - XR200

Hey guys - I have a bud with a XR200 that is having some engine noise that he cannot identify. I'm posting the vid for him in hopes that the forum braintrust can help get the right diagnosis. Notes: He has adjusted the valves and the cam chain tensioner. I have asked him to confirm that oil is getting to the top of the valve head. Hopefully he can reply to this thread with more information. @XRepublic Appreciate any and all input :-)

    Connecting rod

Hi All, Regarding Connecting rods, I see the XL185 Con rod big end width is 16 mm and has a 1 mm washer either side, totalling 18 mm. Can i use a XR200 Con rod be used which is 18 mm wide and uses no washers? Regards Mark
  14. I just bought a 2002 Honda XR200 that was hardly ridden at all and has lived most of its life in a storage locker. I already cleaned the carburetor and replaced some of the jets. I also replaced the air filter. I have checked to make sure the pep cock is clean, and even replaced the gasket that goes between the exhaust pipe and the engine. It starts up on the first kick, but when I turn the throttle more than 1/4 the way, it dies. Any ideas that you have would be appreciated. Thank you.

    Considering a 2002 Honda XR 200

I roll into the parking lot at work this week and there sits a 2002 Honda XR200. I have been a long time VFR pilot with limited trail riding experience. A couple years ago I refurbished a TTR-90 for my 10yo and have been looking for a trail bike for myself. As a Honda fan I am familiar with the XR but it is rare to find one like this that someone is willing to let go. Spoke to the owner, he is willing to sell for $1000. The front fork seals NEED to be replaced, and the rear shock is leaking significantly and requires repair or replacing. Due to this is a limited time offer, and I have limited knowledge in this realm... I am looking for insight and advice as to if this is a diamond in the rough or more trouble than it's worth. Any and all guidance, advice, and knowledge sharing will be greatly appreciated!
  17. I got a great deal on a 1997 XR200 and have it running and idling great. Now that I have it running good, I want to fix some of the aesthetics. The front drum needs to be adjusted but I want to go to a disc brake anyways. I am looking at CR125 front ends and I know this has been covered pretty well on here. I came across this picture of a 1997 XR200 on some website called "Dirtbike Rider Pictures" but I couldn't comment to ask them what mods they have made. This picture is not mine and I take no credit for it. I am only posting it on here because I would like to make similar mods on my bike to look like their bike. Does anybody know what kind of front end is on this bike? What kind of rear end? It almost looks like a CR85 or CR125 front and an XR250 rear? Any suggestions on what this looks like would be appreciated. And if the original poster of this photo sees it, please let me know what mods you made to your 1997 XR. Thanks.

    Finding Plastics for XR

Whats up guys! I just joined this forum though I've been using it for reference as I restore my 2002 XR200R. I finally, after months of building this bike finally got to putt around in the yard. It was literally a box of nuts and bolts. My next step is ordering all the plastics for her. I really want all red plastics with a blue seat, like the 84s. But so far I've found it impossible to find red side covers that have the seal for the airbox! Ive searched everywhere on the internet to no avail. If anyone could give me a step in the right direction it'd be much appreciated! Also here are some pics of the bike so far. Thanks, Blaine also, my kickstarter sometimes get stuck and only return about halfway, the return spring hasn't slipped and cases haven't been apart so i figured it can't be anything internal.
  20. So I am rebuilding my 1984 xr200r dirt bike, but it has an xl185 engine on it, which i have a 1984 xr200r engine which needs some work done, like new cam chain. I found out that the xr250 RFVC and xr200 RFVC in 1984 shared the same frame and I am putting the 250 engine in the bike however it is not running and I would rather not spend too much on parts, I found a guy selling a bunch of parts from an xl250 and I was wondering if I could use parts from that for the xr250 engine? Is there a big difference between the two? the xl and xr engines are both rfvc

    1990 xr 200r won't idle

What's up guys this is my first post on the forum so don't get too mad at me if it's not posted in the correct spot. I've got a 1990 Honda xr 200r I just got street legal. I cannot get it to idle to save my life. So far I've replaced the plug, the plug connector, the air filter. Totally new carb, new throttle assembly and cable. And I sat the valves at 002 and 003. Still no idle. Can anyone shed some light? I'm dying here haha.
  24. Hey guys, Just came across all of these old school slide shows. They take awhile to record and upload to youtube. But I'm trying to get the good ones done first. Full of info and fun to watch. This one is all off road models cr500r cr250r cr125r cr80r cr60r as well as xr200 xr250 and xl600r. Also there is a test at the end of part 2 so make sure you study hahah. part 1 part 2 I'm about to do another from 84 street bikes going to be fun enjoy!
  25. Looking for recommendations for a turnkey front fork modification. The stock forks are very marginal. I'm 68, 5'10 210# with riding equipment on. Ride hard but certainly not as fast as 30 years ago. I want to ship them off and have a pro set them up. Does anyone know whether a swap with an XR200 forks is a bolt on? Advice appreciated. Thanks David
