New to the forum, and to dirt bikes in general, though I’ve got wrenching experience elsewhere. My son (11) saved his money and bought a ‘01 xr80r with a seized engine and clutch. Looks to have been stored in a wet place for a while. Clutch freed up ok and seems functional with some wire brush treatment. Surprisingly, the rust seems limited to the clutch pack; 1 clutch spring (will be replaced as a set), cylinder/piston and some surficial rust on the crank weights. I’ve had both sides open, but haven’t split the case and don’t intend to unless necessary. Once the piston was freed, the everything seems to spin freely. Nothing I could think of or read about here helped us free the engine, so we finally pulled it and beat the piston out of the cylinder. What are our options? Local machine shop isn’t bike specific and wants $80 for a bore job. Honda dealer doesn’t do machine work on bikes this old. I’m reading about a coating (Nikisil?) that may eliminate that solution, but possibly not on the XR80? Can this be sleeved? Bored? Honed? New Cylinder? Thanks for the advice. My son really wants to handle as much of the work as possible so it remains “his” bike, so the lower cost solutions are preferable. I won’t let him try and run it with a sketchy solution however, since I know those can be more expensive and dangerous in the end. I hope to get it running really well and know he’ll keep up with the regular maintenance. I’ll intervene financially if necessary.

Seen a bunch of old posts about graphics for the XR80, but they all seem outdated. All the companies making modern graphics that I've found don't make 80 kits. Looking for a new graphics kit since I rebuilt the bike for my buddy's kiddos. 1998 xr80r

I have a 2001 Honda XR80r that I'm getting together for my nephew that has been nothing but problems. I've heard it start, but run only briefly and now it wont even pop. I have a new ignition system, spark plug, carb, tank, and it has a blue spark. I have no clue what's causing it. I thought it might be the magnet of the flywheel because it was chipped and not too magnetic. Replaced it with another and still nothing. It kicks over OK and I heard it run before and it sounded decent, just shut off after a while which prompted me to get a new carb. I had to kick it like crazy to get it spinning so it would start then, which is why I thought it might be the flywheel magnet. This is beyond frustrating and I'm beginning to think the little bastard is cursed or something. Might take it down to the stealership for diagnosis because I'm at my wits end. Is there anything I'm missing that would keep it from running? The carb is new, I timed it out and the valves are set OK. Any help is appreciated.

New to the forum guys and I'm looking for some information on my daughters 1985 XR80R. I bought a new carb and throttle cable for this bike once installed the bike started up and ran wide open. I tried adjusting the position on the needle valve, adjusting the fuel air mix, and the idle screw none of these made any difference in the idle of the bike. I'm at a loss
