  1. Fellow big bore brothers, I have uncorked my XR650L with Dave's Carb Mod, popped the top snorkel on my air box, Free Flow filter, and finally wore out my stock Bridgestone TW knobby trash tires and put on Mitas E07 front and rears. I am now searching for an exhaust kit that compliments the bike aesthetically, gives it a good bark at idle and highway speeds, and still delivers good power. I have been considering XR's Only header and slip-on but haven't heard to seen too many reviews for it... but like the price I have also considered FMF since I was never disappointed on my 2 strokes or my previous CRF450X... My ears and mind are open to suggestions... what is everyone using? I am budget conscience but more so concerned of getting a kit that may need re-jetting due to the existing Dave's Mod. Thanks -Risty
  2. Hi Guys I was on XR's Only website last night, and see that they have updated the looks of the muffler for their exhaust system. Looks much better than the old one. http://www.xrsonly.com/xrs-only-exhaust-pipe-honda-xr400r-stainless-steel-cone-tip http://www.xrsonly.com/xrs-only-exhaust-header-honda-xr400r So I'm just wondering if anyone has experience with their full system? It will be for a 440 setup. They say the header is larger, but also say the muffler can connect to stock headers?? Sooooo, Power?....Quality?...Noisy or not? Thanks 🙂
  3. Hey guys! Been awhile since I posted. I'm looking for a good reliable shop in the So. Cal. area. My local Honda shop closed a year a go and I need to find a shop. I have a few issues that I do not want to deal with and I want some suspension work done. I'm "close" to Al Baker's XR's Only but are they still a good shop to do work? I heard of a shop called Exceptional Suspension Products (ESP Suspension) how are they? Any other shops in So. Cal. that you all would refer me to? I'm willing to drive from Bakersfield to the LA basin and even into San Bernardino / Riverside area. Thanks!
  4. Can anyone explain to me why the mid-pipe on certain XR600R/XR650L exhausts gets substantially bigger before attaching to the muffler? In most cases it is actually the same size as the muffler where it attaches. The XR's only mufflers are a great example of this and so is my White Brothers E series muffler. On the other hand you have the more traditional mid-pipe shape from companies like FMF for the same XR600R. The midpipe is relatively the same size from the header to the muffler connection. Even high performance street bikes use this approach so why is it different with the big single? I've been looking at replacing my White Brothers muffler lately because it doesn't have the discs nor the backing plate to make it USFS approved. I've been back and forth between the FMF Powercore 4 and the xr's only mufflers. I was wondering if the odd mid-pipe shape helps the XR's only mufflers flow better. From what I've read the XR's only mufflers are stupid loud and that would warrant a quiet insert for me and thus choking the high flow muffler, right? Also, for anyone wondering- the White Brothers header that was installed on my XR600R is VERY CLOSE to the same dimensions as an XR's only header at both the cylinder and mid-pipe connection.
  5. Hello All, I put together a 1985 Honda XL600R engine that was done previously by an amateur, too mistakes had to be corrected. The seller of this bike said that he had head work done by XRs Only, installed a Wiseco Piston and a hotter cam. The exact manufacturer and model of the cam are not known. I am sure that he bought it from XRs Only. I did not see a cam on their website for this particular bike. They only cam they have is for 1988 and up XR600Rs, I am assuming that's the one that he got for the bike. I put the engine back together to factory specs, however I used the unknown hot cam. The bike is hard starting, when it does start up it, the idle is erratic and constantly fluctuating. Adjusting the fuel mixture screw on the carburetor has not effect on the engine speed. While kicking starting it, I noticed that the sounds coming from the intake and exhaust do not sound normal. There's like popping sounds coming from the air box. I also placed my hand over the muffler's opening while kicking it over many times. I noticed that I feel it "Sucking" briefly and then blowing later on. While on my 1987 XL600R with a XR600R motor only blows from the exhaust when I do the same procedure. This is quite discerning. Again, I only rebuilt and repaired this engine as it was presented to me. I do not my heart set on keeping this cam, I only want this bike to be easy to start and run good. As stands now, it is not doing none of that and has an unknown variable to me. I do have a stock cam and other top end parts from another engine. I am considering pulling out that unknown cam and install the stock one in its place. That way I would have something that is more known and I can do the cam timing to the Honda factory specs. I managed to find the attached image of the top-end with the cam installed. I hope this image can help someone identify this cam. At this point, I am not sure if I want to proceed with continuing to use this cam. I would appreciate any insights or guidance to see if my thoughts regarding the unknown cam is the source of my issues. Also going back to "Stock" is my best course in this situation.
