  1. Hey guys I just bought a 07 yz125 with a EG 144 kit. it's set to run on straight race fuel and that can be quite expensive when ripping a lot so I was wondering if I could buy a new cylinder head or something to lower the compression so I could run it on standard pump gas. I was looking at a athena cylinder head because they make 144 kits so I was thinking I could buy a 144 athena cylinder head but I'm not sure if thatll fit my cylinder or work correctly with EGs 144 kit. Thank you guys
  2. I'm going through my bike before the season starts to make sure everything is up to snuff and pulled a needle out of the carb that has no markings on it at all. The needle is gold/brass in color. A 450 main is in there as well. It's a 2005 YZ125 with EG 144 in it. I bought it last year and it ran fine but ive never owned a 125 or 144 before so maybe it was down on power I have no idea. It didnt seem like it though. Does stock Yamaha needles not have any markings on them or should I just be safe and order the stock needle so I know for sure? EDIT.. OK.. as far as I have been able to find out.. the 6CHY5-80 is the stock needle for a 2005 YZ125 in Canada. In the spare carb parts the previous owner gave me there is this needle but it's silver. I wish I knew what this unmarked brass coloured one was.
  3. So I want to share a solution I discovered today for what seems to be a somewhat common issue. First a little background, I ride a 2007 YZ144 set up for the woods and I had recently started to develop some slack in the rear end, so I had a buddy help me look and sure enough it was moving in the linkage. So I just received my new bearings and went to press out all the old bearings today. Using all-thread, some thick washers, and some nuts I was able to press out all the bearings in the linkage reasonably quickly (once I figured out to use a smaller socket so I wasn't hitting the shoulder). But then I ran into a dead-end.. the connecting link, dog bone, wish bone etc. has a shoulder, or raised sleeve, between the two bearings preventing you from pushing them both out one side. Now from my understanding this isn't the case on every bike, some bikes don't have a shoulder and the bearings in the connecting link can both be pressed out one side but my service manual clearly showed a shoulder. After some searching nobody really had a great method for removing these bearings except for buying a blind bearing puller. So I bought a cheap blind bearing puller from Harbor Freight but this did not work for me, it was slightly too large. So back to the drawing board.. then I discovered this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4YRA3nhzXX0 Essentially, these races can be hammered out from the opposite side using a concrete expansion anchor that cost $2.69 at my local Ace Hardware Store. The one I found and used was slightly different from the one shown in the above video but there are many different styles that would probably work. Mine was luckily just the right length where I didn't need to use all thread or anything. Just slide it through to the race on the opposite side and expand it once inside (remove the needles before hand by the way). Once I had it in there and expanded, a few solid hammer blows (with wood underneath) and it came right out. See below for pictures of how it works. I've seen the question asked on these forums several times with no solution other than "buy a blind bearing puller" so hopefully this helps some people out.
  4. Just got back from my second day of jetting my EG 144. Started with stock needle in middle, 37.5 pilot (40 stock) and 420 main (400 stock) = ran like crap and unrideable. So far I've ended up at 40 pilot, 460 main needle in the middle = pulls like a damn freight train and that's with the 1 tooth large counter sprocket. I got rid of any bogging in the needle which was the big struggle to jet out (the pilot and main were really affecting it) but there is still more work to be done with the pilot and needle relationship. To be honest judging by the plug colour after some WOT runs the bike could easily run a 470-480 main which surprises me, hell even the 460 surprised me but there was a slight bog at around 75% throttle so I went richer from a 450 to a 460 and man it pulled so much harder. Starting at 420 I'm very lucky I didnt melt my piston. Anyone else with a EG 144 experience having to go that rich on the jetting?
  5. hey fellas, got an 05 yz125 that’s a massive pain in my ass at the moment 🤦‍♂️ haha. Anyways long story short i’ve had to replace the athena 144 cylinder and cylinder head with oem standard bore ones, before i fork out the 400+ AUD for oem pv’s, can i use the athena valves in the oem cylinder? i know the radius and therefore arc of the valves will be different to stock, but will i be able to machine them to fit? or better yet do any of you blokes based in aus have some left over ones from going to a big bore kit that i could purchase? thanks in advance
  6. We riding mid November and had to be pulled out of the woods! Coolant made it into cylinder and piston crack (144 kit). Eric Gorr covered all work related under warranty even though piston was close to a year old-stand up guy! Got cylinder back and was getting ready to assemble top end. Check for play in rod and noticed the rod and crank journal have turned blue. Don’t notice any up and down movement on rod but it has 32 hard hours and has definitely seen some heat!! Bottom end kit is a hot rods. Should I replace bottom end or run until I get play in rod? Check out the pics! Merry Christmas
  7. I have a yz 125 bored out to a 144 and I’m wondering what my powervalve clearance should be set to, the same as stock or more?
  8. Hey I'm 14 and am looking to buy a new quad/bike. I am selling my yz85 currently I'll tell you what bikes I have owned/ rode crf50-xr80-yz144-yz85 kfx50-yamaha blaster-raptor80 and I've riden Polaris 500's and they seem pretty sweet . The riding near my house is, a bog, single track, power lines, mud and sand. I feel like a atv would be better for mud and the rooty trails but I love the 75+ mph speed from bike and being able to jump/throw them around. Some bikes/ quad I've been looking at, keep in mind I have about 1500-2000 crf250x all brand 250f's raptor 700 400ex 300ex another blaster? Please help me with suggestions. I'm 120 and 5'5 and I feel comfortable on a 250f I've riden a few. Thanks
  9. i have a 2003 yz 125 big bore the piston is chipped and the jug is pretty rough. i was wondering what would be the cheapest route to fix it considering ive got a lot of money in this bike already
  10. I have a 2005 YZ144eg. A couple years ago I went with a higher compression head and the bike definitely signs off faster on the top end but has noticeable more mid range power which iIlove. Im looking to make some changes to the bike to be more mid-range and come on sooner, complimenting the current power band more. And before you say it - I have 250 2S. I realize the small bore bikes were designed to be screamers but I have been thinking of the following set of changes. I thinking of trying a 125X cdi box and a new pipe so maybe the PC RV pipe as its supposed to be more mid range. Anybody got any experience changing from a 125CDI to a 125X CDI? I so, what are your findings? I ride more GNCC style and love how nimble the bike is. Any input is much appreciated.

Starting at 420 I'm very lucky I didnt melt my piston. A stock 400 would have made the bike completely shut off past 70% throttle. So much for these 144's liking to be jetted leaner.. for me at least. Anyone else with a EG 144 experience having to go that rich on the jetting?
