  1. Hey anyone know if the YZ450FX is road registrable and or able to be made road worthy. I don’t really see a problem if it has all the indicators, lights, and maybe the spark arrestor. I live in Australia, Queensland. I want to have the yz fx for off road but I also want to ride it on the road.
  2. does anyone have any idea what the stock settings on the 2017 450fx may have been? i got my bike dialed in for the woods and changed it for mx but completely forgot to write down the settings. i know i had only turned the clickers in 2 clicks tighter than stock. i don't know it theres really a stock setting or if they are just turned wherever. thanks for any help guys.
  3. I've tried a few different maps but they all seem to react the same. Is there a way to tune out the initial hit of the throttle from 0 degrees to say 5 degrees? I'm looking for a smoother throttle hit for slow speed rock crawling and technical sections. Currently it seems like the throttle is on or off and I don't have the ability to roll it on as well as I do on other bikes. Maybe I'm overthinking this and just need to adjust the throttle cable? I know I can get aftermarket throttle cams but I'd like to avoid that if possible. Any advice is appreciated, thanks in advance!
  4. HELP! Bought a GYTR fan for my 2019 YZ450FX. It runs so much that it runs down the battery until I can't start the bike. Is there any way to map the bike so the fan will come on at a hotter temp? It seems to run way too much. Dealer doesn't know shit. You'd think being that it is a GYTR product it would be fine. Had the same one on my 2016FX and didn't have a single problem.
  5. Hi guys, long time reader, first time poster. Basically need some input from you guys. Trying to decide between a YZ450FX or a YZ250FX. I'm 37, 230 lbs, 6', fairly muscular. Could drop maybe 15 pounds but not more without dropping muscle mass. I'm in the gym 4 times a week. Rode a 125 2t for a year in my teens and tried several road bikes in my twenties but nothing long term. Downhill mountain biked my whole life. Wife OK'd a bike for Christmas so I'm facing a dilemma. Do I get the 450 and grow into it or the 250? Getting both would not be looked upon kindly lol. Looking to ride a variety of stuff (Vancouver, Canada), gravel roads, back-country exploring, some trail possibly track as I get better. Lots of steep terrain but nothing crazy. My two kids just started on their Honda 50's so most of my toy money will be going towards their gear etc as they grow. Basically I'm looking at getting a single bike and keeping it. Thanks for your input
  6. I have a 2019 yz450fx and I have had it for about a year and half already. Bike runs great and is awesome but my one big problem is the electric start. I have a hard time starting the bike in gear. Which doesn’t seem that bad but I do a lot of single track riding and when I’m stuck on a steep hill climb and can’t exactly put it in neutral to start it, it becomes hell to start and I can’t find a kickstarter for it. The 250fx model has it but not the 450fx model. Anyone have any ideas on how to get my bike to start in gear? Or if there is a kickstarter for the bike?
  7. Hey dudes! Im a long time reader of thumper, but never posted or had a tag. But it's about that time...ya know, when you're SOL and freakin out a bit with your brand spankin new bike blown apart lol So anyways, I have a brand new 18 yz450FX and I'm street legaling it with supermoto wheels and such. I'll keep the dirt wheels also, for those none street days. I was under the impression the FX had the same wiring harness as the WR, but now I feel dumb for thinking that. I ordered the stock headlight and taillight for the WR, and am lost on how to get the taillight to hook up and the headlight. I'm looking for that WR stock look with the FX attitude. Can y'all point me in the right direction to get these things hooked up?? Thanks! Pics are appreciated, as I've combed all the plugs and nothings popping out to me as correct, and I'm beyond frustrated. Thanks!
  8. Does anyone know if there is any differences between the 2 radiators? Will the yz450fx radiator bolt on a yz450f? What I am wanting to do is wire up a fan to my 2016 yz450f. I know how I am going to do it I just don’t want to use a “universal” fan kit. What I would like to do is get a 450fx radiator and the direct bolt on Trail Tech fan for that radiator to have a good clean look.
  9. All, Looking for feedback or reviews from riders on the new YZ450FX. Does anyone have one? How do you like it? How good is the reverse YZ engine? I have heard complaints about the gas tank and air filter access but not sure that is that big of a deal for me. What is the consensus on these bikes? Can they compete with a KTM?
  10. Hi guys, i watched what Dave Simon from ktmhusky youtube site did to the Yamaha YZ250FX fuel injector to improve low rpm response, cure the lean out issue, and stop flame outs and stalling at low rpm. Very interesting I thought, so i pulled my 16 YZ450FX apart and checked out the fuel rail and i's exactly the same. It has a sharp as 90 degree bend right on top of the injector and another sharp as 90 bend about 4 inches upstream. Not cool at all. I have done what Dave did by getting an engineer to make a new straight shot injector top, but I had a 8mm tail with a barb made on mine so That I can use a bit of 8mm fuel injection line to push onto it and use a hose clamp to secure it. Dave made his so he still clips onto the stock 90 degree fuel fitting. I have made mine better than that to get the best possible fuel flow. I found 8mm steel fuel line on an old wreck of a car I have, a z32 300ZX with almost the perfect bends for the job. So, the injector now has a stainless steel top made with a straight up 8mm tail with a barb. The steel fuel line joins there and it goes up and then curls over like an upside down U-shape with nice curved bends (no restrictions). It then turns 90 degrees nicely and goes towards the right side of the bike. From there it curves nicely 90 degrees again and goes towards back of bike with a barb on it joining it to the stock rubber fuel injection line that goes to the tank. There's about 40 or 50mm clearance between top of injector and the bottom of the airbox, so just enough room to do it. My steel fuel line under the airbox is almost touching, but apart from that, it's an awesome install and i love it. My YZ450FX never stalls now! I was lucky enough to find the right shape fuel line, bending it slightly to make it perfect. Apart from finding a steel line off a car, I'm not sure if an Engineer could fabricate an 8mm steel line to do the job. Because it's a fairly tight upside down U shape that goes to the injector, rubber and braided lines likely won't be suitable. Dave Simon from ktmhusky is onto something big with fixing four-stroke fuel systems. The stalling and flameouts that I experience with my YZ450FX aren't something we have to live with. It wasn't bad, but now it's just perfect in the woods. This is a cheap and awesome mod!
  11. I've noticed that my throttle on my 16' YZ450FX takes a lot more to twist verses my prior KTM or some of my other buddies bikes. When I was at the National last year, Corey McDonald felt it was fairly tight too. He suggested I clean it and see if that helps. I did and it's still tight. Not ridiculously tight, but enough to cause fatigue during a hare scramble (I know... I know, I sound like a wuss! haha). Almost like the return spring is too tight. Is there a fix for this? Anyone else have this issue?
  12. My bike has 8.9 hours on it and has only seen desert hard pack , I just put a full FMF 4.1 system on , radiator braces, skid plate, Yamaha cooling fan kit , factory Yamaha tuner ,and some other protective bolt on gear . After all the product install I fired it up and i now noticed the coolant pissing out the over flow hose Immediately while idling warming up “WTF” this makes no sense! Bike is damm near band new is the this a bad radiator cap ???? There is no way it’s a blown head gasket and I did nothing with the cooling system fluid no flush no nothing! So I ask any of you that have had this issue or heard of this issue happing with any new YZ or WR riders. I’m balfuled with what’s wrong P.S. I put a tune on the bike and then removed the tune after seeing this problem and no change. @Jeff @ FPS Racing
  13. I got a new 17 Yz450fx - my very first brand new dirt bike and I definitely want to set this up for desert / single track and I want many expensive parts for this bike but one I know I can save money on fab up myself and wire in is a good LED light bar maybe two. It just don't know if anyone has had experience with the FX model and lighting for this bike - and maybe some experience with the small light bars and pods that work with the stator output on bikes .
  14. Looking for the exact dimensions for the P3 Carbon Heat Shields. I want to make my own and can't find a whole lot of details on their site or RMATVMC, Motosport... Thanks! I believe they're all the same for 14-19 Yamaha big bikes.
  15. what should i consider before buying a used recluse clutch !? in https://rekluse.com/ you can find the product which is suitable for your bike model and then looked for the same model used one !? i have found a second hand rekluse clutch ( z-start pro ) which has been used on a 2009 suzuki rmz450 . what should i check before buying and installing it on my bike (2011 yz450f) . is it just ok to take it out from another bike and do the clutch spring adjustment and use it on my bike !? Or they are designed specifically for each manufacture !? ?
  16. i want to replace the oil plug washer in the next oil change , what is the washer size for YZ450F !?
  17. Hello all, I currently have a 2016 drz400s and have done all of the necessary mods to make it perform the best. I love the capability of a dual sport but I find that I want something a little lighter and more powerful. I do have a truck to haul a dirt bike so no need to ride to the trails, that being said it would be nice to make my next bike street legal if I wanted to (short commutes, no longer then 10 miles with a 50 mph max speed limit, I also have supermoto wheels/tires). I live in AZ, my average pace on the trails is between 15-30 mph. Never got the drz over 65mph on the trails. My rides last between 1 and 4 hours usually max 60 miles. I'm looking at the yz250fx or the yz450fx. I am 6'1 and 220 before riding gear. I've read through the forums and watched all of the reviews on Youtube about both bikes, however I am still looking for answers. How is the fuel range on the yz450fx? I believe the yz250fx varies between 50 and 70 miles depending on how hard you ride. Me being a bigger guy will I want the yz450fx? Coming from a drz400 which mine has around 35 hp after my mods will the yz250fx feel the same power wise or will I want something more? I keep hearing the 450 will be a handful but I'm wondering if that is something I can get used to and learn.. plus with the mapping can I temporarily detune it? The only thing that tires me out on the drz is having to pick up up if I drop it. Both the yz250fx and 450fx are considerably lighter. Also what is the life of the engine? I have 1500 miles on the drz, not sure what that is in hours. How many miles/ hours for oil changes? Based on the information above I need help deciding which one. Thanks!
  18. I know for 2016 yamaha done minor change in the engine department , so basically the 2016-17 engine is different that 2014-2015 ( although its minor) , some change in chassis department as and triple clamp offset 22mm to 25mm. 1. which version of their engine they are using on FX !? 2. triple clamp is 22mm or 25mm !? 2.which version of chassis and engine they will use from 2019 (will they use new 2018YZ as the base ? )?.
