Actual weight difference....AF vs SF

I weighed my new 2005 aluminum frame and it came out to be 18.4lbs. After stripping the steel frame down, it weighed in at 24.2lbs for a weight savings of 5.8lbs. I had read a 4.4 lb difference so I gained weight savings over what was listed.

Not sure if anyone cared but I always wondered what the actual weight savings was.

Thanks for the info, its always nice to know. I wonder how much more ridgid the aluminum frame is. You will have to give us a comparison on what differences you feel. Good job on all the work and have fun with it.

Looks like a good project Josh. Wow 4.4 lbs. that is alot I would have guessed much less. Are you going to use the 03' or 05' pipe? When you get done be sure to give us a ride report. I'm wondering if you'll notice any difference in the vibration transffered to the rider?

It was a 5.8lb difference. 4.4lbs was Yamaha's listed weight savings for the new frame. I'll be using a 2005 HGS exhaust first. If I don't like it, I'll go back to my 2003 PC pipe.

5.8 even better, I must be dyslexic.? Will the 03' pipe fit around the aluminum frame or does it require putting a dent in it?

Not sure. I bent my pipe around the steel one so I don't think it will work until I get it fixed. I have the 05 exhaust coming in the mail.

Josh, are you doing anything with the paperwork on the machine? I wonder how it is to register with a new frame? Obviously, registering it is no probem, but how about a sale?

I only know the 250 changes, which are few. No modification has been needed as of yet.
